Bobbi Brown Pastel High Shimmer Lipgloss
Bobbi Brown Pastel High Shimmer Lipgloss

Bobbi Brown Pastel High Shimmer Lipgloss ($23.00 for 0.24 fl. oz.) is described as a “soft pink with pink pearl.” It’s exactly as described: it’s a light, sheer pink with neutral undertones with lots of pink shimmer. There are a few silver and gold sparkles there as well, but it seems to reflect mostly the cool pink sparkles. MAC Superflash! is a bit similar though more opaque and has chunky flakes of glitter. YSL Golden Peony has more gold shimmer.

It’s one of the sheerer shades within the range, so it amplifies any natural pink hues in your lip color, but it’s not opaque nor will it add a lot of noticeable color. It has pink gold, and silver sparkle in it, though pink dominates. It can be worn alone without settling into lip lines, and it does make my lips look pinker overall. It can also be used to layer over your favorite lipstick to add glossiness and sparkle without altering the color much. Fans of sheer shades will like this, and those who prefer more opaque shades will be less enamored–I’m in the latter group, so I only need a few sheer glosses.

The High Shimmer Lipgloss formula is a favorite for me. I think at this very moment I have two or three shades in my purse (though I was testing them), but I haven’t bothered to take them out because I’ve been reaching for them even if it’s just to wear after lunch and through coffee (it’s about an hour and a half period where I don’t bother testing lip color, since most products will just transfer onto food/cups). It’s moisturizing, glossy, sparkly, longer-wearing (Pastel wore three and a half hours), and the sparkle doesn’t travel. This formula is non-sticky, not too thick or too thin in texture, and mint-scented.

It's not unique by any means, because it's so sheer. It's not my favorite within the range, as many of the other shades have a lot more shimmer/sparkle! The effect is less pronounced here, though it still catches light exceptionally well.

Bobbi Brown Bellini High Shimmer Lipgloss
Bobbi Brown Bellini High Shimmer Lipgloss

Bobbi Brown Bellini High Shimmer Lipgloss ($23.00 for 0.24 fl. oz.) is described as a “nude pink with pearl.” It’s a light-medium yellow-toned pink with pink and silver sparkle. MAC On a Holiday is similar with less sparkle. YSL Golden Peony is similar but has gold shimmer. There are a lot of sheer glosses to choose from–they just have varying degrees of shimmer!

It intensifies the natural pink tones in lips but doesn’t add a ton of color; it does add a lot of sparkle. This shade is semi-sheer, but if you have more pigmented lips, it’s going to seem rather sheer on you and just deposit some sparkle. Bellini definitely does not have nearly as much shimmer as some of the other shades in the range, so that may be good or bad depending on your needs. I’m always reaching for one of these glosses when I’m not testing something else, because they add a lot of dazzle and glimmer. The sparkle doesn’t feel gritty, and it doesn’t travel. When I tested Bellini, it wore for three hours, and my lips felt hydrated both during and after I wore it. This formula is non-sticky, not too thick or too thin in texture, and mint-scented.

Bobbi Brown Beach High Shimmer Lipgloss
Bobbi Brown Beach High Shimmer Lipgloss

Bobbi Brown Beach High Shimmer Lipgloss ($23.00 for 0.24 fl. oz.) is described as a “pink bronze with pearl.” It’s a rosy brown with pink and gold shimmer. At a glance, it reminded me of Bobbi Brown Canary, which is sheer with a ton of gold sparkle (but no pink). MAC Fancy Cat is darker, browner. MAC Spree is very similar but has a more metallic sheen.

Bobbi Brown’s High Shimmer Lipgloss is well-put–it’s ridiculously shimmery and sparkly. Beach is semi-opaque; the color darkens my natural lip color and adds a fine dusting of shimmer along with larger pink and gold sparkle.  It has a lightweight, comfortable feel on the lips with a non-sticky consistency and is mint-scented.  I love that it never feels gritty, not when you initially apply it nor when it fades away (after about four hours), and it doesn’t travel.  The formula is also moisturizing with just enough thickness that it glides and applies evenly.

This is a great grab-and-go gloss, because it's neutral without being too dark or too pale. There's enough color to significantly tint your lips, but it's not too bold or bright. If you love shimmer and sparkle, this is worth checking out!

Bobbi Brown Midnight Violet High Shimmer Lipgloss
Bobbi Brown Midnight Violet High Shimmer Lipgloss

Bobbi Brown Midnight Violet High Shimmer Lipgloss ($23.00 for 0.24 fl. oz.) is described as a “black orchid with pearl.” It’s a dark brown-red with burgundy, copper, and violet shimmer. MAC Lasting Achievement is redder, more burgundy. MAC Lap of Luxury is more plum. MAC Black Tea is browner, lighter. NYX Vixen is very close, though a little more metallic. MAC RIchly Revered is less brown and doesn’t have shimmer. Illamasqua Hermetic is more metallic, more opaque, and a little browner.

This applies much better than Plum Gold, which is a color I totally love, but it doesn’t apply as evenly. For such a dark gloss that’s not opaque, it really does apply rather evenly. It has semi-opaque color–there’s still some translucency where my natural lip color peeks through, but it adds significant color to my lips. This is a gloss range that seems to go anywhere from ultra sheer to more opaque, and Midnight Violet is on the more opaque end of the spectrum.

What makes this gloss a standout for me is the high shimmer aspect; it’s ultra glossy but so sparkling, dazzling, and gorgeous on. I love that you don’t feel the shimmer; it never feels gritty, and it doesn’t travel while you wear it. The formula is lightweight, moisturizing, and wears well–this particular shade stayed on for five hours. Like other Bobbi Brown glosses, the High Shimmer Lipglosses are scented with mint but have no taste. They’re also non-sticky and come with a tapered doe-foot applicator.

If you're looking for a brown-based red gloss that yields a fair amount of color but doesn't go on too unevenly, you may find Bobbi Brown's Midnight Violet a good option. It can also work well as a layering shade over a deeper brown, burgundy, or berry lipstick.

Bobbi Brown Canary High Shimmer Lipgloss
Bobbi Brown Canary High Shimmer Lipgloss

Bobbi Brown Canary High Shimmer Lipgloss ($23.00 for 0.24 fl. oz.) is described as a “pure gold with gold pearl.” I’d like to call it sparkling lipgloss gone absolutely, positively insane. This is quite possibly one of the most shimmering, glittering, glimmering, dazzling, so on and so forth glosses I’ve ever used. The base color is really a pale gold that yields little color, but it’s full of yellow gold, molten gold, and copper shimmer, so it brings the coverage up to semi-sheer to semi-opaque. The overall effect is very shimmery, metallic, and it gives lips a browner look. Though it appears “sheer,” there is a marked difference between my bare lips and this on.

MAC Straight to the Head is very brown, there’s no real gold in it. Make Up for Ever M6 is bronze and the shimmer is finer. NARS LusteR is such a tame, tame version–it looks so flat in comparison. MAC Gold Dust is a bit better, but it still doesn’t catch the light as well.  This is a shade that looks fine on its own, but it will be the perfect way to add glossiness and warmth to your favorite lipstick (try it over a red).

I’m a big fan of Bobbi Brown’s High Shimmer Lipgloss formula–it has an amazing high gloss shine that’s ridiculously glossy, shimmery, and all-around dazzling. If you’re a fan of Chanel Glossimers or MAC Dazzleglasses, you really should check out this formula, because (and in my opinion only, of course) these are even better. The formula is lightweight, comfortable to wear, glide on easily but never slip around, and wear for four to five hours–and the best part? The shimmer never feels gritty and doesn’t travel. When I wore Canary earlier this week for a wear test, it wore for four hours. These are mint-scented, taste-free, and non-sticky. It’s moisturizing, though it won’t replace your lip balm.

Bobbi Brown Naked Plum High Shimmer Lipgloss
Bobbi Brown Naked Plum High Shimmer Lipgloss

Bobbi Brown Naked Plum High Shimmer Lipgloss ($23.00 for 0.24 fl. oz.) is described as a “rosy brown with pink pearl.” It’s a pale pink-mauve and gold shimmered rosy plum hued gloss with tons of sparkle and high gloss shine. This one looks phenomenal when worn, because it delivers mostly opaque color coverage. NARS Oasis is sheerer and less plum. Dior Mauve Accent is pinker. MAC Quick Change is a little less plum and has more copper shimmer.

Bobbi Brown’s newest lipgloss is ultra shiny with a really high gloss finish that wears really well–four hours, even with lighter shades–and feels comfortable on, because it’s non-sticky and moisturizing. The sparkling shimmer isn’t gritty, so it doesn’t feel rough when the glossiness fades, and the shimmer doesn’t travel to your eyebrows either (hey, it happens with some glosses; how, I have no idea!).

I seriously look forward to testing out new shades of the High Shimmer Lipgloss formula, because I think the texture/feel is phenomenal. It's slick without being slippery and just feels plush and comfortable to wear.
