Bobbi Brown Violet Plum Long-Wear Cream Shadow Stick
Bobbi Brown Violet Plum Long-Wear Cream Bark Stick ($28.00 for 0.05 oz.) is described as a “deep shimmer eggplant.” It’s a dark, shimmering plum with red undertones and subtle plum, red, and violet shimmer. Bobbi Brown Black Violet is a touch less red-toned but otherwise is very comparable. Urban Decay Tornado is a powder eyeshadow, and it’s a bit purpler. I was surprised not to find more similar shades.
It has semi-opaque color coverage, but I was not able to build up the color to get fully opaque color, and compared to the other shades, the pigmentation in a single stroke was noticeably sheerer. The color applied evenly, which is important, because uneven, sheer color is something that can look off even from a distance. I did experience some very light creasing after eight hours, though it did not seem to worsen too much more when I checked at the ten-hour mark. The consistency was creamy enough that it glided on and didn’t pull at the lid, and it didn’t take too long or too little time to set.

Of the shades released, Vanilla is best-suited for a (mostly) universal base for your favorite eyeshadows. On lighter lids, it can also work simply to brighten. It has a very creamy finish, and it goes on with opaque color coverage without needing to build up the color. The texture is lightly creamy; enough creaminess to help it glide on without pulling or tugging on the lid but not so much that it creases. It does set a bit faster than other shades, so work quickly if you want to blend out the edges or blend it with other shades. Even after ten hours, the color remained opaque and crease-free (and it’s rated to last for eight).

Sand Dune will work well as a more neutral base as well as a brightening lid color (depending on your skin tone). It tends to give my natural lid a more even, warmer look without being too drastically different from the skin tone (and I have a medium complexion with warm undertones). The consistency is creamy and glides on well over the lid without pulling or tugging, and the color deposits evenly and with opaque color. Though still creamy, it was just slightly drier compared to some of the other shades. It dried down fast enough not to gather into the creases but gave me enough time to blend and work it into the lid. It wore well for a full eight hours, though I went as far as ten hours and still didn’t have problems with creasing or fading.

The consistency is creamy and glides on beautifully, evenly, and smoothly with full color coverage. It is blendable and remains blendable just long enough to work but not so long that it has a chance to gather into the creases before you’ve finished. I did have a problem with this one tending to fade along the edges after eight hours, and it wasn’t a problem I experienced with any of the other shades. It was such a bummer, because the color payoff was fantastic, texture was creamy and blendable, and no creasing–but fading is still frustrating!

Shadow has a delightfully creamy consistency that makes applying it very easy and quick; it’s blendable, opaque, and covers evenly. However, that creaminess does have a price–it takes a bit longer to dry down, and it is prone to very faint creasing while it is drying down. I recommend lightly blending the product about 5-10 seconds after applying, which helps to minimize/eliminate any creasing while it is drying down. When worn, Shadow lasted for seven hours well, but there was faint creasing after seven and a half hours.
The longer dry-down time means it is prone to creasing before you've even left your vanity, so it does require some extra time/patience to ensure it looks even and crease-free.

The new Long-Wear Cream Shadow Sticks are supposed to wear for eight hours, have good color payoff, and a glide-on consistency. Golden Pink has a fantastic texture and feel; it’s creamy enough to apply evenly and with full color coverage without tugging or pulling on the lid, but it stays put and doesn’t crease while you wait for it to dry down. It sets quickly, but you have enough time to blend and smooth out any edges if you wear it as an eyeshadow or alone. The lighter color gives it added versatility, as it can be used as an eyeshadow base to add warmth and increase vibrancy of other eyeshadows. Golden Pink wore a full eight hours on me with no creasing, fading, or smudging; it was still in very good shape after ten hours.
