69th Annual Golden Globe Awards: Debra Messing

A look at Debra Messing as she walked the red carpet at the 69th Annual Golden Globe Awards held at the Beverly Hilton hotel in Beverly Hills, California on January 15th, 2012.  Her makeup was done by makeup artist Jeannia Robinette for tarte. On inspiration, Robinette remarked, “Debra said she wanted knock-em-dead eyes. She wanted a super smoky dramatic look, so we made it all about glamorous eyes, and accentuated them with a shiny, natural nude gloss on the lips.”

Makeup Breakdown

To begin, Jeannia used tarte’s Amazonian clay 12-hour full coverage foundation with Broad Spectrum SPF 15, applied with tarte’s new airbrush finish bamboo foundation brush. She added a touch of sheen with tarte’s new maracuja blush & glow brightening luminizer and cheek tint in candlelight on the tops of her cheekbones and around her temples. She then used Amazonian clay bronzer in park ave princess to contour on the hollows of the cheek.

To make her cheekbones pop, she used tarte’s new Amazonian clay 12-hour blush in buff a warm nude with a touch of shimmer, on the apples of her cheeks and along her cheekbones.

She lined the inner rims of the eyes with tarte’s emphasEYES™ high-definition inner rim eyeliner black pencil. Then she smudged smolderEYES Amazonian clay waterproof liner in golden black along the lash line, followed by smolderEYES Amazonian clay waterproof liner in olive, which added the perfect hint of green to complement her earrings. She followed by tapping on Amazonian clay cream shadow in shimmering moss to set the look and strike the perfect balance of black and green. For loads of volume and dramatic separation on her upper lashes, Jeannia used two coats of tarte’s light, camera, lashes! clinically-proven mascara, which made her eyes pop. She finished by swiping tarte’s new the bright side double-ended eye brightener under her brow bones and in the very inner-corners of her eyes to add an instant brightening effect.

To complete Debra’s sexy, Hollywood glam look, Jeannia filled her lips with tarte’s LipSurgence™ lip luster in buff, then added major shine with tarte’s new maracuja divine shine lip gloss in glisten.

Paula Patton @ 2012 Golden Globes Awards

69th Annual Golden Globe Awards: Paula Patton

A look at Paula Patton as she walked the red carpet at the 69th Annual Golden Globe Awards held at the Beverly Hilton hotel in Beverly Hills, California on January 15th, 2012. Her makeup was done by makeup artist Fiona Stiles. On inspiration, Stiles said, “Paula was wearing a strapless Monique Lhuillier gown, a beautiful sunny yellow. We wanted to keep the look light and pretty, focusing on lashes and cheeks, playing up the happy element of the color.”

Makeup Breakdown

After prepping the skin, I used a flat synthetic foundation brush to swipe onCOVERGIRL Queen Collection Natural Hue Liquid Makeup in Rich Sand, applying it to the bridge of the nose, the cheeks, the forehand and the chin. Then I used the brush to blend the color out towards the jaw and hairline, going over the base with a criss-cross motion to ensure that it was well blended and there were no lines. I used a littleCOVERGIRL Queen Collection Natural Hue Concealer in Light to cover any darkness under the eye or redness along the side of the nose, feathering it out so it blended perfectly with the foundation.

Before I powdered with COVERGIRL Queen Collection Natural Hue Pressed Powder in Light Bronze, I used a dual fiber brush to apply a bit of COVERIGRL + Olay Simply Ageless Sculpting Blush in Lush Berryonto the apples of the cheeks and then after I powdered, I used a touch of COVERGIRL Cheekers Blush in Classic Pinkto brighten the face a bit more. I like to combine cream and powder blush – just make sure you apply “like to like,” so use the cream blush before you powder and the powder blush after the makeup is set.

Next I focused on the brows. I gave them a nice full look by adding a little to the shape with COVERGIRL Brow & Eyemakers Pencil in Midnight Brown. The key to making it not look too heavy is to run a clean spooly through the brows after you fill in with pencil. This softens the lines and blends the color in, making it undetectable. Set the brows with a clear gel, brushing the hairs into the desired shape.

For the eyes, I started by sweeping COVERGIRL Queen Collection Natural Hue Bronzer in Light Bronze over the lid, giving the eye a wash of warmth and a little depth, while still looking like her skin. Then I took COVERGIRL Queen Collection Eyeliner in Black Onyx and drew a black line all along the upper lash line, pushing it into the lashes. Taking a small synthetic brush, I smudged the line, softening the edge, making it less severe. I used a little black liner on the bottom as well, pushing it deep into the lashes so that when I applied NEW COVERGIRL LashBlast 24HR Mascara, the illusion was thicker, darker lashes.

The eyes–soft liner and strong lashes–were the focus of the look, so the lips and cheeks were just meant to compliment them.

A soft pale, peachy lip achieved using COVERGIRL Queen Collection Lip Gloss in Starlet Sand, made Paula look radiant without distracting too much from the eyes, and the wash of warm pink on the cheeks gave her a fresh, healthy flush.

I gave Paula her lip gloss, a few cotton buds, and some blotting papers for her to take with her on the red carpet. I wish I could be there to touch up my clients when they get to the red carpet, but once I leave them they are on their own. The challenge is fitting all of those touch up supplies in those teeny tiny clutches!

Her hair was done by stylist Robert Steinken. “The Monique Lhuillier gown looked beautiful on Paula, very movie star,” explained Robert Steinken. “As a result, I envisioned a style with the sophisticated sexiness of Brigitte Bardot, but modern and sexy without looking retro. I also gave the hair a sleek, shiny and luminous look that was soft and full of movement. I parted the hair at the center, added a bit of subtle volume at the crown, pulled the hair back close to the sides of the head, twisted it in back and let it flow down Paula’s back in soft, cascading waves.”

Hair Breakdown

I started with damp hair and sprayed a small amount of new Moroccanoil Frizz Control throughout the hair to balance hydration and prevent frizz. Next, I used one of my favorite products, Moroccanoil Hydrating Styling Cream. It’s amazing to use because you don’t feel it in the hair and it gives a beautiful texture while softly holding a style and allowing it to move.

When I blow-dried hair, I used a round medium-size Moroccanoil Ionic Ceramic Brush. I especially like its design since it holds the heat and acts almost like a roller while you blowdry, giving a nice smooth wave to the hair. Taking 2-3 inch sections, I let the brush to stay in the hair 10-15 seconds longer to allow it to cool and set the hair. Next, I used a 1” curling iron iron. starting at the root and wrapping the hair around the iron in a spiral. I held each section for 15-20 seconds, then removed and pinned the curl with a clip or bobby pin to let it cool. I lightly sprayed the set with Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray, unpinned, and brushed the curl out, then made a center part.

I then backcombed the hair at the crown for height, starting 3-4” inches from the hairline. To keep the backcomb in place and to style the hair more easily without losing volume, I sprayed it with Moroccanoil Luminious Hairspray. Finally, I sectioned hair behind the top of each ear and brought both sides together in the back with a twist, and pinned. I sprayed Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray on the style for hold. I love this hairspray because it allows movement. Hair can fall forward and move when Paula does. It kept the look very sexy, fluid and beautiful. It’s a unique product. I finished the style with Moroccanoil Glimmer Shine Spray for an extra touch of shine.

Marina complemented Stacy’s stunning red Valentino gown with a neutral, effortless look to reveal her natural beauty.

Makeup Breakdown

Stacy’s skin was prepped the night before with the KeSARI Pore Minimizing Indian Clay Masque. The day of the show, prior to applying makeup, Marina applied KeSARI Dark Circle Brightening Cream to the under eye area to reduce puffiness and impart a subtle glow.

Next, Marina created a base using NYX Cosmetics’ HD Studio Photogenic Primer and HD Studio Photogenic Foundation in Sand Beige. She then used the NYX Cosmetics Stay Matte But Not Flat Powder Foundation in Soft Beige to attain a matte finish. The NYX Cosmetics Highlight & Contour Powder was then applied to define and highlight Stacy’s cheekbones. To set the Highlight & Contour Powder and maintain a matte finish, Marina used the NYX Cosmetics Powder Blush in Dusty Rose over the apples of her cheeks.

Marina applied the NYX Cosmetics’ HD Studio Photogenic Concealer Wand in Beige to the under eye area to even Stacy’s skin tone. She then dotted the NYX Cosmetics Collection Noir Liquid Black Liner between Stacy’s lashes to make them appear thicker. Marina applied a thin line of the NYX Cosmetics Liquid Black Liner to Stacy’s top lid and then mixed the Liquid Black Liner with the NYX Cosmetics Powder Brown Liner for the lower lash. Marina then used the shimmery light beige eye shadow from the NYX Cosmetics Butt “Naked” Eyes Palette on Stacy’s lids and the brown eye shadow from the palette in the crease. She finished the look with three coats of the NYX Cosmetics Le Chick Flick waterproof mascara from the Boudoir Mascara Collection.

Marina created a nude lip to keep Stacy’s look as effortless as possible. She used a neutral lip liner and followed with the NYX Cosmetics Xtreme Lip Cream in Natural – the perfect finish to Stacy’s gorgeous feminine look.
