The ever talented Risa shares a how-to…

Happy Sunday & Thank You!

As Sunday wraps up, I just wanted to spend a few moments thanking everyone for their kindness over the past week.  It’s been a rather tough week for me personally, where many things just reached a boiling point, and I really felt like I had too many balls in the air and not enough hands to keep them all there!  The support you have shown me, via the blogging scholarship contest, was absolutely overwhelming and truly humbling.

I think we have definitely given others some food for thought — we are smart, savvy men and women who enjoy our makeup as much as we enjoy our friends, family, careers, education, or whatever pursuits we may have in our individual lives.  Makeup for us is not about masking ourselves but an expression of who we are.  It is only one facet people see, while we are all incredible people with a variety of backgrounds.  At the end of the day, makeup is FUN!

Thank you for your comments and support!  It means so much to me to have it, and it serves as just one more reminder about why I blog, why I enjoy it so much. :)

Discussion and debate are highly encouraged, and we expect community members to participate respectfully. When asking a question, please check the FAQ section (above) for information about purchasing, price, dupes, and the like. If you have general feedback or need technical support, please contact us.

“Makeup for us is not about masking ourselves but an expression of who we are.”

This really resonated with me tonight. I really get fed up with people saying that makeup is for people with no confidence and that we’re trying to HIDE something. I hate that holier than thou attitude so much!

If I didn’t have time and money to spend on makeup I wouldn’t. But I do, and I enjoy coming up with new colourful looks everyday.

Sorry, I needed someplace to have a quick rant that’s not my status on Facebook for once 😛

And personally, I think what you do is amazing and impressive. I couldn’t imagine going to school AND running a blog! I’m currently in third year university (cellular biology! whoo!), and I couldn’t imagine doing half of what you do.

We, your readers, are always here to support you! You do so much for us, and sometimes we may demand too much. We forget how hard it is to run the amazing, detailed, in depth blog that you do! Just the other day I was doing a blog post and ended up taking 113 pictures and posting 84 of them. It took me damn near ALL DAY. And you wanna know the first thing I thought about? “How the hell does Christine run Temptalia without spontaneously combusting?!” I have SO much appreciation for the dedication you put into Temptalia and I thank you for everything you do.

    • LOL! Props to you. 84 photos is nutty to post all at once!

Thanks a lot, Sam! :) There are some times, like this week, where I practically do. At least into tears. LOL!

  4. (PSST! I actually ALMOOOST emailed you this week to say hi and see how you were doing, but I thought that was strange! Hope things mellow out soon)

Great video link! I loved watching that! :)

    • Me too! With MAC Tartan Tale being ridiculously large and overwhelming, it really mucked with some of the real life deadlines and duties (midterms, MPRE studying, friends/family). I think I may have bitten off a few heads here… haha. Will have to make amends with a few people 😉

You sound like you need a… [[GIANT HUG!!]]

Honestly though, Christine. I can’t imagine how much time and effort it takes to go to school fulltime AND run a blog like Temptalia — that’s bound to stretch you pretty thin again and again. Plus, adding things like “unfair judgements” and “real life” (pah!) the mix? :/ I know I couldn’t do it for more than a month or two before going totally nuts! (Like, actual “I need to take a year off and head to a clinic” kind of nuts, not just the “let’s have ice cream” kind.)

So: that group of “smart, savvy men and women who enjoy our makeup as much as we enjoy our friends, family, careers, education, or whatever pursuits we may have in our individual lives”? Just remember one thing…

…we think you’re pretty damn awesome.

That has to count for something, right? :)

    • YES! Group hug!! :)

Yeah, everything just seemed to come at once – MAC Tartan Tale and its overwhelming amount of products, influx of trolls, midterms… ahh! Too much at once.

      Thank you, Rae! :)

Christine I think you are amazing – I visit your blog several times a day and I am always amazed at the amount of detail you put into your reviews. You are honest about the products you feature and I LOVE that you do swatches and actually demonstrate looks for us! Keep up the good work – I think I speak for all your readers when I say that you are truly fantastic!!! xoxo Joanie

Yay Christine. Tough weeks can be really ugly and yucky, so I’m so happy that you powered through. Cheers to you! Have a great week this week! Hope it is off to a good start.

just to echo everything that has been said already! You put it so well, I was trying to say something similar in the blogging scholarship post. I feel like make up is part of my creative side, I don’t have an obsession with looking perfect! In fact sometimes I like looking crazy and out there. (actually my red lipstick collection may have caused a few raised eyebrows in my ultra conservative office!)

If its any consolation got the same arguments thrown at it when it won the best blog at the Irish blog awards – I read tonnes of blog articles on other sites saying how the blog is so anti women, which couldn’t be further from the truth. These naysayers have clearly never read your blog or beaut.ies!

    • It does make me feel better to hear Beauti.e had to go through something similar — if only to know I’m not the only one, LOL!

      Thank you, Etaoin! :)

Boo to Mac Tartan tale for stressing you out Christine! You did fantastic reviews of it, which we all really appreciate, but I’m sorry to hear that you were over-strectched recently. Make sure to take some time for yourself this week! We’ll all understand if you’re ‘Gone fishin’ for a day or two 😉

    Hey Christine,

As a smart confident engineer who loves makeup, I wanted to thank you for keeping a classy face on during the whole scholarship thing – I can imagine how many trolls you had to moderate and it couldn’t have been easy. Your readers can tell how much hard work you put into your blog, and we truly appreciate it! <3
