I loathe detubed lipstick. It might make your collection easier to organize, but then you ALWAYS have to carry a lip brush with you if you need to reapply.

    • I think it’s great for artists, ’cause it makes SO MUCH SENSE, and I believe Dusty mentioned that if it’s more for personal usage, it might not be as fabulous, but I know some who *always* apply with a lip brush, too!

I was thinking just a couple of days ago that I hate it how I have to open all my lipstick tubes to know what color they are (trying to memorize the names is hopeless!) This video is exactly what I was looking for! I only ever use stuff if I see it, and now I can easily see all my lipstick colours at once! It is annoying to have to always carry the brush, but it’s a trade-off for awesome organization! I went to walmart today and picked up some clear stack and started with 6 of my older cheaper lipsticks (just to try). It was a very messy process! I am a little hesitant to de-tube my nice Guerlain and Dior though… The tubes are so pretty but my OCD nature does not allow for more than one styles of organization. I have one question though: will melting the lipstick into the jar change its quality at all? Thanks and your blog is great! I know it’s my first comment and I’m already writing a novel…

  6. Thanks for the we heart this shout out Christine! Brooklyn Shoe Babe’s thoughtful post on post baby weight should be required reading for moms-to-be.

    his eyes are AMAZING!

  8. I’m mulling over the idea of doing that with my lipsticks…. Particularly for the dark ones, I always use a brush anyways, for the best shape. Mainly though, I just HATE that i can’t organize my lipsticks with teh label visible!

The man got tired of my whining, and drillled a bunch of holes in a foam piece to hold the rounded ends, so at least i can see the labels right off, but it takes up SOOOOO much space since the foam cracks if you put the holes too close together…. Plus, I’ve already added new lipsticks and don’t have enough slots.

    IRRITATING!

I’m so happy Dusty did that tutorial! I love the idea!

    • Aww, but it was sweet of him to do!! :)

      • oh that was so sweet of him! :) i love how you said that he “got tired of your whining” lol! a guy who gets sick of your complaining and THEN helps you out by trying to make you something is definitely a keeper :) hehe.

I love this idea…I would love to depot my lipsticks so I could B2M them but I love my l/s tubes….hehe. Perhaps I will do this in the future after I’ve used them awhile. Thanks for sharing!

I will only transfer from the tubes when I used the lipstick to a stub. The only time I transfer new was when my lipstick broke after 1st use! I would prefer to use old empty makeup palettes though.
