The Best of the Best, Volume #003

How are you doing this Friday morning? I hope you’ve all had a good week! The weekend’s just around the bend, and I’m excited to get a few days to relax–even it’s only a lil’ bit! I think I just might spend it reading some books I’ve been putting off. How are you spending your weekend?

  • Ask Temptalia Session #016 is, I suppose, kind of a no brainer, since it practically begs you to leave comments :P As always, even if you come in late, I do answer any and all questions I get (that goes for *all* posts, actually), but I may not be as timely as when I run the session.
  • Best Red Lipstick as given by you!  Lots of great shades mentioned…
  • Stila All Doll’d Up Eyeshadow Palette Review was not only a popular most, but it was one that inspired quite a bit of commentary!
  • How do you groom your brows? – we asked, you answered!
  • All About Makeup Remover Wipes was a rant & rave session where many of you told us your favorite (and least favorite) brands of makeup remover wipes, but also what you loved/hates about the product itself.

The Best of the Best, Volume #002

This week has definitely been a better one than last–the boy is definitely on the mend (chest pains), and Magellan is limping a lot less. My weekend (which starts today–yay!) plans include mostly catching up on comments (sorry I am so behind! argh!), working on reviews, and generally all that is beauty. (So shocking!) What are you doing for the long weekend? I hope everyone has an awesome holiday weekend! :)

  • What makeup is in your purse right now?: Some of you are carrying makeup bags within your purses, others have products rolling around (that’s more my style!) the bottom… and others are finding lost treasure in those cavernous bags!
  • What was the last beauty product you finished?: a surprising amount of you have finished beauty products fairly recently — very nice!
  • The Hit List: Worst Brush Brand: seemed like Bare Escentuals may have made it to the top of the hit list in this week’s edition, but several other brands like Coastal Scents and Posh made appearances, too.
  • Rant & Rave: Perfume: You loved it, you hated it, and some of you didn’t have time for it…
  • Survey Says: this week’s edition was all about what you loved and hated about makeup and how you first got into it.

The Best Dior Products

The Best of the Best:  Dior

Dior excels at creating (even when you thought you had it covered) staples that you’ll use time and time again. Many of my favorite products to use on a daily basis are dior. Dior can be colorful and bright, but they’re more often subtle and natural–not boring, mind you.

  • Dior Diorskin Shimmer Stars ($43.00) are quite possibly my favorite product by Dior, period. These are subtle highlighters that work well on all skin tones and give that “glowy” appearance without overloading the skin with shimmer. They’re natural and bring out the skin’s own glow. Really, really phenomenal. You can just see how many looks I’ve done with Amber Diamond and Rose Diamond alone.
  • Dior Addict 1.7 oz Eau de Parfum Spray ($72.00) was one of my first fragrances, and it is still one of my more coveted scents. It is a heady scent that works extremely well for evening and formal occasions.
  • Dior Diorskin Nude ($45.00) is a water-based, lightweight light-to-medium coverage foundation that gives skin a flawless and healthy look. You can read my full review for even more reasons why it rocks my world.
  • Dior ‘One Color Extreme’ Eyeshadow ($27.50) are highly pigmented single doses of eyeshadow. Dior is actually coming out with several new shades this fall/winter, so look for them! For now, you can check out the two that came out with the fall collection.
  • Dior Addict Ultra-Gloss Reflect ($25.50) are non-sticky, hydrating lipglosses with a beautiful glossy finish. They come in a variety of shades, and they’re one of Dior’s signature products.
  • Dior 2-Colour Eyeshadow ($35.00) are richly pigmented eyeshadow duos. They’re not quite at the level of the Extreme eyeshadows, but they’re coordinated shades that are worth the investment if it’s in your budget.
  • Dior Bronze Harmony Blush ($42.00) is on the level of Skin Shimmers. Soft, subtle color that looks natural and truly enhances the skin in a way that’s beautiful. Check out my review for Rose Brazilia and Coral Riviera.

The Best of the Best, Volume #001

Ahh, thank goodness it’s Friday! It’s been a super busy week for me as my boyfriend’s been sick for the past four or five days, so I’ve been playing nursemaid for him. Plus, Magellan decided it was a good time to limp around the house, too, so I’ve been tending to him this past week as well. (For the record, the boyfriend is–hopefully–on the mend, and Magellan’s limp is less noticeable now.)  Boy, I am so ready for the week to end–bring on the weekend!  I’m hoping my weekend involves plenty o’ sleep and R&R, what about you?

  • MAC DSquared Collection Product Photos really seemed to inspire some lemmings (and some of you who are way too good at resisting!) for this October-slated launch.
  • MAC DSquared Collection Preview Photos were our first lil’ peek into the world of MAC & DSquared. It was just a morsel, but it just made us hungry for more.
  • MAC Style Black Collection with photos! Finally, we see how things are shaping up for this September collection. With new dazzleglasses and brand-new product greasepaints, many of you are eager for this collection to launch. Not to mention? Temptalia readers are totally going to sell out Volcanic Ash Exfoliator. Let’s do it! (Just let me buy my ten backups, k?)
  • Bobbi Brown Chrome Collection is the much anticipated holiday collection. It seemed like the overall feeling was positive, most of you liking the splash of color Bobbi added to her holiday palette. I’m curious about that silvery lipstick myself!
  • MAC Makeup Art Cosmetics Collection: All About the Eyeshadows seemed to be popular amongst readers this week, coming in fifth place. It must be all those bright shades, yeah?

Benefit is the Girly Cure to Your Makeup & Skin Woes

Have you ever tried the ever-feminine Benefit Cosmetics line? Really? Never, you say? Let us fill you in on some of the best products they have to offer. But between you and me, we definitely suggest starting out with their amazing Velvet Eyeshadows, followed by their Creaseless Eyeshadows.

Hint:  Click the links for reviews (if there’s no link, we haven’t reviewed it explicitly on the blog yet).

  • Creaseless Cream Eyeshadows ($19.00) come in twelve shades, and they often put out limited edition ones as part of their seasonal collections. These are easy to wear, last all day, and can be worn alone or under other eyeshadows as a base.
  • CORALista Blush ($28.00) is a value-sized coral blusher that’s absolutely divine on warmer skin tones, but it isn’t so warm or so coral that it doesn’t work on cooler or paler skin tones, too. (I love how many of Benefit’s products work for a variety of skin tones.) This is a summer staple for me.
  • Gilded Eyeliner ($20.00) is a quick and dirty way to pop open those peepers and make those eyes look alive, even when you’re operating on little to no sleep. A pearly, golden-yellow works well on the lower water line and inner tear duct to brighten up your eyes.
  • Full-Finish Lipsticks ($18.00) came back with a vengeance last fall (in 2008) and is available in fourteen shades. These lipsticks are creamy, pigmented, and moisturizing while giving you great wear. One of my favorite lipstick formulas!
  • One Hot Minute ($30.00) is an all-over loose powder that makes your entire face look brighter and more awake with just a light dusting. It gives a soft, luminous sheen that’s not disco-ball glittery.
  • Benetint ($28.00) is just one of those cult products that you either adore or you don’t understand the buzz. It’s a great multi-tasking product that you can keep in your makeup bag for any spontaneous occasion. You can use it to add color to cheeks or lips, and one little bottle goes quite a long way. It’s soft and natural–the two must-haves of any cheek/lip stain.
  • Velvet Eyeshadow ($18.00) is easily one of the best eyeshadow formulations on the market. Velvety, silky, and smooth describe the finish of these lovelies. Pigmented and true-to-color bring it all home. The only downside? There are only ten shades! I adore, ADORE Bikini Line.

DiorShow Black Out Mascaraicon ($24.00) is not quite “coveted” by Temptalia, but it is the improved version of the famous DiorShow mascara.  I will say that both DiorShow and DiorShow Black Out do give you longer, thicker looking lashes and both are pretty dark black.  The only reason these aren’t coveted by me is because they flaked and smudged on me personally!

Shimmer Star Pressed Powdericon ($42.00) is my favorite highlighter of all time.  I really can’t recommend this product enough!  It gives such a subtle sheen to cheeks that’s so natural and beautifully glowy.  It is available in both Amber and Rose (and it was available in Copper, but that was a limited edition shade!).  I’m getting Rose the next time I’m at Nordstrom (which hopefully will have it!).

5-Colour Eyeshadow Quintsicon ($54.00) are a signature Dior product.  They have several permanent varieties available, as well as several limited edition quints that come out as part of their seasonal launches.  I have tried and played with several, and I’m always impressed with how smooth and luxe the shadows feel.  I’ve only encountered one quint that just didn’t work well on its own (Earth Tones)–otherwise I adore them.  I particularly love the Twilight Quint for holiday.

Addict Eau de Parfum ($68.00) is my go-to perfume for something sultry and sexy.  It’s a heady scent with a lot of spicy vanilla and sandalwood in it.  I’m terrible at describing scents, I swear; but this is worth spritzing the next time you’re in the fragrance department.
