Smashbox Wish for the Perfect Pencils Set: Celebrate, Wish, Hope, Love, Dream

Holiday Glitz & Glamour with Smashbox’s Perfect Pencils

Smashbox Wish For The Perfect Pencils ($32.00 for 5 0.04 oz. eyeliners) includes five stunning, limited edition shades of pencil eyeliners.

  • Celebrate is a bright, metallic silver.
  • Wish is a deep forest green black.
  • Hope is a bright pop of violet purple.
  • Love is a rich bronze with a cool tone to it.
  • Dream is a deep black.

First, I demand to know why Smashbox doesn’t have a whole line of permanent eye pencils available.

I really, really would love to know why they keep such a fabulous product limited to seasonal offerings. (I believe the last set of liners they offered was with the Muse collection, but my memory often fails me, so perhaps they did it in summer/fall, too.) BUT WHY, SMASHBOX, WHY? I’m totally serious!

These eyeliners are incredibly smooth, easy to use, line beautifully (no dragging), and they stay all day. In fact, in a blind-lining-challenge, I wouldn’t be able to tell you the difference between these and Urban Decay’s 24/7 Liners (which I love, love, love!). They even have a similar look to them. I’d say these are, perhaps, not quite as soft, but it’s really debatable and almost undetectable in difference. They’re even the same size (0.04 oz.)! But since they’re packaged together as a set, you’re actually getting a very nice deal at $32 for five full-sized liners. That brings each of these down to $6.40 a pop–cheaper than a lot of drugstore brands–and they’re some hardy liners.

I found they didn’t wear all day on the waterline (not much does), but I got about three or four hours of bold wear on the lower waterline and then the rest was just slightly faded–so it wasn’t super noticeable unless you were inspecting me and all in my face. On the lower lash line, they performed like true champs. They stayed true to their bold color, lasted all day, didn’t migrate, fade, or smudge. It’s truly a fantastic formula, and I want to be the first one to start the petition for Smashbox to make a permanent, full range of these pencils!

Plus, I love any time a brand gives part or all of their proceeds to charity: Smashbox is granting wishes this holiday season! With each purchase from the WISH collection, you are helping make miracles happen. Smashbox will donate $1 of every purchase up to $25,000 to Children’s Miracle Network, a non-profit organization that grants the wish of life by providing medical care, life-saving research, and on-going education to help millions of kids overcome diseases and injuries of every kind.

If you want to know more about how products are evaluated, read out Rating System FAQ! :)

  • Product: 30/30
  • Value: 10/10
  • Ease of Use: 4/5
  • Packaging: 4/5

Recommendation: Seriously, less than $7 a pop, fantastic colors, long-wearing formula? I don’t know how you can resist, but I give you props if you do.

How do they compare to the HiP Metalllic ones? Because it is a cheap price but you get a lot less product.

They’re similar, but obviously the finishes are completely different.

These look beautiful! Very similar to the UD liners, which I love, especially since Smashbox is more available (than UD) at some department stores.

Glad you like ‘em! Will you be picking up a set?

They look nice. Would you recommend them over the L’Oreal HIP liners? How do they compare to the Urban Decay 24/7 liners?

    • Christine

They’re different from the HIP liners, since those are very, very metallic/chrome, IMO. I think I said it in the review, but I couldn’t tell you the difference between these and UD’s, so they’re the same in my book.

Yes, you said, sorry, wasn’t paying full attention. I think I will just stick to UD, Smashbox is not easy to come by in this country.

I wasn’t sure if I did or not, and I was too lazy to go back to the review, LOL!

They’re really, really equivalent. Smashbox’s are just a better deal (if you can get them) since they’re always in sets and end up cheaper than a single Urban Decay one.

I need to check if the counters in Vienna have these! I’ve been looking for something that lasts on my lower lashline and we don’t get Urban Decay or MUFE here. Thanks for the review!

Ohh, I hope you can find them!

I am such a UD 24/7 liner junkie but am never objected to finding dupes to them. These pencils look like perfect dupes. So gorgeous. This is going to definitely be a “must have” purchase. That green & brown are phenomenal. I am in love with the new UD brown liner called Corrupt. Is the Smashbox brown anything like it or is it more like UD’s Bourbon??

    • Christine

      Wednesday, November 4, 2009

Hmm, I think it’s a little more like Bourbon. Not quite as dark as Corrupt!

I have no idea that Smashbox does not stock eye liners in their regular product line and that they are limited edition. These are pretty though, but I just picked up the U/D Super Stash and that would last a while and I am really happy with them. I will be on the look out for these once my U/D stash runs low. The Wish colour is beautiful. The colour reminds me of my MAC Kohl liner in Tarnish.

I looked, and I didn’t see anything – checked both Smashbox’s site and Sephora. :(

But they’re really fantastic, so I’m so curious as to WHY NOT!

Argh, I wish they were sold individually! I really love the green but the others are too similar to ones I already have.

Aww! I wish they had a full line of them, period!

How do they compare to UD and MUFE liners?

    • Christine

      Wednesday, November 4, 2009

They’re pretty much the same as UD as far as I could tell. They’re softer than Make Up For Ever’s, though.

they look really nice. I wish i had heard about them before i just bought the MUFE holiday set with 5 liners from Sephora’s freiends and family sale…

    • Christine

      Wednesday, November 4, 2009

Aww :( Oh, well, you’ll still enjoy your MUFE liners!

Ooh, sorely tempting, especially as I have been on the lookout for a purple liner. Don’t know if I need the whole set though! How would you compare these to the Prestige WP liners? The UD 24/7s tend to smudge and migrate on my lower lashline after a few hours and the Prestige WP hold up just a tad big better. I already have a grey, brown and black in that formula…

    • Christine

      Wednesday, November 4, 2009

      I haven’t tried Prestige’s liners, so I couldn’t compare for you! :(

I love the colors! I actually prefer pencil that’s not as creamy as UD’s, but doesn’t drag, so I might check these out! I know you said they’re really similar, except not as soft (but still very soft!). :]

I have a question – how would you go about sharpening these? They look like the kind of pencil that you “twist up”, but I’m not really sure on that. Thanks :D

    • Christine

      Thursday, November 5, 2009

I believe they sharpen like UD – using a sharpener. Since they’re so similar to UD, I’ll probably just use my UD sharpener for these! I tried to twist, but nothin’ happened!

These pencils are FANTASTIC! The purple one (hope, I believe?) is just a stunning colour! Thanks so much for the suggestion – these guys are my favourite holiday purchase yet!

Do you plan on reviewing the lipgloss set too, by any chance? (Because, I’d love to read your thoughts on that!)

    • Christine

      Friday, November 27, 2009

      No problem! :)

I won’t be reviewing the lipgloss set, sorry!
