69th Annual Golden Globe Awards: Julianna Margulies
A look at Julianna Margulies as she walked the red carpet at the 69th Annual Golden Globe Awards held at the Beverly Hilton hotel in Beverly Hills, California on January 15th, 2012. Her makeup was done by makeup artist Kristofer Buckle. For Julianna’s makeup, Kris was inspired by Julianna’s deep mauve, metallic Naeem Khan dress. He wanted to create something that would complement its texture and liquid-like flow.
Makeup Breakdown
For the night, Kris kept Julianna’s skin simple with glowing soft tones to accentuate her olive skin. To keep Julianna’s complexion looking flawless he used L’Oréal Paris True Match Super-Blendable Makeup in Soft Ivory
For her cheeks he applied L’Oréal Paris Magic Smooth Soufflé Blush in Plume. The eyes really took center stage with a soft smoky eye that was created with watercolor-like shades using L’Oréal Paris Infallible Eye Shadow in Bronzed Taupe, Eternal Sunshine and Iced Latte. To tie the look together Kris used a hint L’Oréal Paris Infallible Eye Shadow in Iced Latte on Julianna’s upper cheeks to tie in the eyes and glowing tones of her skin.
Lips were left unlined and highlighted natural tones (with a hint of mauve) using L’Oréal Paris Infallible Le Rouge in Forever Frappe
Her hair was done by stylist Matthew Monzon. Inspired by Julianna’s Naeem Khan dress, Matthew wanted to compliment the sophisticated style with a hairstyle that was simple, fresh and young. Matthew created a polished ponytail, but punched it up with a touch of allure by adding volume and height to the top and front of her hair. The ponytail was sleek, glossy and tight to compliment and finish her classic look of the night.
Hair Breakdown
To create a volumized ponytail, Matthew first used L’Oréal Paris EverStyle Alcohol-Free Volume Root Lifting Spray & Volume Boosting Mousse on damp hair, combing it through from root to end and blow dried Julianna’s hair with a large round brush. Once hair was dry, Matthew sectioned the hair in two parts, securing a low ponytail and leaving the front/top section of hair out. Next, Matthew added some height to the top and front of Julianna’s hair by slightly teasing it with a brush. He then secured all of hair together to make a tight ponytail.
He then took a quarters size dollop of L’Oréal Paris EverStyle Alcohol-Free Smooth & Shine Crème & Serum and smoothed over the sides and in the ponytail to ensure that all hair looked smooth and glossy. Matthew finished Julianna’s look with L’Oréal Paris Elnett Satin Hairspray Extra Strong Hold Unscented to keep hair in place throughout the night

Her makeup was by Troy Surratt for NARS Cosmetics. On inspiration, Troy says, “The look is very ethereal. It’s dewy and glowing with a gorgeous sparkly pink lip, which was the perfect look to complement her bold dress. For me, it was a classic approach with a subtle balance of attention paid to all points of the face.”
Makeup Breakdown
We started with Cle de Peau La Crème to prep her skin as it’s something she uses on the show and day to day. Her foundation was NARS Sheer Glow Foundation with Cle de Peau Concealer to cover any imperfections.
On her eyes, we dusted the shimmery icy pink side of Douce France Trio Eyeshadow. We created a thin, barely-there line of black along her entire lashline using the Nuits Blanches Eyeliner Stylo. To get the precision, we placed the Push Eyeliner Brush to the ink of the stylo, and applied a thin line from the inner corner to the outer corner, growing slightly thicker at the outer corner, but not extending past the corner. We used Larger Than Life Lengthening Mascara on her lashes for definition. Brows were filled in with Jodhpur Eyebrow Pencil to make them appear more dense. To set the pencil, I applied Shiseido Translucent Brow Shaper.
On the apples of her cheeks, using a Yachiyo Kabuki Artisan Brush, we created warmth with Gilda Blush. It was the perfect blush shade at the intersection of peach meets pink without any shimmer.
We created a pinky-beige lip by first lightly defining with Rosebud Lipliner Pencil, filling in with with Frivolous Velvet Gloss Lip Pencil, and applying Baby Doll Lip Lacquer just to the center of the lips. This creates a light-reflecting affect for a fuller pout on the red carpet.
