HATE it! HATE it! Same as most of you ladies! So freakin' impossible to remove unless half my lashes come off with the stuff. You end up scrubbing so hard that you damage the tender eye skin. Even using especially designed eye make up remover for waterproof products does not help! It comes out greasy but the stuff doesn't bulge. I never have had problems with the regular non-waterproof stuff anyway. If I want to go swimming, I just don't put mascara or makeup on.

NECESSITY. Without it, I get smudging and raccoon eyes by midday! Of course, it's not so fun taking it off at the end of the night, even with an excellent eye make-up remover (my favourites are Mary Kay Oil-Free Eye Make-up Remover, Lancome Bi-Facil Eye Make-up Remover, and Neutrogena Oil-Free Eye Make-up Remover.)

I'm still on the fence between regular and waterproof mascara... because I like the regular ones, they work fine for me. though they do smudge a little if it's a hot humid afternoon. with waterproof mascaras, i find that they clump so easily for me :S maybe i haven't found the right brand yet. but i'll keep trying! i've been changing brands every few months when i need to change mascaras! :P

I'm a regular user of waterproof mascara... I barely even touch regular mascara anymore! I find that it does hold the curl better (and even seems to lengthen/thicken better), and I've never had a problem with smudging to date! It gets hot in the summer and in the winter I'm prone to the whole watery-eye syndrome, and I hate getting those lines of mascara across your face (although it occasionally happens with the eyeliner)...
It can be a pain to take off, but I use Neutrogena Makeup Remover Cleansing Towelettes, and those tend to the job :)

I love waterproof mascara, it the only thing that can hold a curl for me. I use eye make up remover and ponds cold cream to remove eye makeup.
