Quick Temptalia Poll - Look Breakdowns

I would love to get your feedback on how you want to see the breakdowns of the products I used for the looks I post on the blog.テあ The first one is more explanatory than the second, and it also gives descriptions of colors rather than just the names.テあ The second one is more descriptive by listing specific products, where they were used, and then possible dupes for LE products at the end.テあ Please let me know what you prefer!テあ Thanks!
Edited to Add:テあ The first one does list the dupes for any LE product.テあ E.g. “MAC By Jupiter or Ricepaper Eyeshadow.”テあ By Jupiter was a LE shadow, but Ricepaper is a permanent product.
THE FIRST
Define brows with a dark brown powder shadow (MAC Brun Eyeshadow) and fill in using a short, angled brush (MAC 266).テあ Start by using a metallic gold base on lid (MAC Gold Mode Pigment or Gold Metal Pigment).テあ With a fluffy shadow brush (MAC 239), apply a soft cream yellow shadow to the inner lid (MAC By Jupiter or Ricepaper Eyeshadow).テあ Follow by applying a yellow-green color (MAC Tectonic or Sumptuous Olive Eyeshadow) on the middle of the lid.テあ Darken outer lid and crease by using a soft teal (MAC Ether or Shimmermoss Eyeshadow).テあ Highlight brow with a shimmery yellow-gold (MAC Rose Blanc or Nylon Eyeshadow).テあ Finish with black liner (MAC Graphblack Technakohl) and black mascara (MAC Plushlash Mascara).
Sweep apples of cheeks with a dirty coral blush (MAC Margin Blush) and highlight with a soft gold shimmer (MAC Gold Spill Mineralize Skinfinish or Daisylight Beauty Powder).テあ Fill lips with a medium coral lipstick (MAC Thrills or Skew Lipstick) and add a gold-orange shimmer gloss (MAC Poetique or Instant Gold Lipglass/Lustreglass) for dimension.
THE SECOND
I used Gold Mode pigment (LE) on lid, By Jupiter eyeshadow (LE)テあon inner lid, Tectonic eyeshadow (LE) on middle of lid, Ether eyeshadow (LE) on outer lid and crease, Rose Blanc eyeshadow (LE) on inner lid, Wondergrass eyeshadow on middle/outer lid, Shimmermoss eyeshadow in crease, Metamorph (LE) eyeshadow above crease, White Tie eyeshadow (LE) on crease, Ether eyeshadow (wet) (LE) on outer lower lash line, Tectonic eyeshadow (wet) (LE) on middle of lower lash line, Rose Blanc eyeshadow (LE) on inner lower lash line, and Graphblack technakohl on lower lash line. I used Margin blush with Gold Spill mineralize skinfinish (LE)テあon cheeks with Taupe blush to contour. I had Thrills lipstick (LE) and Vital Spark lipglass (LE)テあon my lips.
** These are recommendations for dupes based on permanent colors available — may not necessarily be identical; they are the closest I can think of!
Gold Mode = Gold Metal; By Jupiter = Ricepaper; Tectonic = Sumptuous Olive; Ether = Shimmermoss; Rose Blanc = Nylon; Gold Spill = Daisylight; Thrills = Skew; Poetique = Instant Gold
Now, vote for your favorite!

I prefere the second one, because it is more fluid to read (I hate quotes in the text, I prefere Footnotes)

I prefer the first one because it gives those of us who don’t have those colors or brushes an idea of what color or brush to use instead. :)

Thanks, Lizzii!

I really like the first one better but I still would like to have the list of dupes added to it just because I might not necessarily have all the colors and still might want to do the look with a fairly resembling color.
Thanks for taking feedback!

Hi MACAddict,
The dupes are still listed in the first one :)
Tuesday, July 22, 2008
I actually feel exactly the opposite. All of the (LE)s make it harder for me to read the second. I really like the first because the color descriptions add to my vocabulary for describing makeup. If I had no idea what “dirty coral” meant, now I do! Also, I prefer a description of the brushes because I don’t have a single MAC brush yet. Mine are a ragtag collection of really nice hand-me-downs from Mom and decent drugstore finds.
More description makes me happy, and I think we learn more, too!

Thanks, Asta :D Appreciate the feedback!

I think the first description is harder to read overall with the constant insertion of parenthetical brushes and products. However, it’s even more distracting, IMO, to read a sentence that is just a list of products (i.e. the second description). So if you could mix them…lol. Also, I think a lot of people like the dupes section, since most of us don’t have all the new products as they come out or happen to miss the LEs. Thanks for being so very open and considerate of your readers, though! That’s what makes this my favorite beauty blog!!!

Hi Nora,
The first one does list the dupes, though :) The first product listed is the one I used, and the “or ___” is the permanent dupe!
Tuesday, July 22, 2008
yes,the first one is very hard to read, and its a bit complicated for me,since english is not my mother language. the first one is like the descriptions on the official MAC site. the second one i love much more, its written in Temptalia style :-DDDD

Thanks for sharing, Zsofi :D

I like the first cuz it has descriptions of the eyeshadows. I don’t have any MAC products, so it’s nice to be able to get an idea of the color with descriptions like that

Thanks, Brittany!

I like the first a lot better because I don’t own many MAC products, so it’s easy to figure out what I can use from my own makeup stash.

Thanks, Peggy!

My favorite part of the 2nd is the LE dupe list, but I can see the value in the first description though I am tired of MAC’s use of the word “dirty” to describe a lot of their colors.
Wednesday, July 23, 2008
The first does list the dupes in it :)
Tuesday, July 22, 2008
I really like the first option, but some people are saying that the parenthetical notations make it more difficult to read. I also like that in the second you tell us which colors are LE vs. permanent. Maybe you can do the first option in bullet format, with each step being a new bullet.

Hi Mimi,
Thanks for your input! I appreciate it!
Tuesday, July 22, 2008
The first one is much easier for me to follow; as I read these, I imagine myself doing them step-by-step, and so the first one really helps me do that.
Wednesday, July 23, 2008
Thanks, Carrie :)

I like the first one much better. I would also suggest adding the list of dupes for the products listed. I think is more beneficial to people like me that don’t have an extensive collection of MAC eyeshadows!!

The first one does list the dupes :)
Thanks!

I think that the second one is easier to read, and that you could combine the two by adding a colour description for each thing used down in the part where you list dupes. It could become the “colour description and suggested dupes” area. You also don’t necessarily need to list what’s LE or not in the initial description, as that is also distracting. You can add whether or not it is LE down in the Description/Dupes area. I believe that it would be the easiest to read and most informative that way.
Plus, the first way makes it seem like everything is a tutorial, which is unnecessary. Additionally, if someone wants to figure out just one of the colours you used, the first makes that task quite tedious.

Hi Sanayhs,
Thanks so much for your input!

I liked the first one because of the descriptions. I also like the list of dupes in the second one. I’ve got lots of Mac l/s and l/g but I’m just beginning my collection of e/s. It helps me to have the names of the products used in case they’re still available, but having the dupes is helpful too. Or having the description of the color in case I have something close to it already. Sorry, this doesn’t sound too helpful!
Wednesday, July 23, 2008
Thanks, JillyB! The first list does contain dupes, though, actually!
Tuesday, July 22, 2008
I actually don’t like either, though I voted for the second. I’m often pressed for time while browsing the internet, so I quickly look over the FOTDs you post and when something stands out about one (for instance a gorgeous lip color) I scroll back up to read what you used. It’s hard for me to quickly find out what’s on your lips or cheeks etc — instead I have to read the whole paragraph. I’d prefer an Eyes: Lips: Cheeks: breakdown. But I know you like it this way, so I guess I’ll just have to deal! ;)

Hi L A S,
Thanks for your feedback!
Tuesday, July 22, 2008
THE FIRST ONE :)

Thanks, Sadie!
Tuesday, July 22, 2008
I like the second but agree it can be difficult to follow in paragraph form. Maybe listing (ex. brow-nylon
inner lid-
middle lid-)…etc would be easier to follow.

Thanks for the suggestion, Stephanie D!

Love the first. I am always having to go to the MAC site to look up colors or dig around for LE color descriptions if I don’t know the name of the colors you are using. The first one lets me know exactly what color group they are in and then find a dup if I don’t have the color you are using.
Wednesday, July 23, 2008
Thanks, I appreciate you sharing your thoughts, Mamade!
Tuesday, July 22, 2008
i like the notation of the second as to whether it’s LE or not and the dupes, but I preferred the first b/c I felt like it gave more of a tutorial type format, talking about the order to apply them and what brush type to use. I don’t often use multiple colors on my eyes, for example, so the more specifics, the better for me.

Thanks, I appreciate the feedback, Whitnee :)
Tuesday, July 22, 2008
I like the first one, but what might work is having a short list of the products used and colour description (where you could put the LE information etc) and then having it written like the first one but only having to write out the names. I also like the dupe information but I think my suggestion might make way more work for you! All I know is if I see a picture of a look worth duplication, I’ll go back and read it.
Wednesday, July 23, 2008
Hi Ashley,
Thanks for the suggestions! :D
Tuesday, July 22, 2008
if youre gonna do it short and sweet like the 2nd one, break it up line by line, reading something that choppy in paragraph form isnt appealing to the eyes.
Wednesday, July 23, 2008
Thanks for the input, Ivy!
Tuesday, July 22, 2008
Honestly, I think the first way is way too confusing! It was really hard to read.
I definitely like that you include the dupes though.
For what it’s worth - I think the way you have been doing it has been fine :)
Wednesday, July 23, 2008
Thank you, Vanessa!
Tuesday, July 22, 2008
I like the first but would still like the list of possible dupes.
Wednesday, July 23, 2008
Thanks! The first does still include dupes :)
Tuesday, July 22, 2008
I like the dupes info. And I prefer the listing of products used on which areas, but I think the description is not really necessary because different people have different ways of applying the products on themselves. If you are doing a tutorial, then it’s a different story altogether, because you would have step by step pictures to describe HOW the colors fit in together.

Hi Sophia,
Thanks for the feedback! It’s really helpful!
Wednesday, July 23, 2008
I much perfer the second one. It’s to the point. Gives me a guide on how to do it, without having to over analyse the paragraph.
I love the dupes info. Personally, for me, the second one reads clearly and gives me all the info I need.
Wednesday, July 23, 2008
Thanks, Lee!
Wednesday, July 23, 2008
The first one is more helpful to me since I don’t buy only MAC products (my product addiction is equal opportunity, lol!) Thanks for taking an interest in your readers’ preferences.
