Makeup & Beauty Tips on How to Avoid Clumpy Mascara

Share your best tips and tricks for avoiding clumpy mascara!  Feel free to share your experiences, how you mastered techniques, or what you struggle with.

Temptalia’s Tips

  1. Don’t wait too long between coats of mascara; I always find as it dries down, the more prone it is to clumping up.
  2. If you see clumping occur, try to comb through lashes and remove the clumps while wet.
  3. Use a metal lash comb to help separate lashes at the end.

Temptalia’s Tips

  1. If you regularly use hand creams/lotions, make sure to wash hands prior to applying, as the moisturizer on the nail can interfere with application.
  2. Roll the bottle, don’t shake, to avoid bubbling.
  3. Apply one coat that’s not too thin or too thick, and then let it dry before applying the second coat.

Makeup & Beauty Tips on How to Avoid Caky/Powdery Foundation

Share your best tips and tricks for avoiding powdery or caky-looking foundation!  Feel free to share your experiences, how you mastered techniques, or what you struggle with.

Temptalia’s Tips

  1. If it’s a liquid, I love spritzing a bit of water on my brush before applying, because it helps to smooth out the foundation, spread it more evenly, and it ensures it doesn’t go on too heavily (except where I need it).
  2. At the end of application (of everything!), lightly mist face with water (or a setting spray), which will help take down any excess powderiness.
  3. Use a buffing brush to really work the product on the skin and blend it out.

Thanks to Lauren for today’s topic!

Temptalia’s Tips

  1. Always, always keep your glasses handy and regularly put them on/off while you’re applying your makeup, because this helps give you a better idea of how it will work with your glasses.
  2. Curl lashes to help open up eyes and keep your mascara-wearing lashes away from your lenses.
  3. Keep eyebrows well-shaped and filled-in, and use eyeliner to help frame and define the eye area.

Makeup & Beauty Tips on How to Layer Lip Products

Share your best tips and tricks for layering lip products!  Feel free to share your first experiences, how you’ve grown, what you’ve learned, and what, ultimately, you found most helpful in learning how to layer lip products.  (And if you haven’t conquered it, hopefully some of these tips will help you get there!)

Temptalia’s Tips

  1. Invest in at least a lip brush OR a few disposable lipgloss applicators–you don’t want your sheer beige gloss to turn pink because you applied it over red lipstick once!
  2. More opaque glosses will have more of a color impact when layered over a lipstick, so if you don’t want to change the base color a lot, opt for something with less color, more shimmer/gloss.  If you want more change, then choose something with a stronger color base.
  3. A little gloss on the center of the lip can act to highlight and make lips appear larger/fuller

Makeup & Beauty Tips on How to Keep Your Lips Healthy

Share your best tips and tricks for keeping your lips healthy!  Feel free to share your experiences, how you’ve grown, what you’ve learned, and what, ultimately, you found most helpful in learning how to keep your lips healthy.  (And if you haven’t conquered it, hopefully some of these tips will help you get there!)

Temptalia’s Tips

  1. Great lip balm goes a long way!  Lip balm will help hydrate and keep your lips hydrated throughout the day and night.
  2. Stay hydrated in general! Lots of water. (This is something I struggle with!)
  3. Exfoliate lips periodically with either a lip scrub, warm washcloth, or toothbrush.  You can DIY a scrub by mixing some sugar with an oil like jojoba or olive oil.
  4. Don’t lick lips!
