Smoky Eyes: Tarnished Gold with Urban Decay Alice in Wonderland Palette

Smoky Eyes: Tarnished Gold
A tarnished gold, smoky eye… for school? Sure, why not! Let’s go with that. Wanted to post this before I ran off to class in a few… that is, if I don’t fall asleep before it’s time to go! Must. Press. On!
By the way, anyone else going to the Spring Colour Forecast unveiling party at MAC @ Valley Fair (in California) on February 2nd? I’ll be there at 7pm, so if you see me, say hi :)
You will need the following…
- Eyes: Urban Decay Primer Potion (eyeshadow base), Urban Decay Wonderland (Maui Wowie) Eyeshadow (tarnished gold), Urban Decay Mushroom Eyeshadow (brown-gray), Urban Decay Mad Hatter (Twice Baked) Eyeshadow (dark brown), Urban Decay Jabberwocky (Oil Slick) Eyeshadow (sparkly black), MAC Femme-fi Eyeshadow (neutral highlighter), Urban Decay Stash 24/7 Liner (antique gold), Urban Decay Honey 24/7 Liner (gold), MAC Plushlash Mascara (black)
- Face: Kiehl’s Tinted Moisturizer (Medium)
- Cheeks: Chanel In Love Blush (soft warm pink), Guerlain Beige Lumineux Meteorite Powder (fleshy beige highlighter)
- Lips: Guerlain Beige Mousseline (#340) KissKiss Strass Lipstick (sparkling beige), Guerlain Champagne Pearl (#847) KissKiss Gloss (sheer beige)
- Brushes: 226 (fluffy crease brush), 219 (pointed crease brush), 249 (flat, firm brush), 239 (fluffy shadow brush), 116 (dense blush brush)
- Substitutes: N/A
For eyes, start by applying Primer Potion as your eyeshadow base all over the eye area with the 249. Using the 239, apply Wonderland eyeshadow on the inner half of the eyelid. Next, apply Mushroom eyeshadow on the middle third of the eyelid and lightly blend with the inner corner. Darken the outer third of the lid with Mushroom eyeshadow with the 239, gently brushing it into the lower crease. Lightly blend Mad Hatter eyeshadow, with the 239, on the outer corner and lid. To deepen the crease, apply Jabberwocky eyeshadow with the 226 into the crease. To finish the eyeshadow look, sweep Femme-fi eyeshadow as a highlighter on the brow bone. Bring everything together by applying Stash eyeliner on the lower lash line and Honey liner on the lower water line. Finish by sweeping lashes with Plushlash mascara.
For cheeks, apply In Love blush to the apples of the cheeks and sweep upwards towards the temple with the 116. Highlight cheeks with a light dusting of Beige Lumineux Meteorite Powder with the 165.
For lips, apply Beige Mousseline lipstick first, and then layer Champagne Pearl lipgloss for a complementing lip.

Wednesday, January 27, 2010Oh! Very, very classy. I like the use of black to smoke it up just slightly. I’ve been trying to have more fun with neutral colors because they are much easier to get away with at work, so I may have to replicate this look tomorrow. Trying to decide which of my blushes and lips to use with it…maybe Otherworldly blush and Warm Me Up l/s with…hm, VGV l/g? 3N? Funny, I have some nice super-neutral or brownish lipglosses, but not many in lipsticks! Gotta think of some to pick up.
Christine
Thursday, January 28, 2010Thank you so much, Daphne!! :)
I think Otherworldly would work, maybe just lightly. Definitely Warm Me Up with VGV!
daphne
Thursday, January 28, 2010Heh, well, I tried it today but accidentally used WAY too much of Jabberwocky! It was far too smoky for work. I had to wash it off and was running late by then so I just swiped on some mascara plus Otherworldly blush and…Gems + Nymphette again :) I’ll try it again tomorrow and go very, very easy on the black!
Christine
Friday, January 29, 2010I hate when that happens! But thank goodness for that lovely lip combo ;)
Catherine
Wednesday, January 27, 2010This look is positively gorgeous! So classy! :D

Lizet Luna
Wednesday, January 27, 2010I have a question, maybe some other time has been answered, but sometimes I think that ended my shadows expiring …
You know how long life has a shadow assuming MAC?
Christine
Thursday, January 28, 2010Technically, powder can last a very, very long time (like YEARS!) because it’s powder, therefore not very susceptible to harboring bacteria. I think the “suggested” shelf life is around two or three years, but I know I own powders much older than that. I know some with shadows as old as ten years!
Crystal
Wednesday, January 27, 2010SO PRETTY! It’s a hard call, but I think this is my favorite look ever on you!
Christine
Thursday, January 28, 2010Thank you, Crystal!

Julia
Wednesday, January 27, 2010That look is gorgeous! Unfortunatly, I don’t think I would ever get that palette, its a little too expensive.
I won’t be @ Valley Fair ( I live in Canada) but when I lived in California, I would go shopping there all the time! I guess it’s a small world!
P.S. I LOVE aunty Em’s pretzels & that weird lemonade & corndog place!
Christine
Thursday, January 28, 2010Thanks, Julia!
What a small world indeed!!

Mariel
Wednesday, January 27, 2010Christine! This is straight-up gorgeous! I’m a new reader to your blog, and just love this look. I’m much more into neutral shades than colorful ones, so I really enjoyed this post. Still, would like to see what you come up w/ using the other more vibrant colors in the palette. Very cool!
Christine
Thursday, January 28, 2010Thanks a lot, Mariel :) I love neutral shades, and I might even wear ‘em more, but then you guys would totally get bored!
Andrea

LNU
Wednesday, January 27, 2010You know I actually prefer the Kiehl’s tinted moisturizer, guess I’m not a fan of the dewy look either! And I really am loving all these Guerlain lipsticks, I’m gonna have to go check them out myself!
Christine
Thursday, January 28, 2010Haha! ;) Guerlain lipsticks are to-die-for.
LNU
Saturday, January 30, 2010I totally want to get myself some of these lipsticks, but with the semester starting and all my money going to books, my wallet does not agree! :(
Christine
Sunday, January 31, 2010OMG, I feel your pain, LNU! I think I dropped like $800 or more on textbooks for this semester/quarter! :(
LNU
Monday, February 1, 2010:(
I lucked out on about 200 bucks cause the local library had them all for one of my classes, the rest I ended up renting from chegg.com!

Cherie
Saturday, January 30, 2010Good idea – I will call today and find out. There is a MAC near the work event I will be at so maybe if I slip out early nobody will notice… :)
Brenda
Wednesday, January 27, 2010hahaha!! Today was Maui Wowie day!!! I fell back asleep before my own classes so it was a fast face:
Avon tinted moisturizer
magrittes paint by MAC
Fairytrail by Yaby inner corner
*Maui Wowie all over up to brow bone
and a Nylon dupe from Gosh to highlight!!
Lips were similar colour (on my skin) in Patissere. Point being I love this Look!!!!
Christine
Thursday, January 28, 2010Haha, how fun!! :)
Sounds so pretty, Brenda!

PS. I’m jealous you’ll be at Valley Fair!!! I’m from Los Altos and now live in boondocks Utah and REALLY miss the amazing shopping (and the BIG MAC store in VF – I’m jealous!!) in the Bay Area!!!

Wednesday, January 27, 2010LOOOOOOOOOOOOOVING the last pic…christiiiine..whenever you do your tutorials pleeease pleeeease can you take a pic just like the last one in this tutorial (u know the distant full face pic where you can see the colors properly)
it gives me a much better idea of when and where i can wear this look..and which dress it would be perfect with
PLEEEEEEASE keep this tiny request of mine in mind…pretty pleeease …i luv it when u take the full face pics…they are MUCH more useful to me :)
Christine
Thursday, January 28, 2010I’ll try!
Thanks!
Nancy
Wednesday, January 27, 2010I love it! Can’t wait to try something like this on Saturday!

Rosie
Wednesday, January 27, 2010I love that I have every color in this look. I’m going to try this tomorrow or Friday (well, if I get up in time as today was a moisturizer, blush, liner, mascara day). I love Stash and Honey. You look lovely, thanks for sharing :). How does Alice/painkiller compare to Peace, color wise?
Christine
Thursday, January 28, 2010Yayy!! :) I’m happy you’re going to try it — good luck on waking up on time, haha. I totally know how that goes!
I don’t own Peace, but based on my [terrible] memory, Peace was distinctly bluer whereas Painkiller is aqua-blue.
daphne
Thursday, January 28, 2010I actually swatched the two next to each other the other day. They are in fact nearly dupes! I couldn’t really tell you what the difference was between them.
amy
Wednesday, January 27, 2010I love Mushroom from my BOS Vol II set but in this set I really like Jabberwonky. The muted golds are gorgeous!

Chrissy

Thursday, January 28, 2010aahhh even i got the invitation in mail and was thinking abt u only ….
me unlucky gal … not for mac but atleaset i had got a chance to meet u :(
anyways hard luck
u r looking stunning in this but pls tell me is there any gel or something in ur hair … i have lot of baby hair so whenever i do a ponytail my hair looks so messy
is their any trick to make them look neat?
Christine
Thursday, January 28, 2010Aww, that is too bad! Do let me know if/when you are in the area again :)
You could use a pomade to smooth back flyaways!
rashmi
Thursday, January 28, 2010thank u christine
i googled the word pomade and got to know about “murray’s pomade ”
is this the one u were talking abt or any other ….
is it harmful for hair ???
Christine
Friday, January 29, 2010I haven’t tried that one… I think the one I have is by Citrix or something. You can probably find lots of them – it’s kind of like wax or really, really thick transparent gel for hair to help tame those flyaways.
Something like this… http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=162272&catid=12252&trx=PLST-0-CAT&trxp1=12252&trxp2=162272&trxp3=1&trxp4=0&btrx=BUY-PLST-0-CAT

Christine
Thursday, January 28, 2010Thanks so much, Erica!
Alisha Endre
Thursday, January 28, 2010This is a great smokey “day” option. Something about the gold/brass color is non-obtrusive so it just makes the eyes pop and look sexy without looking as though you are still in last nights party makeup or something. lol.
with a lighter hand, i would even wear that to the office.
BEAUTIFUL as always!
Christine
Thursday, January 28, 2010Definitely! It’s dramatic without being too dramatic for the day time.
Thank you!
lucinda
Thursday, January 28, 2010love love love! i have been looking to get a look like this! Thanks for posting!
Christine
Thursday, January 28, 2010Thanks, Lucinda!
Jenn
Thursday, January 28, 2010Nice look! I won’t be @ Valley Fair this go round. I’m still on the east coast. I will be moving to your neck of the woods this summer. My husband just got a job in Mountainview and they are letting him work from MD while we work on the big move.
Christine
Thursday, January 28, 2010Aww, too bad! Hopefully there’ll be another fun event at MAC once you’ve moved back to Mountain View :)
Ellie
Thursday, January 28, 2010So gorgeous!I love the gold on the lower lash line. Where do you think you would wear this look? :)
Christine
Thursday, January 28, 2010Thanks a lot, Ellie! I’d wear this anywhere — in fact, I wore this to school :)

Thursday, January 28, 2010Hi!
I’m doing alright, thank you for asking. I’ve started my internship a few weeks ago and it is truly EXHAUSTING — but SO interesting!! Still trying to desperately catch up with all of your posts and looks, you’ve been a busy girl, Christine!
How are you? Holding up well in your classes?
Christine
Friday, January 29, 2010I try, LOL!
I’m so glad you seem to be enjoying your internship, and I hope you’re learning a lot :)
I’m making it through… midterms in another week, ahh!
LRW

MissTiss
Thursday, January 28, 2010Hmm. I just commented that I like the Bobbi Brown t/m better, but maybe I’m mistaken. Could you post a side by side? Also what’s your MAC shade again? I’m t/m hunting.
I love neutral looks on you. So elegant!
Christine
Thursday, January 28, 2010Thank you! :)
lol! It might just be it works better with certain looks, too. I’m NC25-ish!
MissTiss
Thursday, January 28, 2010Awesome!! I think I’m going to go with the Kiehls. Yep. It’s decided. I’m NC25ish too.
Thanks, Christine.

Thursday, January 28, 2010Theres an event the Second? I thought the collection came out the 11th!
i love the tarnished gold theme on you-I can’t pull that off though. It takes a lot of finagling to get colors THAT warm to work on my skin! I may have to try again though.
Christine
Friday, January 29, 2010Yep!! :) It does, but the unveiling is the 2nd for some stores that are having the preview parties – you can buy the goodies on the 2nd during the event (usually 7pm-10pm or so), and then not again til the 11th!
Thank you!
dolce aria
Saturday, January 30, 2010Ah. That makes more sense then. Here I was hoping they were going to release it a week or so early.
I think that there is something more than coincidence in the Color Forecasts release at the same time as Vday and my anniversary.
Meh. Now I must see if the local stores are doing any events. I REALLY want to see this collection, though it wouldn’t hurt to wait a few weeks.
I think its just that I haven’t bought more MAC since my last splurge(atlantic blue, winkle, moons reflection, and aquadisiac. I am in love with all of them!)
Christine
Sunday, January 31, 2010Nope, as far as I know, it’s still slated for the February 11th date. And yep, MAC always puts a big ol’ launch *just* in time for Valentine’s Day ;) I think they know us too well…
Ashley
Thursday, January 28, 2010I just bought my palette yesterday and tried this look this morning- it came out great!! Can’t wait to see what other looks you come up with :)
Christine
Friday, January 29, 2010Yay! So glad you wore this look :)
Thanks, Ashley!
Erica
Friday, January 29, 2010Christine, Any idea when the Guerlain Kiss Kiss Strass lipstick will be available? I checked with Sephora and they only have the glosses.
Thanks!
Christine
Friday, January 29, 2010I know Neiman Marcus and Nordstrom are already selling them!
Erica
Friday, January 29, 2010Thank you for such a quick reply!
