Revlon Creme Brulee Colorburst Lip Butter

Revlon Creme Brulee ColorBurst Lip Butter ($7.49 for 0.09 oz.) is a sheer light-medium brown with peach shimmer and subtle warm undertones. Guerlain Ne M’oubliez Pas is more opaque, slightly darker. NARS Pago Pago is pinker. MAC Lush Amber is very similar.

It’s a rather translucent color, which means that it will often look different depending on the natural coloring of your lips. For instance, if you have a lot more natural pigmentation, this will look less pale/light. On me, it adds some warmth and makes my lip color look more even, but it doesn’t add a whole lot of color. If you like the idea of a “nude” in the sense of a soft way to de-emphasize your natural lip color while adding warmth, this would be a good pick.

Creme Brulee is a wearable, everyday kind of shade, and the texture is creamy and has a lot of slip, so it glides across lips easily and leaves behind a glossy sheen. Unfortunately, the slip also contributes to a very short wear time–a mere hour! I typically get four hours of the average lipstick (that isn’t touted as long-wearing). It contains a little less product than the average lipstick (typically 0.10 to 0.12 oz.) and requires frequent reapplication, but it is a more moisturizing formula.

  1. I love nudes, especially my-lips-but-better nudes, which is what this appears to be.

  2. Melody

Yep I’m gonna end up with all of these ;)

  3. I love all these Lip Butters! I like some of them just because they’re so easy to put on!

  4. I like the nude, but better look and it suits everyone’s complexion!

This is a *little* too sheer, for my liking, but now I want to swatch NARS Pago Pago!

I really like the Revlon Lip Butters that I have (Red Velvet, Berry Smooth and Cherry Tart) but that nude colour is just not something that appeals to me.

  7. Jenny

I would love to know how this compares to MAC High Tea? I have High Tea, so I have not purchased this color since I am not sure I need both.

  8. Avatar of Steph Steph

I’ll love it when it’s on sale!

I love Revlon Lip Butters, but I think they are better in the brighter colors. I have a few and all of them are pinks or reds. I’m sure the deep colors are lovely too, but this is too sheer/nude.

    • blueraccoon

@misscheriamor I agree with you :) I have a bunch, but I’ve noticed that the paler or subtler the color, the less I like it. My faves are Berry Smoothie and Pink Truffle.

  10. Quinn Ryan Smith

This and red velvet and lollipop were the first lip butter’s I bought. Love all 3 of them!

  11. Ashley Blanchard

This and Peach Parfait are my fave!

  12. Lauren Uhde

This color gives my fair olive skin frosty concealer lips. I have to mix it with other lip butters.

  13. This is a shade that you isn’t for everyone. It looks amazing on you Christine! On me, it made me so yellow, and I looked sickly. I do love the formula so I am using it up as a chapstick around the house.

  14. Amanda

Definitely not worth the Australian price…

  15. Yvonne Chang

I have Tutti Frutti, but I want Raspberry Pie now. Not into Revlon at all previously, but I would love to have all the lip butters now! :D

I have this colour and it looks awful on me – it just looks like a white frost over my lips.

  17. CiaraAinsleyFears

Eh, sounded promising, but my lips are way too pigmented for that!

I feel that this is not an accurate review being as lip butters are essentially tinted lip balms. However, your review treats them as though they are lipsticks. It is not a comparable product to actual lipsticks and as such, shouldn’t be held to the same standards.

    • Can you explain how I’ve rated them inaccurately? I rate products based on what the brand claims they are supposed to do – which is exactly what I did with Revlon’s Lip Butters.

What do you believe I should lower my standards to? I’m confused as to what I would change.  The only area this product didn’t do well on was wear — even lip balm lasts 3-6 hours on me, depending on the formula. The best products I’ve come across in the lip balm category, the ones that actually hydrate, last around four hours or longer. For instance, my favorite, Jack Black, lasts anywhere from six to twelve hours, depending on what I’m doing.

There’s no definitely no way I could give this more points when the average lip balm lasts around four hours on me, so I’m at a total loss as to what you believe is wrong with the rating! I’d love for you to clarify!

@Christine (Temptalia) Firstly, I don’t feel that my comment deserved the condescending reply that was received and it is not appreciated in any way.

However, I will reiterate, hopefully a little more clearly. I feel that much of this review compared the lip butter to lipsticks. You even wrote “most lipsticks last x hours on me.” That is great for reference on reviews for lipsticks but lip butters will not be the same. Also, there is no mention of a lip balm that it could be comparable to in terms of wear, texture, etc. in the review itself. Why not mention Jack Black in the review? What is the point of mentioning lipsticks when it is not one? It’s apples and oranges. I feel that that point was clear in my initial post.

I have been a long time reader of Temptalia and you have been my go to for swatches on a range of products, both low and high end. However, I will go elsewhere for information on new products for now on. I don’t need to be belittled by a beauty blogger, or anyone for that matter, for simply stating my opinions.

        • Hi Natalie,

I’m sorry you found my reply condescending, as that was certainly not my intention! I was trying to explain how I rated the product, since you said I did so inaccurately but did not really clarify – such as “but as a lip balm, it wouldn’t wear as long” or to that effect. I asked for your clarification – there is nothing wrong with me asking you for more information because unfortunately, what you said wasn’t clear enough to me, even if you felt it was, and I didn’t realize asking you to clarify would be problematic.

There is a variety of textures and consistencies within lipstick and lip balm. Lipsticks is essentially some product that you apply to your lips to change the color of your lips – these definitely do that! :)  I do not agree that they’re apples and oranges. As far as I have understood, this is more of a hybrid product – more of the moisturizing properties and feel of a lip balm but with more of the color of a lipstick. Tinted lip balm wouldn’t be the right description, since Revlon themselves describes the coverage as sheer to medium – and sheer is certainly more like tinted, but medium is more coverage than tinted.  If check out how retailers organize this product, they seem to put it under lipstick (Ulta, Walgreens, Drugstore.com).

I have, in the past, mentioned that lip balms are far more moisturizing, actually, in regards to the Lip Butters, I do believe! :) I have written more than one review on the product – so I don’t always want to repeat every thing I say so I don’t bore people!

  19. It looks so pretty and i gonna to buy it,now i am using RIDER LIPSTICK that is also very cute and long lasting color.

  20. Brittany

I have this and a few others like sweet tart, cherry ect. and so far I really like them. I think sweet tart looks the nicest on me and so do the reds, but I cant do the darker lip colors unfortuanately. Just doesnt go with my skin tone at all..however my mom can pull it off great!

  21. jennyh

I would love to know how this compares to MAC’s High Tea? I have High Tea and have not got this color because they seemed similar enough that I don’t need both.

  22. Avatar of Laura ToxicAngel

I’ve got quite a few of these. Mostly more of the brighter red/pink colours. But I wear this a lot, especially at work. I find them really moisturising and it gives me a ‘my lips but better look’ without being really obvious that i’m wering a lippie. The wear isn’t great on me but it’s not atrocious either.

  23. AlexSteproe

I really enjoy this product. Lip products last a while on me (a normal lipstick usually wears 6 hours on me) and I have excessively dry lips so this was the perfect buy. This color is my personal favorite, I have very pigmented lips and it helps to tone it down a bit when I play up my eyes. Its also great to throw on without a mirror for just that little bit on lazy days. I also have Mac Lush Amber but this really helps my dry lips. :)

  24. az

I like pales and nudes. this is good cause it’s got a lot of moisture. Not dry at all.

  25. az

This is as good as a chapstick to me. it’s got that much moisture. The only thing i’d wear would be this, no other makeup. It glides right on, natural looking. Love it. Definitely one of the better colors.
