Makeup & Beauty Tips on How to Wash Your Makeup Brushes

Share your best tips and tricks for washing your makeup brushes!  Feel free to share your experiences, how you mastered techniques, or what you struggle with.

Temptalia’s Tips

  1. Always wash immediately after use if you’ve used a pigment that might stain (greens, reds, purples, blues, etc.) with a light or white-colored brush
  2. Never soak brushes in a bowl of water, because the water can get into the ferrule and cause rust and/or glue to breakdown
  3. Consider deep conditioning face brushes periodically

Makeup & Beauty Tips on How to Layer Lipgloss over Lipstick

Share your best tips and tricks for layering gloss over lipsticks!  Feel free to share your experiences, how you mastered techniques, or what you struggle with.

Temptalia’s Tips

  1. Try using a more opaque lipgloss (in a similar color) to help even out a sheer lipstick.
  2. Use a sheer but pearly gloss to add sparkle, glossiness, and an illusion of fuller lips over a more opaque, matte lipstick.
  3. When applying the gloss, wipe the applicator either on a lip brush, disposable lip wand, sponge tip applicator, etc. and then apply using the outside applicator (whatever you choose!).  Otherwise, you’ll be getting your favorite lipstick into your favorite lipgloss!  It’s not as big of a deal with lighter lipsticks, but with reds and the like, it can tint the lipgloss base!

Makeup & Beauty Tips on How to Apply Cream Blush

Share your best tips and tricks for applying your favorite cream blushes!  Feel free to share your experiences, how you mastered techniques, or what you struggle with.

Temptalia’s Tips

  1. I find that cream blushes apply best over bare skin or a sheer liquid foundation–and better when the liquid foundation is still slightly wet/damp.
  2. Sometimes, I prefer to apply the cream blush over bare skin with a heavier application, then lightly stipple liquid foundation around the edges. This is great for when cream blush doesn’t seem to play well with your foundation.
  3. Fingertips tend to be one of my favorite tools for blending out a cream blush, but sponge tip applicators, stippling brushes, and the like work well, too. The warmth of my fingertip tends to help keep the blush movable.

Makeup & Beauty Tips on How to Apply Liquid Foundation

Share your best tips and tricks for flawless application of liquid foundation!  Feel free to share your experiences, how you mastered techniques, or what you struggle with.

Temptalia’s Tips

  1. Moisture your skin well; the better the real base, the better everything applies on top of that.  Give your moisturizer some time to absorb and sink in before applying anything on top of it.
  2. I like spritzing either my face or my foundation brush with a bit of water, which helps to sheer out the liquid foundation and give it added slip.  I find that we don’t need nearly as much foundation as we think, so it helps make any foundation sheerer and then enables me to go back over areas that need more coverage with without putting too much on everywhere.
  3. I like to give my foundation a few minutes to set before applying a finishing or setting powder on top, because this helps to keep the powder from sticking too much in any area (in the event that an area is slightly wet still) and minimizes any powderiness from application of setting/finishing powders later on.

Makeup & Beauty Tips on How to Apply Cream Eyeshadow -

Share your best tips and tricks for applying your favorite cream eyeshadows!  Feel free to share your experiences, how you mastered techniques, or what you struggle with.

Temptalia’s Tips

  1. I like using a firm, flat brush (like MAC’s 249 or even concealer brushes work well) to get the color from the jar to my lid.
  2. If you want a sheerer wash of color, fingertips tend to work really well to blend out color, because the heat from your fingertip helps keep the shadow moving.  Otherwise, a fluffy brush (I like MAC’s 217) works well, too–especially if you want more precision/control.
  3. If you want more opaque color, consider building up the color in layers, so you can avoid it creasing (if it’s too thick of a layer, it takes longer to dry, which can cause it to gather in the creases while it’s drying down!).
