This shade goes on very sheerly, and it was difficult to build up the intensity. If you take a ton of product, you can get opaque color, but applying and smoothing it out on the lid ends up in as a rather patchy result. The best method that worked for me was to apply one layer, wait about 15-30 seconds, then apply a second, wait another 15-30 seconds, and apply a thrid, and possibly a fouth, layer. The problem with that method was there was some faint but noticeable creasing after six hours. When I used a sheer layer, there was very minor creasing–after eight hours, though. Blue Moon had a soft, creamy texture that blended easily so long as you went for a sheer application.
It's buildable, but the more layering you do, the more it compromises the wear--a sheer layer has minor creasing after eight hours while more opaque color had more noticeable creasing after six hours. As a base color, it works better and didn't crease.

The texture of Smoky Topaz isn’t as smooth as some of the other recently released shades, because it has more of a sparkle finish, which means the finish comes out more metallic, more frosted. It can be sheered down quite a bit, so it can look like a delicate dusting of sparkle without a whole lot of color once you blend out the color (I like fingertips or a fluffy brush for this). It’s really pretty when layered, as that is when the purply taupe hue becomes noticeable. Smoky Topaz had a wetter texture, more slip, compared to the other shades, too.

When I tested Smoky Topaz, it wore for about seven hours without creasing but there was some fading after eight hours and a few flecks of fallout, without a primer. With a primer, it was a little better, but there was still a touch of fading after eight hours.
This is a more unique shade, and I think the finish of this gives those of us who loathe fall out but love sparkle something to be excited over. There were just a few sparkles underneath my eye after eight hours, but the color was mostly intact.

Bobbi Brown Cool Lilac Long-Wear Cream Shadow ($24.00 for 0.12 oz.) is described as a “cool shimmer pink lilac.” The color is a cool-toned, lavender-tinted pink with lilac and gold shimmer. Make Up For Ever #151 is a little lighter, less pink. MAC Boy Crazy is less shimmery. Dolce & Gabbana Jewels is a little softer. This color is really lovely as a wash, because it brightens without drawing too much attention to the eyes.

I like applying the initial color with a firm, flat brush and then blending with a fluffier eye brush or fingertips (particularly if you’re going for a wash of color). I had a little trouble building up the color to be opaque and even–it was mostly opaque, but it looked a bit patchy up-close. Cool Lilac is thin, lightly creamy, and dries down within fifteen seconds. Once it sets, you’re good to go–it stays on the lid for a full eight hours without creasing. There is some noticeable fading along the edges when I wore it without a primer, but with a primer, the fading is almost imperceptible.
This color is really lovely as a wash, because it brightens without drawing too much attention to the eyes. It's long-wearing, quick to apply, and should be flattering across skin tones.

The texture of Black Violet was a little stiffer than other shades I’ve tried from this range–not that it doesn’t have some creaminess, it’s just a little thin and less creamy. I had some trouble building up the color payoff; it didn’t want to get more than semi-opaque when I tried it on the lid. I still had good wear when I tried this alone; eight hours with no creasing and some fading around the edges when used without a primer, and then very similar results over a primer, just a smidgen less fading.

Bobbi Brown Berry Noir Long-Wear Cream Shadow ($24.00 for 0.12 oz.) is described as a “brown shimmer berry.” It’s a burgundy-shimmered plum with red undertones. When it’s sheered out, it has a redder, browner look, and the plummy tones disappear. If you apply more color or build up the intensity, you’ll see it turns more purple. There were a surprising number of cream-based products like this that were very similar in color! NARS Calabria is comparable to the more opaque swatch. Maybelline Pomegranate Punk is slightly redder. Make Up For Ever #17 is a smidgen lighter. MAC Rich Core is similar but a powder formula. Chanel Eclosion is more intense. Make Up For Ever #311 is a bit darker.

I prefer blending it out with fingertips or a fluffy brush, but initial application works well with her Cream Shadow Brush, which is just a flat, firm brush. It takes 15-20 seconds to set in place, and once it dries down, it doesn’t budge. I don’t have any creasing and only very, very minor fading issues after eight hours when I’ve worn it over bare lids (and over a primer works the same!).
If you like dark plums, berries, or wines, you might like this shade. Because it does have stronger red undertones, it can sometimes make the eye look bruised, depending on your undertones and how sheer/opaque the application.
