Chanel Envol (847) Illusion d'Ombre Eyeshadow
Chanel Envol (847) Illusion d’Ombre Eyeshadow

Chanel Envol (847) Illusion d’Ombre Eyeshadow ($36.00 for 0.14 oz.) is a warm-toned, golden beige with a hint of pink and a frosted, metallic sheen. Hello Kitty Apple Pie (LE) is a powder product, lighter. Urban Decay Last Sin (LE, $18.00) is a powder, more beige. bareMinerals Future (P) is similar, powder. Kat Von D Killing Jar (P) is darker, powder. Tom Ford Beauty Orchid Haze #1 (P) is powder. NARS Jezebel (P) is powder. Kat Von D Precious (LE) is lighter, powder. Tom Ford Beauty In the Pink #2 (LE) is powder. MAC Say, Yeah! (LE, $15.00) is pinker, darker, powder. MAC Naked Lunch (P, $15.00) is powder. Estee Lauder Pink Zinc (P, $24.00) is pinker. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

It’s a new shade from Chanel’s holiday collection (I’m making the assumption it is limited edition, but it could be permanent–I don’t have official details yet, but the collections is available online at several retailers already). It had fairly good color payoff that was buildable to opaque color coverage in two layers. It had a very smooth consistency that made it easy to blend and sheer out for more of a wash of shimmer and sparkle. It is mostly shimmery, but there are a few larger sparkles in it, which seemed to stay on the lid for the most part. There were a handful of sparkles underneath my eye after eleven hours of wear. I could see this being a really go-to shade for anyone who likes a warmer wash of color on the lid; it is a very nice one-and-done kind of shade.

Chanel Volage (227) Rouge Allure Lipstick
Chanel Volage (227) Rouge Allure Lipstick

Chanel Volage (227) Rouge Allure Lipstick ($35.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a light, muted pink-peach with a luminous finish. NARS Raquel (P, $32.00) is more opaque, lighter.MAC Dream Daze (LE, $22.00) is darker. Chanel Satisfaction (89) (P, $34.00) is lighter. Chanel Cheri (61) (P, $34.00) is warmer. Chanel Charmeuse (142) (LE, $34.00) is similar. MAC Fleur d’Coral (LE, $16.00) is lighter. Marc Jacobs Beauty Dizzy Spell (104) (P, $30.00) is darker, warmer. MAC Touche (LE, $20.00) is warmer. MAC Shy Shine (P, $16.00) is pinker. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

It is one of the stranger lipsticks I’ve encountered, as it looks quite warm and peach in the tube, and then swatched, it retains that warmth, but applied, it lightens my natural lip color and the end result is more pink than peach. It had semi-opaque color coverage (you can tell by my lip freckle) with a light sheen. The texture was thin with a fair amount of slip, so it glided on without tugging, but it can look streaky. It lasted two hours on me, and it was drying on me. It felt more like a Rouge Coco Shine than a Rouge Allure to me, and it looked it, too, with its sheerer coverage. It’s the only new shade of Rouge Allure from the holiday collection, and I skipped

Chanel Camelia de Plumes Highlighting Powder
Chanel Camelia de Plumes Highlighting Powder

Chanel Camelia de Plumes Highlighting Powder ($72.00 for 0.28 oz.) is a light, almost cool-toned gold with a luminous sheen. Tarte Champagne (LE) is warmer, darker. NARS 413 BLKR (P, $30.00) is warmer. Divergent Gleaming Pearl (LE) is yellower. Giorgio Armani Belladonna (LE, $88.00) is warmer, more beige. Becca Moonstone (P, $38.00) is darker, slightly warmer. theBalm Mary Lou-manizer (P, $24.00) is warmer. NARS Albatross (P, $29.00) has a whiter base. Illamasqua Aurora (P, $24.00) is warmer. Chanel Lumiere Sculptee de Chanel Highlighting Powder (LE, $72.00) is whiter. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

I feel like this is a cooler-toned version of Dentelle Precieuse (Saks and Chanel both still have it), and it’s actually a better deal, as it contains 0.28 oz. (compared to 0.21 oz.) and is cheaper–though just as a heads up, Nordstrom has it for $76, but Macy’s (and Bloomingdale’s prior to selling out) has it for $72. (And the eyeshadow palette in the collection is $70 at Nordstrom yet $80 everywhere else.) The texture is similar as it is soft, smooth, and blends effortlessly on the skin. Camelia de Plumes is slightly more shimmery and more pigmented–you don’t need much to get that delicate sheen. It’s not so fussy that you have to use the lightest touch with the lightest brush, but it is a noticeable highlighter, not a subtle one. Straight-on, it looks softly glowing, and if you tilt your face or turn slightly to the side, you’ll see the sheen in all its glory. It didn’t emphasize pores when I applied it, but it is pigmented enough that it will if applied more heavily. The highlighter lasted well for eight and a half hours before fading slightly.

Temptalia Asks You

Do you think eye cream is a must-have? Share!

Temptalia's AnswerI doubt they’ll hurt, but just keeping the area hydrated and protected (sunscreen, sunglasses) from any face cream/moisturizer helps but genetics play such a huge role in how we age, where we age, etc. I don’t think a specific eye cream is necessary, as long as you have a good moisturizer for your face.
