Project Revamp

If you could revamp St. Ives Apricot Scrub, what would you change? What would you keep the same? How would you make it an even better product?

I would make it creamier, not as abrasive and sand papery. I use to love this stuff, but it’s too harsh for the face. Until Christine got me so hooked on Lush Cosmetics and I ultimately divorced myself from St. Ives face scrub to Coal Face.

I’ve been using St. Ives Apricot Scrub for at least 9 years (i think) and it’s the only thing that keeps those pesky bumps on my nose from appearing. If I miss ONE day of scrubbing….i wake in the morning with a bumpy nose. From what I’ve noticed, they’ve changed the package at least 2 times…each time adding less product. What happend to the jar!? Now, I go to my local Walmart and find that they’ve changed their package AGAIN, AND still less product! I get home to scrub my face and WHAT?! It’s a freaking cream now! Little tiny particles that do nothing for me. I enjoyed the harshness of the scrub…IT’S A SCRUB! I’m so irritated and dissapointed…..this was the only thing i used for my face…now I have to find something else. It’s a shame. Maybe I can go to a Walgreens or CVS and find the old stuff and stock up on it.

I love St. Ives. I would only add another line that is less harsh (use smaller particles). I’ve used the medicated scrub for years and have always liked it more than the regular one, which I just use for my body and not my face. Use the medicated scrub under your armpits and it helps with sweating…I don’t know why it works but it just does at least for me. :)

i would say make a body one. Specially for people who use fake tan :)

  4. brittany

I love this stuff but it is a little harsh, but sometimes it makes my face feel so soft. ( i have a lot of little bumps i don’t know how to get rid of)

How do you get lush products?

    • hi

I have a lot of the same little bumps – it’s just large pores. Dirt gets built up in them so they seem to be bigger and more elevated. My favorite exfoliating cleanser for getting rid of these is Neutrogena Pore Refining Cleanser – after one use, I noticed that my skin was SUPER soft and smooth and the bumps were very unnoticable. By the third use, my pores were invisible!

Make it more usable for the face. It’s really not very good for the skin on your face, though that’s what it’s advertised for. Make it less abrasive, make the granules more round and eliminate the sharp edges. That, or change the packaging to promote it as a body product and not a facial product.

  6. Emm

I would make the scrubbers smaller. Since it is a bit harsh.

  7. Avatar of Cindy Cindyrella

Make the particles more fine–it’s too harsh for my face!

  8. Kelsey

I would make the particles smaller, and maybe some different scents. I love the apricot scent and all, but wouldnt maybe banana smell good too? Maybe; Im just nuts. lol. ;)

  9. Ricci

Remove the chemicals .. But I dislike this stuff Im a lush and Eminence facecare fan

I don’t think you can have an apricot scrub gentle enough for your face so I would say market it as one for the body. I use this stuff to clean my hands when I’m making art b/c it’s less drying than Gojo!

  11. Wilcoa

Agreed, smaller particles would be nice… I always tend to lean towards another one of their scrubs (wish I could remember the name)… it’s more creamy and has fewer particles in it, so it’s not as abrasive on my skin.

    TAKE IT OFF THE SHELVES.

seriously.. with all of the different options for a scrub, this shouldn’t even be on the market anymore. the granules are jagged and can cause micro-cuts in the skin, which propogates acne. it would be fine if it were marketed for the body, but for the most part, it’s uninformed consumers who purchase it as a facial scrub and end up destroying their skin in the long run.

I totally agree. Seriously if you don’t want to ruin your skin make sure any scrub you use has manmade round particles not ground up shells.

  13. melanie

make it unscented…it smells so bad now with the fake apricot-y scent.

  14. Andrea

I would make it a little less harsh but otherwise this product is a staple in my bathroom :)

  15. Al

I would get rid of the abrasive apricot pits and instead add smooth, circular beads that polish (not scratch) the skin.

  16. Kaylabella

I really love the scrub, despite the abrasiveness. It leaves me with realy smooth skin that I haven’t been able to accomplish with the other scrubs that I have tried. The only thing that would make it better is to add some extra moisturizers.

  17. lisa

I would make it less abrasive i would also like to see a larger size bottle for body use.

  18. Agree…too harsh, but would be great for the body!

  19. Tekoa

It causes a mild burning sensation on my face. Cut the harsh whatever it is! Its a pretty good food scrub though.

  20. HoneyBrown1976

The abrasive nature of this product should retire. It hurts like hell.

  21. krista

this is the best scrub ever. One has to be careful, though. Just because it is a scrub, does not mean you can treat your face like asphalt…
Plus, it is environmentally-friendly, as the particles are apricot-pieces.
Lot of the scrubs have plastic-beads, which do not go anywhere in the water-treatment plant! they end up in the ecosystem forever, get eaten by small fish in the lakes and sea, and release chemicals at the same time.

  22. nikki

nothing! i love it. what i do is i scrub my face with it and then leave it on for a few minutes and then wash off. i find it makes me skin so soft!

  23. Theresa

the only change i’d like to see in this product is that i hope it comes unscented.
i mean the scent is ok the first, say, 15 times the same tube is opened for use.
thereafter, it’ll slowly start to smell.
i dun know if the pdt changes it scent due to skin or air contact.

  24. Holly

NOTHING. I love this stuff. Maybe a bigger size or something.

  25. Love the product and can’t think of anything I would change. Some complain that it is too abrasive. I tried the scrub for sensitive skin and found that it wasn’t “abrasive” enough. I am very satisfied with the regular scrub. I love the fact that it gets my skin clean and soft. I heard that it takes a couple of days for your skin cells to rebuild, so I don’t like to use it on a daily basis…maybe 2 or 3 times a week.

  26. Sunshinepointe

I have the Apricot Scrub for sensitive skin and it’s a lot less harsh than the regular kind. For those complaining about it not being creamy enough try the sensitive skin one :D

  27. Teresa

Wow I forgot about this stuff. I used to use this as a teen when it was in a tub! I think later it was in a tube? The *TUB SIZE* was great! Dont like the tube size-too small :) I guess it could be more gentle (I dont remember) but I take everyones word for it

  28. Jannie

Make the beads dissolve easily like the stuff at Bath and Body Works

  29. It helps my skin. I use it ever so gently, but a milder version in a pump bottle.

  30. I liked the st.eves formula it was ok… but once i went to target and since they where out of st.eves scrub.. i got the target version of st.eves apricot scrub… and let me tell you.. ITS THE FORMULA THAT ST.EVES SHOULD BE! OMG.. i love it.. and i will buy again and again the target one..And its like 2 dllr chepper!. Its a little bit more brownish and with bigger particles of scrub,.. it helps make my face look so clean and refresh, its actualy giving me a better skin complexion.. i was super oily and it has control all that.. and besides.. it feals so fresh and like cold when you are massaging in your face…it realy a better version of st eves… Love it!!

  31. Matthew Regard

How could you change the scrub you fools. I wasted my money on a crappy creamy version. This is a rip-off. I thought I was paying for the original apricot scrub. My life is ruined. I want to sue.
