    Your skin tone/coloring:
In MAC NW45/NC50, depending on the foundation

    Best serum you’ve tried?
    Clinique Turnaround Concentrate Radiance Renewer

    Best skincare product you’ve tried?
Still trying to figure that out :) I do like the moisture mask by Philosophy.

    Best spot corrector you’ve tried?
Lancome Bright Expert Dark Spot Corrector (A-MAZ-ING)

  2. Stephanie C

Your skin tone/coloring: MAC NW 25 so light/medium.
Best serum you’ve tried? Still out on this one. I have tried & liked the Bare Minerals Night Serum, Hope is Not Enough and most recently Caudalie Vinoperfect Radiance Serum (3 days into it). So far they are all equal…
Best skincare product you’ve tried? Exfolikate and the Clinic to Go resurfacing peel pads. (both by Kate Somerville
Best spot corrector you’ve tried? Erase Paste but I don’t LOVE it.

  3. Natalie

Your skin tone/coloring: MAC 45/50, Nars Sheer Glow Macao, Chanel Perfection Lumiere Ambre 94
Best serum you’ve tried? I love my Powerful Strength Line-Reducing Concentrate from Kiehl’s. It’s a Vitamin C alternative to Retinol. (Which I am scared to try because of the peeling!)
Best skincare product you’ve tried? It would have to be Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate! An oil that doesn’t clog my combination skin and I wake up glowing with smooth skin. (Can you tell I’m a Kiehl’s girl?)
Best spot corrector you’ve tried? I’m not sure if you mean for a blemish or discoloration. I love Lush’s Grease Lightening for my acne spots, and my acne scars fade rarely quickly so I never use anything for them.

  4. Kry

Your skin tone/coloring: fair to light, neutral to cool, very dry, 40s*
Best serum you’ve tried? Philosophy Miracle Worker, but it’s not great. Just started Dior Capture Totale.
Best skincare product you’ve tried? Holding out hope for the Dior stuff. Otherwise, I’ve been disappointed in most of the products I’ve used. Except for Shiseido Urban Defense Sunblock.
Best spot corrector you’ve tried? Haven’t tried one.

    * I know you didn’t ask for age, but I’ve found that it’s starting to effect my purchases. Not just anti-aging issues, but that products and entire lines, like MAC, are geared towards the young and their blemishes, not my dry skin.

  5. Rachel

Your skin tone/coloring: Light Medium with subtle yellow undertones (MAC NC25)
Best serum you’ve tried? Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair
Best skincare product you’ve tried? Kiehl’s Rare Earth Pore Cleansing Mask
Best spot corrector you’ve tried? N/A (I have not encountered dark spots yet)

  6. NeenaJ

Your skin tone/coloring: Fair with cool undertones and freckles, brown hair, hazel eyes. Skin is sensitive, prone to dryness with hormonal pimples.

Best serum you’ve tried? For dry skin, it’s Mandom Barrier Repair Serum. For anti-aging, I’m trying a sample of Peter Thomas Roth Unwrinkle Turbo and it seems really nice, but wow $$$!

Best skincare product you’ve tried? Kate Somerville ExfoliKate (regular). I just recently bought this as I was determined to eradicate the dry flakes on my face and nothing was cutting it. The SA at Sephora was awesome and told me I could return it if it was too harsh for my skin. It is amazing!

Best spot corrector you’ve tried? Hydroquinone, but I’ve stopped for awhile to give my skin a break. I’ve been using Philosophy’s The Miracle Worker for about 2-1/2 weeks. Hasn’t been long enough to say whether it works or not. It takes 12 weeks of continuous use to see any real results from these things.

  7. Tracey

    Skintone/coloring- fair with warm undertones

Best serum- olay regenerist regenerating serum. Antioxidant and niacin in a silky primer-like consistanfy that helps hide my pores and wrinkles.

Best skincare product- clinique mild toner and cityblock sunscreen

Spot corrector- alpha hydrox spot lightener fade cream

  8. Skin tone/color: Cool/Olive
Best Serum: Image Ageless Serum (it’s full of glycolic acid!)
Best Skin Care Product: Image Vital C Cleanser (smells amazing and ANYONE can use it)
Best Spot Corrector: Image Clear Cell Medicated Acne Lotion (it contains benzoyl peroxide AND salicylic acid)

  9. Laura R

    Your skin tone/coloring:
Warm and extremely pale. There are many brands that don’t make a foundation shade light enough (Chanel, Dior, Clinique, Maybelline….I could go on).

    Best serum you’ve tried?
I’m just getting into serums. I bought Ole Henriksen Enlighten Me Pigment Lightening Serum a few days ago. It’s too early to tell.

    Best skincare product you’ve tried?
A great find off of etsy. I’m sensitive and prone to break outs, so I have to be very careful. I use White Rose Gentle Face Cream from goodearthessentials. It’s crazy inexpensive and doesn’t irritate my skin or break me out (which is amazing really). LOVE IT.

    Best spot corrector you’ve tried?
I just bought the Ole Henriksen serum to try to fade some old acne scars. We’ll see how it goes. I’ve never tried anything to fade them before.

Hi! I work at a Lancôme counter and we have a new foundation called “teint Idole 24HR”, and the lightest shade (100N) is technically considered “neutral” but it is very very fair. For reference the one
MAC concealer i tried i was a NC15, and the Lancome 100N is definitely too light for me. It’s a full coverage foundation, so if that’s not your thing you might not like it, but you can always drop by any Lancôme counter and get a free 10 day sample to try it!

They also seem to be slowly reformulating the Teint Miracle foundation (sheer, build able coverage), in the shade range of the 24HR (of course, without sending us new testers to compare them, ugh), meaning if you like more sheer/moderate coverage, eventually it may be available in that light shade!

  10. Your skin tone/coloring: Tanned with golden undertones (NC42).

Best serum you’ve tried?: Haven’t found one I like.

Best skincare product you’ve tried?: Pangea Organics Calendula cleanser.

Best spot corrector you’ve tried?: I have had amazing results using Palmer’s Cocoa Butter on dark spots.

  11. Rachel

    Your Skin Tone/Coloring:
    Very pale neutral

    Best Serum You’ve Tried:
Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate (though I don’t use it anymore)

    Best Skincare Product You’ve Tried:
Liz Earle Deep Cleansing Mask. I have acne prone skin with blackheads on my nose, milia under my eyes and around my chin. After using this, all of the above is noticeably smaller/less aggravated. Also my skin feels moisturized, soft and supple; not at all dry and tight. I also love the Hot Cloth Cleanser as a pre-cleanse in the morning before I use my Kate Sommerville Detox Daily Cleanser. The Liz Earle Toner is amazing too!

    Best Spot Correcter You’ve Tried:
If by spot correcter you mean blemishes: Combination of DDF Benzoil Peroxide Gel and Neosporin.
But if by spot correcter you mean discoloration, I haven’t tried any.

  12. Em

    Fair/Neutral 24 years old

Best Serum: I haven’t tried many, but I got a sample of Clinique’s Repairwear which really impressed me and I used up the entire sample, but I haven’t purchased a full size because it’s not a serum that’s targeted for my age or needs.

Best Skincare Product: That’s a hard one….a skincare product that has impressed me the most is argan oil. I use Josie Maran Daily Moisturizer SPF 40 with Argan oil every day and it’s really made a difference in my skintone and texture.

Best Spot Corrector: I haven’t tried any spot correcting products, but tea tree oil is great for improving and healing acne scars. I like The Body Shop tea tree oil and Lush’s Grease Lightening.

  13. Moena

Your skin tone/coloring: Medium with neutral golden undertones, and according to my last journey to a MAC counter, NC37.
Best serum you’ve tried? Ole Henriksen Truth Serum (I love how it smells too!)
Best skincare product you’ve tried? ExfoliKate
Best spot corrector you’ve tried? I haven’t tried any of the products specifically labeled as dark spot correctors yet, but the Body Shop’s Tea Tree Blemish Fade Night Lotion has helped with acne scarring and discoloration.

  14. Mariella

Your skintone/colouring: MAC NW15/20, so fair and cool toned

Best serum you’ve tried: none have been great; Clarins has a nice one but it’s outrageously expensive; right now, I’m trying out Ole Henriksen and I like it well enough

Best skincare product you’ve tried: that’s such a broad, general question that it’s hard to answer but new products I’m liking are Ole Henriksen’s daytime moisture cream with SPF and Laura Mercier scrub (face polish?)

Best spot corrector you’ve tried: I haven’t tried any

  15. Your skin tone/coloring: Medium dark with yellow undertones (NC42)

Best serum you’ve tried? Yes To Blueberries Intensive Skin Repair Serum

Best skincare product you’ve tried? Murad Pomegranate Exfoliating mask

Best spot corrector you’ve tried? I’ve never tried a dark spot corrector.

  16. Jackie

Skin tone/coloring: Cool undertones and fair skin/MUFE Mat Velvet + 15/MAC NC 15

Best serum: I haven’t really tried any serums. Does Lancome Visionnaire count? That’s the only similar product I’ve tried and I love that.

Best skincare product tried: Garnier Gel Cream moisturizer… it’s the best for acne prone/sensitive skin.

Best spot correcter tried: Aloette Spot Lotion

  17. Frckls

Skin coloring: NC30 (closer to NC25 in winter), Tarte Smooth Operator TM in Agent 010, NARS TM in Alaska.

Best Skincare: OHWTO Black Magic Soap & Kose Softymo Acne Facial Wash

Best Spot-Corrector: La Roche-Posay Cicaplast & my DIY Vit C Serum

All are cheap and work amazing. 😀

Best Serum is Paula’s Choice Resist Retinol Serum

Best Skin care product The Clarisonic Mia used with WEN Cleansing Creme

Best Spot Corrector Paula’s Choice Resist Clearly Remarkable Skin Lightening gel. It comes in an AHA formula or a BHA formula. Both are superb!

The use of Paulas Choice Resist and Skin Recovery lines has taken me from terrible skin to amazing glowing PERFECT skin. the best part is that all her stuff is under 20 bucks and generously sized. I also love using Maracuja/Argon/WEN oils to deeply moisturize with.

My skin tone is MAC NW25

Best serum has been Dior One Essential Serum, and I only tried it because I won it in a gift basket otherwise I can’t see myself spending $100 on this

Best Skincare, anything Philosphy is amazing, but the bast would either be Hope in a Jar or Purity facewash

Best spot Corrector, is again a Philosophy product, the Miracle Worker

  27. Makaegan

Your skin tone/coloring: Still in winter mode–Light/Medium Olive (CoverFX M30, Nars Fiji, MUFE 118)

Best serum you’ve tried? Best that I’ve tried was definitely Lancome Genefique, but I didn’t love it and I’d never purchase the full size. But the L’Oreal Youth Code is remarkably similar, only with a stronger fragrance. Olay Regenerist was good, too. But I’m still looking for the perfect one.

Best skincare product you’ve tried? I couldn’t even begin to choose one. Maybe my Burt’s Bees toner or my Cerave lotion…so simple, but such wonderful discoveries.

Best spot corrector you’ve tried? My BB Cream (Skin79 Super+ Triple Function), without a doubt. Nothing has gotten rid of acne scarring and dark spots like this product. My mom swears by hers, too.

Im in the shade of Mac NC 40, so im a very ligth skinned sista lol

I never tried any serums, not that i could think of honestly

The best skincare product i ever used i would have to say one point. I think my skin was clearing up nicely but went back to its natrual ways so i stopped using it. As of right now im using clean and clear exfoliate and my skin is doing pretty good but not 100 percent.

Best spot correcter I ever used was an old product made my maybelline and it was the one that had a concealer and a hightlighter. I name is gone on the packaging so i cant say whats it called but it worked like magic. Im now using the new Age rewind and that works AMAZINGLY!!

  30. Nicole

    Your skin tone/coloring: MAC NC20-25
Best serum you’ve tried? Paula’s Choice RESIST Super Antioxidant Concentrate Serum
Best skincare product you’ve tried? Paula’s Choice products
Best spot corrector you’ve tried? Paula’s Choice BHA gels (she offers several)

Temptalia’s contributor John’s first post on skincare and the drastic results he achieved through changes to his skincare routine really impacted me. I began reading reviews on beautypedia (which I had never heard of until he mentioned it in his post), and while I was skeptical of the great reviews Paula always gave her own products, I eventually decided to try them as I ran out of my cleanser/moisturizer/etc. I needed something, and Paula’s products are reasonably priced and she offers a great return policy, so I felt comfortable purchasing some items. I haven’t loved all the products just because of the way they interact with my skintype (e.g. nothing major, just my skin feeling too oily by the end of the day, or too dry under my eyes), but skincare takes trial and error (just like makeup application and finding the right colors takes trial and error). I am in my 30s and my skin looks better than ever after using PC products for about 3 months (and she has saved me a lot of money on unnecessary eye cream, since her more hydrating products are just as good if not better than most of the eye creams at Sephora). For the record, I’m not affiliated with Paula’s Choice in any way. This is the first time I’ve mentioned her products to anyone, other than writing a few product reviews on her own website.

    • And that… makes me so happy! While skin care is more easy to evaluate than makeup, there’s certainly a trial and error aspect. I also have not been satisfied with all Paula’s Choice products, nor is every single product of my routine from her line.

Regardless, I’m glad I could point you in the right direction. Rock on!!
