Like Julia, the previous reviewer, I find that Patina really shines (pun only partly intended) when layered over Powersurge Eye Kohl (a pencil I never thought I'd want or need!). Patina is such a terrific shade for so many looks and if, like me, you don't generally go in for anything flamoyant, you will find Patina a great shadow to own.

One of my go-to/every day shades. I got this at the urging of my daughter and it has become one of my most reached-for eye shadows. Pairs well with Naked Lunch, All That Glitters and so many other shadows. Works well as a lid colour or in the crease. Versatile and reliable.

Talk about versatile. Is Club dark green? Brown? Grey/brown? Red/brown? All of the aforementioned? This shadow is (almost) unique and changes colour depending on how much you blend it, what parts/planes of the eye you blend it onto and even what other shadows you pair it with (if you decide to pair it with anything). It's one of MAC's terrific "duo-chrome" shadows and while it's a bit of an "exteme" colour, I've also found it very wearable (and I am well past my first flush of youth!)

I feel like Bows & Curtseys is often unfairly maligned because when it first came out in a palette with A Tartan Tale, it was dreadful. But clearly it was reformulated when it came out in Fashion Flower (the version I have) because in that "incarnation", it is a stunning deep blackened green with sort of teal undertones and it applies beautifully - not patchy or dry at all, but smooth and with even and deep pigmentation. What a shame they couldn't achieve the same with Groundcover from the same collection!

I was SO excited to find this last year at a CCO. It's hard to describe the colour - it's one of those dark blends of somewhat greenish grey, black and brown. Very sultry however you wear it - either smudged on the lids, close to the lashes, or as a crease defining/outer V shade. Applied more lightly, it can make a nice daytime smokey eye look.

Why did I ever buy this? Well, I know why - I saw a favourite beauty blogger use it and felt I just "had" to have it so ordered it online (which I hate) since it was a Pro colour and not available at the MAC counters near me. This is one of their Matte shades (not to be confused with Matte2, which is fabulous) so it is patchy and hard to blend, like most of the shades with that finish. I hardly ever use it and shake my head about having purchased it, especially when I've got Typographic and so many other dark grey shades like this but with better texture.

I am so glad I got this LE shade a good 3 years ago! The SA tried telling me that since I had Satin Taupe, I didn't really need Prepped for Glamour as they're dupes for one another. I am glad I didn't listen because while they're close, they're not the same and I find Prepped for Glamour a lot more wearable and just "easy" to wear. Very good eye shadow.

Blanc Type is one of the few remaining Matte2 finish shadows. This is a fabulous eye shadow finish/formulation and so it's no surprise that Blanc Type is a "must have" in many people's collections. On me, this is a perfect matte highlight. It's basically the colour of my lids or a bit lighter so it is terrific for blending out other colours or toning down anything a bit too extreme or harsh looking, if you've been a bit heavy handed. It's also one of those shades (there are many) that looks great and classic on its own, perhaps with something just a few shades darker to contour the crease very subtly. On a side note, Mac would be wise to expand the Matte2 range with some new shades, rather than trimming it down. Some of their best-loved, most popular shadows are Matte2 finishes.

I put off buying All That Glitters for the longest time figuring that it was too orange/warm toned for me (WRONG!) and that since I also had Naked Lunch, I didn't also need ATG (WRONG again!). This is very much like Naked Lunch but deeper in tone and makes a bit more of an impact.

I am so glad I got this shadow when it was available. A beautiful, shimmer taupe/grey that never fails to look good and is a great basis for a stunning smokey eye.

A great LE shadow from MAC's Starflash collection. It is such a stunning champagne that just glows. How I wish they'd bring back Starflash and bring back this shadow!

There is a reason Satin Taupe is on many people's "must have" list when it comes to MAC eye shadows. It is a classic shade that is very wearable and works with so many different colours (it can look more purple, more grey or more brown depending on what it's paired with). Makes for a great "one eyeshadow" look - add some black liner and you look put-together and appropriate.

Okay...trying again as my whole review just went "poof". I got this shadow in the Caviar Dreams quad from Champale (LE). I'd always put off buying it on its own as it's a Lustre finish and those can be disappointing, and this one is. It's rough textured with coarse glitter and a tendency to fallout. Hard to get it to show up and just not the nicest finished look, no matter where on the eye you use it. Just "harsh" - texture and finished look.

I put off buying Charcoal Brown for quite a while because it wasn't as "charcoal-y" as I thought it would be. Finally, I gave in and bought it and intially, I wasn't that thrilled with it because I really thought it would be a bit darker and bit more on the grey side and it seemed sort of "blah". But it's all a matter of what colours you pair it with, I've learned. I really like it in the crease with MAC Sweet Satisfaction on the lid for a polished daytime/work appropriate look that is quick and easy.

This is a beautiful golden bronze eye shadow but as is typical of many of MAC's Lustre finishes, it is very hard to get a "true to pan" result when applying this on the lids. But the colour is so beautiful, it is worth the effort. I have found that applying UDPP in the colour Sin beforehand really helps the beauty of Tempting to show up once it's applied.

This is SUCH a beautiful colour! It's easy to apply so it goes on really opaquely without much effort, and stays bold without fading over time. It's versatile, as it can be used to create a blue smokey eye, and can also be used in various ways in combination with other shades (i.e. to deepen the crease, on the undereye) depending on the look. I've seen other brands attempt similar shades, but nothing comes close to this, as the glitter does not feel rough or uncomfortable, but applies smoothly. I feel like the picture itself speaks 1000 words (just look at that colour!), but I thought I would reinforce it with my personal experience.

A really great staple shade that can be used to highlight the inner corners and brow bone, as well as on the lid. I personally LOVE this as a highlight, it really opens up the eyes. It's a great smooth texture so application could not be easier, and it's also buildable so you can wear it as a lid colour. You can apply it quite sheerly so you don't notice the gold/yellowness so much, or you can apply it more opaquely so it's more noticeable. I've used it in the past on the lid with Going Bananas and Chrome Yellow to create a gradient, and it looked so pretty! This shows how versatile the shade is, despite being primarily a hightlight shade.

A great shade that will suit a lot of different people. It's a really nice balance of gold and bronze so it can be paired with quite a wide range of other eyeshadows depending on the desired look. It's really nice for darker more dramatic looks, too. It's so pretty just to look at, and applies opaquely without having to work particularly hard. It's a really nice colour to have for people who aren't necessarily into wearing colour, but want something a bit more dramatic than neutrals. The only negative I can think of is that the texture is slightly rough when you run your finger over it because of the glitter/metallic aspect of it, but by no means does that make it uncomfortable to wear on the lids.

A highly pigmented and smooth eyeshadow that needs very little building for full opacity. There is absolutely no 'skipping' or pulling on the eyelid because it goes on so softly. As a shimmer it's very easy to blend out, and also looks really beautiful when used to deepen the crease. The colour is just so pretty, and versatile. It's dark enough to be used alone to create a green smokey eye, but is also great as part of a multi-eyeshadow look. It's an absolute staple for me.

One of my very favourite eyeshadows not only by MAC, but on the whole. It is extremely pigmented, which is wonderful because the colour is amazing. As someone who loves wearing bright coloured matte eyeshadows it's great to discover ones that apply really easily and aren't an effort to build or blend. Naturally blending is a little harder than if it were a shimmery shade, but it's not so much more work that you wish you hadn't bothered. I heard a rumour it might be discontinued, but it's almost exactly the same as Electric Eel (though from what I remember EE is slightly more work to achieve opacity).

One of the few MAC eyeshadows that unfortunately does not meet the standards I'm used to from them. I can't really think of much positive to say about it other than the colour looks quite pretty in the pan and the glitter particles don't fall out a whole lot. That does tend to misguide me into trying it out again only to be disappointed once more. The reasons I don't like this particular eyeshadow are that it's hard to get the colour to apply very well or evenly. It is buildable, but this makes the colour become a dirtier version of what you expect, and it no longer looks the pretty colour it is in the pan, and basically ruins the eyeshadow look.

Farasha is a lovely shade of orange. It goes on smoothly and easily and was a nice contrast for my blue eyes. I like it with reddish corals and yellows for a summery sunset look.

Such a pretty shade of coral. It's not too red, pink, or orange, and it doesn't make me look puffy. Love it with yellows and golds! The formula was good, not outstanding, but no application problems for me.

Gorgeous color, but a little powdery. I wouldn't say it's hard to apply, but it takes a little work. It's well-pigmented but builds to a really dark, multi-dimensional finish.

Patina is one the most interesting and unique shades. It is not quite gold, but not quite brown either. Patina does tend to go on sheer, but it is buildable. If you use a flat shader brush like the MAC 239, then it is more easy to get the product opaque. I have also found that Patina looks phenomenal when layered over MAC Powersurge pencil. The Powersurge brings out more of the complexity of Patina. Patina lasts all day without creasing on me as long as I use an eyeshadow primer, but that is usually the standard for me with any eyeshadow.
