Per the brand, the formula is supposed to "provide fantastic colour with ease and consistency" that "applies evenly, adheres lightly to skin." There are five distinct finishes within the range: Frost ("iridescent, lightly shimmering color"), Matte ("flat, matte finish... builds well"), Satin ("adds subtle highlights to the skin"), Sheertone ("sheer-on micro-refined powder ... that goes on faint"), and Sheertone Shimmer ("just enough shimmer to make light dance on your cheeks"). Their permanent blushes are available in compact form as well as pan-only (the latter will be cheaper).

The following overview has been updated to reflect the most current iteration of the brand's permanent range (whether or not there's been any official change) as I repurchased the majority of the permanent shades as of June 2018. I make a point to say that because I felt that the textures of several shades, particularly the frost finish shades, was noticeably different; they were much smoother and had more slip but were less shimmery/frosted (on average) and seemed to be a bit weaker in pigmentation (but still buildable). Some of the mattes felt like I've encountered in the past (a little drier, pigmented, and fairly blendable), while some felt more velvety and finely-milled.

MAC has a solid blush range but some shades are harder than others to blend out or diffuse, and as it does for most formulas (from any brand), it really comes down to some shades falling shy of expectations. The matte finish had a tendency to darken on my skin within five minutes of application; for most shades, I would recommend applying over a powdered face and/or avoiding applying on still-drying complexion products to make blending the easiest. The matte shades seemed to be semi-opaque to opaque, buildable, and long-wearing (about eight hours).

Only a few of the shades in the permanent range seemed to be particularly frosted/metallic on the skin; most shades that had shimmer appeared more softly luminous or pearlescent on the skin to the point where there was little sheen/reflection captured by my camera (I did a double take for a few and re-did swatches only to find the same finish captured yet again!). The Sheertone Shimmer performed most consistently with this: very subtle sheen, more "my skin but better" with having a slightly more noticeable sheen than matte. There were a few shades that had a strong sheen on the skin (like Peachykeen), though. The Frost finish just seemed to have stronger, larger shimmer in it, but the effect on the skin ranged being subtle to moderate. The same was true with Satin--some were more satin-like and some seemed more like a Frost (like Modern Mandarin).

Most shades were blendable, while pigmentation varied from sheer to opaque depending on the shade, but most had decent, builable coverage. The textures were firmer than the average powder blush of current times, but they don't have excess product kicked up in the pan at all. The wear ranged between seven and nine hours with deeper, intense mattes (like Fever or Film Noir) lasted longer.

At first glance MAC Ambering Rose seemed in the pan too dark for my light-medium complexion, but this warm copper shade sheers out a lot on first application. Off course, you can build it up to more pigmentation, but with a light sweep I get a muted slightly natural look; I am very light handed in general with blush application. On some face powders I noticed it tends to apply a little bit patchy, for a satin blush it's not the most blendable and easy to work formula. I really like to use Ambering Rose when I want the `sun-burned` look, the shimmer is barely noticeable, it just adds a non-flat glow from within. It doesn't emphasize my pores more than usual. It's one of the blushes that I can notice on my face even after 8-10 hours (full work day + commute).

MAC Coppertone is the type of blush that can easily be used to sculpt your face, if you can do warmer shades. On me (light-medium yellow undertones, MAC NC20) it's a little bit dark, but I can make it work most times. The finish is matte but not flat, but requires a little bit of care as sometimes it can apply patchy or be not so easy to blend (especially on a drier skin or with the wrong brush). The copper undertone is not that obvious once applied on the skin.

MAC Peachtwist is a warm toned medium copper, with a pearl finish that's almost imperceptible once blended but which adds that something-something that makes a blush not apply flat. It blends easily and lasts all day. I'm light-medium with warm yellow undertones (NC20) and Peachtwist is slightly too dark for me, I think it would work better for medium complexion. I can apply it very lightly to get a natural look, but since it's so pigmented I can easily apply too much.

Blushbaby is a beautiful mauvy-pink blush, very close to my natural flush when I get a slight sunburn (I'm a light-medium warm yellow undertone, MAC NC20). While I've see everyone describing this like a mauve, on me it shows more pink. Usually I go with more cool toned blushes, but this is one of few warm toned pink blushes that looks good on me. The blush is very pigmented, it surprised me when I first got it because it's not a sheer / light color, it's a medium pink and I was afraid that it would be too dark for me. Fortunately it's a buildable formula, it's not too dark if I apply it with a light hand. I like that the powder in the pan is firm, but not stiff, easy to pick-up with all sorts of brushes without fallout. On me it lasts all day, which is surprising since most blushes disappear in a few hours.

I can't live without this blush. I wear it with every makeup look except for red lips. (in that case, Mac Pinch O' Peach blush). In the winter I am NC15 and in summer NC30. It looks great year round.

Sunbasque is a beautiful warm bronze color, that would be amazing if it wasn't a little bit too dark for my NC20 complexion. It would be definitely more suited for an NC30 and up. Fortunately, while the color has a good pay off, it's also very blendable, so I manage to sheer it out somehow. While in the pan it has some peach copper tones, on me it translates into a deep warm bronze / terracotta, with very subtle hints of pearl. I use it more as a blush-bronze crossover. Surprisingly, it never emphasized my pores or texture.

I had MAC Harmony applied during my first MAC makeup session, after explaining that I never wear blush and I don't like blushed cheeks. The magic of Harmony is that it's subtle on my NC20 skin, but gives shape and dimension. The color makes it such a versatile product, beige enough to be used for contouring, rose enough to be used as blush. It has some warmth, but still gears a little bit more neutral. It's matte, but blends easily. I can even use it in the crease to slightly define the eyes, or all over my eyelids for a simple muted look. It's one of MAC best blush formulas, soft, almost velvety. Pigmented, but easy to sheer out; not too powdery, very buildable. The only reason I don't own Harmony permanently in my collection is that MAC launched Sculpt in the meantime, and that's my perfect contour shade.

I personally really like the MAC matte powder blush formula, and Mocha is no exception. The texture is soft, not at all powdery. The formula is easy to pick with all brushes, easy to blend, buildable, easy to sheer out. Like most blushes it eventually fade towards the end of day, but the lasting power is one of the best. The color is a natural dusty mauve-pink, somehow looking almost neutral on my yellow warm complexion. It looks quite natural on my cheeks, with the caveat that I really have to sheer it out. I'm light-medium (NC20) and Mocha is slightly too dark for me; on a medium or medium-tan complexion it would be a better match.

I originally purchased MAC Margin to use it more as a shimmer bronzer, but on me it's definitely more of a blush shade. On my light-medium warm yellow toned complexion, the color matches the brand description (it peachy with a golden shimmer), it doesn't have anything copper or bronze. It's a beautiful color, maybe not the most flattering on me; I can see it being an amazing sunburned shade for some other complexions. Like most MAC shimmer blushes it's a very buildable and workable formula, easy to sheer out or bring to full pigmentation / opacity. The powder is soft, easy to pick up, but with minimal fall-out. It's as long wearing as my foundation; with a dewy light coverage foundation it fades during the day, with a matte long wearing foundation is lasts 8+ hours. The shimmer is not very strong, just the right amount for a healthy glow; but as most shimmer blushes it has the slight tendency to emphasize pores. I prefer to wear this shade in winter, spring and fall; it's a little too dewy and luminous on my complexion skin in the summer when I'm more oily.

This is a soft brown with a faint shimmer which makes a great natural looking blush for dark skin. This has a sheertone finish, so this will not build up to an opaque finish.

This has been my tried and true GOAT! A deep copper shade, this give a beautiful reddish brown shade which compliments dark skin lovely. The frost finish give it a bit of that "oomph" or "pizazz" that adds a nice glow to the cheeks. It lasts all day and is available in pan refill. If you have deep skin and looking for a subtle or natural blush, this is a good choice.

For some reason, my version of this is a completely different color, more mauve with almost no coral. The finish is lovely, but I have no data yet on how long it lasts.

MAC Springsheen is a classic pink coral (with a vibe of peach) with golden shimmer, definitely a blush shade that can fit into any basic `must-have` blush color. The MAC Sheertone Shimmer formula is quite powdery and this is no exception. MAC Matte and Sheertone blushes have a more soft, finely-milled and smooth texture, the Sheertone Shimmers have some `chunkiness` from my point of view (although not in a bad way). But MAC Springsheen still blends beautifully. The color pay-off depends a lot on the brush I apply it; the formula is quite buildable, from a dust of color with a loose soft brush, to a `in your face` deep pink coral with a stiffer denser brush. It's a color that will work well on the very fair to medium complexion, but on darker complexions I believe only the golden shimmer will show. The shimmer particles are visible, but not sparkly, emphasizing any pores (the primer used will impact how much of the pores show, still); but it's a forgiving shimmer, compared with other shimmery blushes. On my skin it starts fading after 4-6 hours, but not in a bad way. The shimmer will disappear if I touch up with blotting paper.

MAC Breath of Plum is a gorgeous matte light plum with a hint of pink, that looks great on my yellow toned light-medium complexion (NC20-25) with dark brown hair and eyes. The Sheertone formula from MAC is simply amazing... sheer at first, it can be build up to a beautiful deep pigmentation. The color in itself is very natural and versatile on me, I can use it from barely there looks to full-glam make-up. It's long-wearing, as long as the foundation in itself doesn't move/transfer during the day. The powder has minimal fallout. I had my first Breath of Plum blush for almost 2 years (I trashed it when it reached 3 years from manufacturing day), use it regularly (sometimes it was my only blush) and I didn't hit pan on it.

This color must vary a lot by imprint because my version (not from Selena collection) is a straight up warm brown that is by far the ugliest thing in my blush palette!

MAC blushes are almost always great in texture and payoff...the thing with "sincere" is that it's a really boring and unnatural colour. It reminds me of a very warm, almost orange, bronzer. It certainly doesn't suit MY skin colour (light-medium with N undertones), but I don't think anyone could wear this and look naturally flushed/bronzed...

This has been my OG and holy grail blush since high school. Despite the description says that its "sheer", I can't say that it's sheer at all. In fact, it's really pigmented to the point where one swipe produces natural flush on the cheeks. Also, its buildable even though its pigmented, so I am not afraid to build the color and there won't be any harsh blend that will overpower other makeup.

The color is super original and I think you cannot really wear it as a blush ( i'm NW45-47 and it looks like a bruise on me so I cannot imagine on a fairer skintone). I use it to contour and i really like it. As Christine said this is difficult to blend, because the formula is dryer. I use a real technique contour brush, and use the tiniest amount . I apply my contour in swirling motions and it works. If you are late don't do it. To me it worth it because those type of shades for darker skin tones is soooo hard to find in mainstream brand. Huge bonus, this is super long wearing, it lasts easily 11-12 hours on me.

My complexion is light-medium with yellow undertones (NC20, maybe NC25 in the summer), and finding good a good shimmery bronze can be tricky for me. Most hyped shimmery bronzer are definitely too dark for me. The powder blush Trace Gold works on me more like a shimmery bronzer applied to my cheeks. It's coppery tone add a nice warmth to my skin, very natural if lightly applied. It's not very shimmery, but the frost adds just a little glow. Since I am already warm toned, this does not look warm on me. The texture is almost smooth, almost no powdery fall-out. The shimmer will emphasize pores, but that's what always expected. My natural go-to look definitely includes just a swipe of this on the cheeks. This doubles as an eye shadow too. I use it as an all over the lid muted shimmer.

"Pink swoon" can be really scary when you first lay eyes on it since it's one of the most vibrant blushes MAC produces. But...when you take it home and play with it a little bit, you do realise that it's an extremely pretty girly pink. It makes you look awake and fresh even if you had a rough night. As for the product, it has great colour payoff and it lasts forever, since you only need a little bit to get that flushed cheeks effect.

This blush is very comparable to Nars Exhibit A blush. While it is a little less pigmented than Exhibit A, it is still very pigmented, so go easy on the application. The texture leans powdery, but not chalky. It blends easily, but due to the intensity of the red pigment you should apply very lightly and then build up to desired pigmentation. What stands out in this blush is that the color shows up beautifully across a diversity of skin tones. I have a medium tan complexion with golden/olive undertones and this color pulls a beautiful, natural flush of red. There is a slight sheen to it but it is very subtle. During the winter months when my complexion lightens significantly, I reach for this blush a lot because it makes my skin look healthy and perky. I think the color runs more red than true coral, but the tonal differences will depend on your skin tone. Formula is very long lasting and does not move around your face.

I have several MAC blushes and I love them but was nervous when I saw this thinking it would be too bubblegum pink . Not at all! Plus a little goes a long way. It is buildable without being powdery or chalky. My go to blush when I want to add a pink flush to the cheeks.

The blush is certainly buildable and easy to apply, however, after about 4 hours it oxidizes to an unattractive orange color. It does this even when applied over foundation.
