Gwyneth Paltrow @ 2011 Oscars

Gwyneth Paltrow @ 2011 Oscars

Gwyneth Paltrow arrives at the 2011 Oscars on Sunday, February 27th. Celebrity makeup artist Leslie Lopez said, “Gwyneth is very regal looking, she reminds me of Grace Kelly. Her dress was a gorgeous gold Calvin Klein gown. I wanted her to look classic and beautiful, and at the same time approachable.”

“I prepped her skin with CHANEL Sublimage Essential Regenerating Cream, then used CHANEL Vitalumiere Fluid Makeup in Beige as a base, and applied CHANEL Long-Lasting Concealer in Beige Ivoire. On her eyes I used CHANEL Fluid Iridescent Eyeshadow in Delta. I applied the shadow all over the lid, and then used CHANEL Soft Touch Eyeshadow in Trace in the crease. I then mixed the brown and taupe shades in CHANEL Quadra Eyeshadow in Mystic Eyes around the eyelid. I lined the eyes with CHANEL Precision Eye Definer in Brun, and applied two coats of CHANEL Inimitable Masarca in Noir, concentrating on the outer corners to make the eyes pop. To give a warmth to her skin, I used Soleil Tan de CHANEL in Terre Ambre. On the apples of her cheeks, I used CHANEL Tweed Blush Duo in Tweed Fuchsia. For her lips I used CHANEL Rouge Coco Shine in Canotier, (available in April) topped with CHANEL Rouge Allure Extrait de Gloss in Insouciance.”

Harry Josh, John Frieda International Creative Consultant, worked with Gwyneth to find a hairstyle that expressed her classic, elegant red carpet style. “Gwyneth was my inspiration. She never tries to impress and her sophistication comes from within–a hairstyle shouldn’t overshadow that. She’s always had impeccably chic personal style and I wanted her hair to reflect that on the Red Carpet.” – Harry Josh

Harry started with the new John Frieda Frizz-Ease 3-Day Straight (an at-home alternative to salon straightening treatments) because he wanted to give Gwyneth super smooth, shiny hair that would stay straight all night long. Harry began blowing out her hair with a Mason Pearson brush, carefully straightening each section at a time. Next, he went over each piece with a comb and a flat iron, ensuring every hair stayed sleek. Harry gave her a center part and combed down all stray hairs and flyaways with the new John Frieda Full Repair Flyaway Tamer, a great on-the-go styling tool that’s a must-have for any red carpet. Small enough to stash in a clutch, the mascara-like wand fixes any wild hair in seconds.

Marisa Tomei @ 2011 Oscars

Marisa Tomei @ 2011 Oscars

Marisa Tomei arrives at the 2011 Oscars on Sunday, February 27th. For Marisa Tomei’s gorgeous red carpet look, makeup artist Matthew VanLeeuwen worked exclusively with Anastasia Beverly Hills product.

Matthew took the Anastasia Highlighting Crème Duo in St Tropez (image #1 below) dipped into the crème blush and applied it in gentle back and forth sweeps across Marisa’s smiling cheeks. (Pro tip: smiling makes the job mistake proof, because it helps the blush go where it’s supposed to). Using the same brush, Matthew dipped into the highlighting crème and brushed the tops of the lips and nose with the illuminating fluid. The skin was “so translucent and smooth looking!”

Turning to brows, Matthew filled and shaped Marisa’s with Anastasia Brow Wiz Pencil in Brunette (image #2) and created a few feathery strokes in the brow and to define the bottom edge of the brow. Matthew then took Anastasia Brow Duality Pencil (image #3) and placed a bit of the matte highlighter just at the arch of the brow. The total effect is ultra defined and crisp brows that perfectly frame the face.

Moving to the eyes, Matthew took Anastasia Illumin8 Eye Shadow Palette 1 (image #4) and dusted the soft pink sorbet shadow all over the eye to brighten and tone the skin. Matthew raved that “the shadow is so smoothing and imparts a modern velvety texture.” Then Matthew took Illumin8 palette 3 (image #5) and blended the mauve shade into the crease “to create the perfect shade of orchid.” Next, Matthew lined the eye with a thin line of black pencil and smudged the sparkly blue/black shadow from Illumin8 palette #3 into the lashline to create a softer, smokey eyeline.

The eye makeup was finished by curling the lashes and applying two coats of Anastasia Lash Lifting Mascara (image #6), which Matthew says “has reached cult status with many of my clients…it’s incredible.”

Finally to finish Marisa’s stunning look, Matthew applied Anastasia Hydrafull Lip Gloss in Sangria (image #7), a gorgeous soft amethyst berry shade.

Sandra Bullock @ 2011 Oscars

Sandra Bullock @ 2011 Oscars

Sandra Bullock arrives at the 2011 Oscars on Sunday, February 27th. Celebrity makeup artist Angela Levin used Chanel and said, “My inspiration for Sandra’s look was glowing, princess, Hollywood glamour. Sandra represents elegance and simplicity, and I wanted her makeup to reflect just that.”

“I prepped Sandra’s skin with CHANEL Hydramax + Active Serum around her eyes lips and cheeks. Over that, I applied a bit of CHANEL Sublimage Concentrate which creates a gorgeous, healthy complexion. For a base I used CHANEL Vitalumiere Fluid Makeup in Clair. On the lower jaw line, chin, and forehead, I added CHANEL Mat Lumiere Luminous Matte Fluid Makeup in Clair. I wanted the glow to be focused on the center of her face. For her eyes I used the CHANEL Quadra Eyeshadow in Kaska Beige. I applied the darkest colour and the taupe colour, blending them very lightly, using only a small amount of shadow, and I used a bit of the mauve shade under her lower lash line. I used the CHANEL Automatic Liquid Eyeliner in Noir to create a very thin, delicate line. For her cheeks, I used CHANEL Blush Duo Tweed Effect in Tweed Fuchsia. Finally, on her lips she wore CHANEL Rouge Coco Lip Colour in Gabrielle. I applied it with a lip brush, then had Sandra rub her lips together, and applied again with the brush, creating the look of a dark stain.”

David Babaii known for achieving red carpet perfection, created “Texture Infusion” for Sandra Bullock’s 2011 Oscar look.

Start with a clean canvas by rinsing all the shampoo and conditioner from the hair. After gently towel drying, David applied Couture Colour Pequi Oil Treatment (now available at www.sephora.com) to the hair, using a wide tooth comb to evenly distribute the product. The Pequi Oil tames frizz, mends split ends while providing hair with incredible softness and shine. Then, he dried her hair with a round brush for a smooth finish. Once dry, David applied additional Pequi Oil and brushed her hair straight back. With the IT&LY HAIRFASHION Digital Styling Iron, he took random half inch sections starting at the front and twisted the hair. Once the strand is twisted, take your flat iron and press down the entire length of the strand to set a wavy texture in. Allow each strand to cool and release itself naturally. David continued taking half inch sections throughout the front half of her head until he achieved enough texture. When complete, additional Pequi Oil (www.sephora.com ) was added to his hands to finger comb the hair back into a ponytail above the nape area. He then wrapped her hair around the band and secured with bobby pins allowing any loose hairs to fall naturally.
