Prom 2008: Vibrant Red Dresses & Makeup

Saturday, April 26th, 2008

I adore red dresses, especially these deep, elegant ruby red dresses. They’re completely royal and classic, rather than in-your-face kind of red. My favorite choice would be something in line with the second look pictured, because golds complement reds so well, and yet there’s a touch of Cranberry eyeshadow to tie everything together. I feel like it’s an excellent choice for both depth, color, and overall style. But of course, with a dress in such a bold shade, going completely neutral on the eye is never a bad choice! I also like a soft smoky eye, something with a little bit of gold and a brown-gray, not so much straight black. Pink lips, nude lips, coral lips… anything goes. Even red lips could work with the appropriate eye (and the right shade of red). For a dress like this, I would concentrate on perfecting the skin and using a subtle blush to bring out my natural flush.

Check out suggested looks: one, two, & three. Dress is available at Nordstrom.com for $98.

I think those looks would definitely work for you, Rin!

thak you im wearing my hair as a side tail and chose the gold and cranberry eye but im in another dilema im confused on my jewelery. ?should i go with; silver dangling earings and silver bangles(shoes- black, low heals with a silver buckle thingyyy) OR large, wide gold tear drop earings with a few gold bangles(shoes-tanish/brown/gold/ platform heels)dont think the shoes will go with the outfit, but... im confused.) the party is tomorow april 18 PLeASssssssse help THANK YOU SOOOOOO MUCHSssss

Why not try both? See which looks better :)

gosh i looooove red dresses too, in that shade. i'd definitely go with a cat eye. simple shadow, just to highlight and deepen whatever needs highlighting and deepening. definitely perfect skin, i think red more than anything calls for perfect skin. i would attempt a nice red lip, only if i can find the perfect shade that doesn't clash with the dress. dyou think red lips and a red dress would work better on darker skin? as opposed to maybe nude lips and a red dress on fairer skin? i keep picturing nicole kidman. she pulls red dresses off rather well.

I love deep reds like this, too :) I think you can do red dresses regardless of skin tone, as well as the lip. It's about finding the right shades!

Hey Cristine, I also ADOREEEE this red and red dresses or maxies like these.I do respect ur thoughts but i wud prefer,a totally red eyes something red and black smoky look and LUSH RED LIPPIES without lipglass. It shud look like fantasy very dreamy look wearing this type of dresses, and yes ofcourse event wud be CANDLE LITE DINNER at a seven star hotel or DINNER PARTY,obviously with my darling hubby (if u ask,(LOL :D)ahhhh this dress and his thoughts make me go crazzzzy)!! Zzainy...

Hey Zainy! I feel like that look is soo bold and probably not easy for most women to carry, but it's great that you can :)
