MAC Lipstick comes in a variety of finishes, and the pigmentation and wear tend to be dependent on the finish. The sheer finishes, like Lustres, tend to wear for only a couple of hours and have sheer coverage (as designed) and are non-drying.

Some of the original Matte shades have a stiffer, drier formula, while newer ones have a more velvety, silicone-feel to them, and the latter are creamier, more comfortable to wear, and easier to apply, but most Matte shades are quite pigmented and long-wearing, though some are drying.

What's so interesting is how this color reads so differently on each person and in each photo. What looks like a pinkish-lavender on both the MAC and Temptalia websites reads more of a blue-lavender on me. I was looking for a purple lipstick when I bought it, but the darker purples looked terrible on me. Men Love Mystery was perfect. It's very much a purple lipstick, but not dark enough to look ghoulish on me. It is a matte formula, and, therefore, is a bit drying, but not to the point of being uncomfortable. It lasts for many hours without a touch-up, and adds a really nice edginess to my makeup.

The color is really beautiful but this is super slippery so it don't last at all . If you like long-wering formula this is not a good choice but if you have super dry lips and you don't mind re-apply a lot, it's cool.

Its a really pretty color, but it dries out my lips so much...and when I re-apply it, its not hydrating at all and it's just sitting on top of the dryness it created...not so good looking. I really want to ask Christine if this is a dupe for Charlotte Tilbury bitch perfect, I've been drooling over that one for a looooong time, but the swatches of these two look so similar...please help Christine!!!

I got this as a freebie in a buy-two-get-one-free deal at MAC. I'm not a huge fan of MAC's lustre finishes because they don't stay on well. But I do like nudes. Hug Me, a very sheer pinky brown, is so close to my natural lip color that it reads more like a clear gloss than a nude lipstick. I'm not sure how often I'll ever reach for this color, but at least it was free. It's not a bad color, it just doesn't do anything for me.

This is a very pretty MLBB lipstick for me. My lips are naturally pink and this just adds a little extra to them. But I'm not used to the lustre finishes and it feels a bit too glossy and on my lips. I had to reapply after eating. After a couple of hours it sort of settled in, though, and felt closer to a cremesheen with a hint of color. I think this will be a good lipstick to wear on days when my lips feel dry and I want a more natural look.

In warm, indoor, windowless lighting, Velvet Teddy almost disappears on me. But in daylight or fluorescent lighting it comes alive and looks beautiful. It is listed by MAC as a "deep-toned beige," but I would call it a medium warm-toned nude. This is a matte formula, yet it is not drying and is very comfortable to wear. It looks matte, but feels a little more like a MAC satin, which is my favorite MAC finish. You can probably find cheaper color dupes of Velvet Teddy, but MAC's luxurious, creamy, long-lasting texture makes it worth the extra money.

At first, I didn\'t want to buy this lipstick because it immediately felt too dry on my lips. But I absolutely fell in love with the colour and now it is one of my favourite lipsticks anyway. Interestingly, the colour looks quite different on me compared to the way it looks on the pictures shown here. But either way it\'s gorgeous! Bottom line: Even though I do find it to be drying, I\'ll actually rate 4.5 stars because it looks so good that that hasn\'t stopped me from wearing and loving it.

Russian Red is gorgeous! I went to MAC to get red lipstick, with my mind set on Ruby Woo. The saleswoman had me try both Ruby Woo and Russian Red, which she thought would go better with my coloring. She was right! Russian Red is a richer, deeper red, and not nearly as drying as Ruby Woo. The color suited my light complexion and dark hair...like Snow White! This lipstick stayed on beautifully through the evening, which included drinks and dinner, and made me feel so glamorous. I would not be comfortable wearing Russian Red every day, but it's sure to become my favorite evening out lipstick.

Twig has become one of my very favorite lipsticks. It is a beautiful mauve/brown color, similar to Mehr, but not as pink. This is much more than an MLBB color. Being a MAC satin, is has the staying power of a matte, but it is moisturizing. Satins are my favorite MAC finish because of this. Twig is a great color for days and nights.

I was talked into buying this at a MAC counter. The saleswoman was wearing it and it looked good on her, and she assured me it looked good on me. I wanted something unconventional for a party I was going to. I hated wearing it. I found it gritty and uncomfortable (but not drying), and the glitter was getting everywhere. It didn't stay on very well, wearing off in the center every time I sipped on the straw I was drinking through. I would have wiped it off at the party, but the glitter stays behind even after wiping off the lipstick! So I kept reapplying it. Ugh. I couldn't wait to get home and wash my face. I gave it two stars only because I got quite a few compliments on it. But I won't be wearing it again.

If you're looking for the perfect lipstick for fall, well rejoice! the search is over!! Chili is a very unique shade that can seem either like a burnt red-brown or a terracotta copper, plus, it's pretty much suitable for all skin types. Prepare for nonstop compliments all season long ;)

Universally flattering, it's my go-to red. I love the formula of MAC matte lipsticks, it's not as drying as other mattes, and the scent is also nice. The blue undertones make your teeth look super white.

I love this color so much, but the main problem is that the formula is too DRY!!!! I can't stand!. I try many moisture balms for this lipstick and nothin works with it.

I'm giving it three and a half stars for the beautiful colour. I find the texture sticky and notice that it applies unevenly. Lipliner is a must with this product. I always have to blend with my fingertip and blot with a tissue. Still, the colour is lovely. I wore it for my passport photo!

On my rosy lips this lipstick is definitely more a classic, brick red then a brown. It's very classy. Mac lipsticks are generally drying on me and this is no exeption. With Mac Lip Prep + Prime I am good to go.

MAC's satin formula is basically my ideal matte formula. It looks very matte on the lips, is long-lasting, and doesn't make my lips feel dry. Twig is also a beautiful nude for light-medium skintones, and has that classic MAC vanilla scent. Also is fairly cheap for a high-end lipstick, half-star was taken off because MAC isn't cruelty free.

While pinky-brown in the package, Velvet Teddy looks like a muted brown on my mauvish lips. It looks very natural on the lips and compliments any make-up. I love the MAC Matte formula; it's matte, but still comfortable on the lips almost... velvety. Since this is a natural color on my lips, I only have to reapply after a big meal. Otherwise, it's long lasting on the lips without being drying.

MAC Party Line looks more like a sheer burgundy on me, more red than plum. I am a brunette with light-medium yellow toned complexion (NC20-25) and mauvish lips. The color is bright and has some shine, specific to MAC Cremesheen formula. It lasts only a few hours on the lips and wears off almost entirely (leaves minor to no tint on lips). The formula is very creamy, moves around and feathers into the fine lines around the mouth; since this is a darker color, this starts looking sloppy during the day if you don't wear it with care. Does not dry my lips. I like the color, but not in this formula.

Plumful looks really rose-plum on my lips, no pinky hue; definitely looks different on me than on Christine. I am a brunette with light-medium yellow toned complexion (NC20-25), with naturally mauvish lips. For me rose and plum lip products are usually my lips but better product. I really like the hue of Plumful, but I prefer other MAC finishes than Lustre. As all Lustre lipstick, it looks quite glossy on the lips. I can apply it in a sheer layer and get a very natural look; but I can also build this lipstick until I get a slightly dark plum. It does not last more than a few hours, and will be gone after a meal. It's somewhat hydrating on the lips at first, but I also feel my lips slightly dry after wearing this for a full day. On me it starts bleeding through the day, especially with reapplication; I definitely prefer MAC Matte and Satin finishes.

I just love the MAC Matte lipstick formula and this color. MAC Matte lipsticks are indeed matte, but still creamy. They don't dry out my lips more than they are any given day. They last through sipping and snacking, and looks quite good after a meal (depending on the meal, off-course). I re-apply them once or twice a day, just to keep my lips look perfect. As long as I just dab product on, re-application looks great as well. You need just a tiny layer to get food pigmentation. It stains the lips, but depending on what you eat the inside of the lips will get off during the day. Diva is definitely my staple color. I'm brunette, light-medium yellow done complexion (NC20-25). Diva just looks differently on anyone; on me is a dark true burgundy (more red than brown undertones). It's dark, without looking too vampy. Personally, I could wear this any day. It has the specific MAC lipstick scent, and matte formula tends to make it linger a little more.

Okay, so I'm a bit late on the band wagon. I get to do that as the beauty village elder. This lipstick was created in 1994 with Ru Paul in outrageous red sky high heels and a bright red rock star looking outfit. It's the perfect everyday red for me. Lorac used to have the most wonderful red brown cheek and lip pot ages and ages ago. I wore it almost every day, with jeans, dresses. It went with everything. Viva Glam 1 is the next best thing. In fact, it's better because 100% of the proceeds go to the AIDS FUND. Why didn't I get this back in 1994? I came to makeup late, really late. Now, I am enjoying playing with color, learning new techniques and benefitting from the reviews and tutorials of people who have my coloring or have the same beauty challenges I have. This is a winner if you have yellow or golden undertones and medium to tan skin, but I know it looks good on a lot of skin tones. Winner.

This one, along with Ruby Woo, are my two favourite red lipsticks. It's a satin finish, thus it's not drying at all, and you can wear it all day long without feeling any discomfort.

Too much blue toned shimmer in that one...Maybe it's just me, but that much sparkle in an already vibrant coloured lip product makes it look cheap.
