shu uemura G Bronze Eyeshadow

shu uemura G Bronze Eyeshadow ($15.00 for 0.049 oz.) is a bronze-glittered golden copper. The base color is similar to MAC Sweet & Sour, which is more opaque. Bare Escentuals Remix is yellower. Dior Couture Gold is more orange. Milani Drenched in Gold is similar. None of the shades that I could think of have the same glitter component, though.

It’s sheer, and the glitter is fairly loose; it doesn’t seem to bind with the underlying color, so some of it gets lost between the pan and the eyelid during application, and the rest? It falls out like crazy throughout the day. I had absolutely no fun trying to make this work, because I’d find glitter on my forehead, beneath my eyelid, or on my chin throughout the day. Fall out that occurs while you’re applying a product can be easier to deal with, but fall out that continuously occurs while you wear it is much more frustrating.

This type of texture needs an adhesive base, perhaps something like Too Faced’s Glitter Insurance, MAC’s Mixing Medium, and so on, because it doesn’t stick to the lid on its own or over a regular primer (like NARS Smudgeproof, Urban Decay Primer Potion, etc.). It has a slight grittiness as a result of the amount of glitter in it (and that it doesn’t seem to bind the shadow portion).

The product I have shown in the photos is a pan refill, which is designed to be put into one of their palettes (though you could certainly put it into any magnetic palette, as it is held in a metal tin).

Don't bother with the glitter finishes unless you're prepared to use an adhesive base, but on their own, they don't yield nearly enough color payoff and the all-day fall out is more than just a little problem.

I really love Shu Uemura, but I hate their packaging. I have blush with terrible case.

  2. go get it from Sonia Kushik…if you want pressed glitter eyeshadow or from Tom Ford…both work well.

Definately!!! I’m a glitter fanatic and I’ve tried the pressed glitter from both of those company’s and they are phenomenal!!! But I was soo excited to go and try the shu uemura ones but I’m glad I read this before!!!

When I first saw the picture out of the corner of my eye I thought it was a piece of toast.

  4. Paige

Wow you look at the eyeshadow in the pan and it looks buttery and pigmented but the swatches look disappointing especially for the usual high quality of shu uemura!

  5. Damn, I had high hopes for that one. Guess I’ll stick to the Body shops shimmer cubes ;)

  6. Arlee

In the pan it looks a lot like UD Toasted! I think I’ll stick with the UD, though… haha!

  7. Ew. I’ve had really good experiences with Shu shadows, but this looks awful. Kind of reminds me of a bronze version of the Nars glitter shadow pencil from last year.

  8. I think it looks gross even in the pan! It looks like sand! I wouldn’t want to put that near my eyes!

    That’s bad :/

  10. Oooh too bad about this eyeshadow. The colour in the pan looks so good! The pan kind of reminds me of Giorgio Armani’s Eyes to Kill eyeshadow.

I thought it was a slice of bread.

Other than thinking the pan was a piece of bread, I’m always really happy to see Shu Uemura products reviewed on your site. I LOVE the brand, but they’re not available in stores here in the US (FOR SHAME) so I can’t test them out in person and I have to rely on reviewers such as yourself.

You also saved me money and kept my faith in Shu, because I was considering buying it because the color is really beautiful. I had no idea how gritty it is when swatched. :( I would’ve been so disappointed and liked the brand less had I gone ahead and bought something crappy.

    • I just don’t know what brands are thinking when they go with these glittery formulas – they just don’t stick. I’d rather them come out with a product to MAKE them stick if they’re going to put them in the permanent range, but let’s not pretend that it’s actually going to stay put without something special, lol!

    Bummer! It looks gorgeous :(

i had the strangest dream. i took a two day trip to… somewhere (california?) anyway one of my friends was friends with CHRISTINE! only in the dream i kept calling her temptalia. “omg temptalia your room is so neat!” i got to see new products before she even got to test and photograph them. only it was like a museum “no no no don’t touch that! careful” and i got to take home expensive lip gloss. this was probably one of my favourite dreams lately

  15. Bethany Tate

I thought Shu Uemura isn’t available in the US anymore. Has something changed?

  16. Temptalia

That is a crazy dream Miya Caballero!!

I think it was because I was up late last nite surfing your site for a few hours and I recently watched your storage/collection video lol dreaming about make up and a beauty blogger, not too unusual for me lol
