Marc Jacobs Re(cover) Perfecting Coconut Setting Mist ($39.00 for 3.80 fl. oz.) is supposed to be a “24-hour” setting spray that hydrates the skin and locks makeup in so it “looks fresh all day long.” (I kid you not, the copy said “formulated with freeze-frame technology.”) There’s a part of me that often feels like setting spray is a little like Emperor’s New Clothes, where I think it’s doing something but maybe it’s doing nothing at all. (For the record, setting sprays I do like and find effective are: Clarins Fix’n Spray, Cover FX Mattifying Setting Spray, Urban Decay All Nighter.) There are some that are more effective than others, but I find a lot of them feel nice going on and can help take down powderiness but don’t actually extend the wear of my makeup at all. This was one of the latter ones. I thought it would have performed better, as I am a fan of the brand’s Face Primer (also coconutty).

Unfortunately, the Perfecting Coconut Setting Mist just did not seem to improve the wear of my makeup, and there were a few instances where it seemed to cause faster breakdown of foundation along my chin and jawline. The best thing it did was give my skin a dewier finish, and it could have well been hydrating, too, but my skin did not seem to need any additional moisture (there were no signs of dryness, so it was hard to determine if it was actually hydrating my skin, but it certainly did not dry it out!).

Yes, for sure! The most memorable was MAC x Archie’s Girls, which I do remember staying up most of the night for. I have marked the time for midnight launches or early morning launches as well, but they’re not so much of a to-do for me since I’m on the west coast (so midnight eastern launches are easy) and an early riser. The hardest one for me is the midnight PST launch since I’m usually asleep by 11PM, haha!

Springtime in Paris

Jouer Springtime in Paris Eyeshadow Palette ($40.00 for 0.59 oz.) contains 12 eyeshadows with several neutrals along with a few pops of color. Jouer’s eyeshadow formula is described as “highly pigmented,” “crease resistant,” and “long-wear[ing].” Some of the eyeshadows were richly pigmented, blendable, and lasted for around eight hours, while some shades had more of a medium color payoff or were powdery to work with and lasted six to seven hours. I noticed that the “mattes” in the palette often had a faint sheen, though one was noticeably shimmery on. For me, the quality was inconsistent across the palette, so any looks created ultimately faded unevenly or had issues where one shade applied beautifully but the next was uneven.

Pink Goddess

J. Cat Beauty Pink Goddess You Glow Girl Baked Highlighter ($9.00 for 0.30 oz.) is a medium, rosy copper with warm, brown undertones and flecks of larger gold sparkle over a more frosted sheen. The looser sparkle did not translate too noticeably on the skin, and after buffing and blending, it had a luminous sheen that was shy of being metallic (which also meant it did not emphasize my skin’s natural texture!).

The formula is described as a “multi-dimensional baked formula” that has “all day long” wear with an “intense shimmer pigment.” I liked it more once I got a chance to apply it to cheeks, as the texture was drier and felt almost rough from the sparkles/looser feel of the powder on the skin. I had no trouble blending out and diffusing the edges of the powder highlighter on my cheeks, and it had a beautiful finish after it was applied. It had medium, buildable pigmentation that stayed on well for six and a half hours.
