Pirates of the Caribbean

LORAC Pirates of the Caribbean Eyeshadow Palette ($52.00 for 0.36 oz.) includes 18 eyeshadows with a mix of shimmers and mattes. The formula did feel a lot like their PRO formula (which it is supposed to be), though some shades seemed thinner and just as dusty/powdery as the original PRO formula can be, so I still had trouble applying the shades without a primer underneath. An eyeshadow primer helped but some shades still fell short even over primer (they would still sheer out and look more faded on than they did in their pans).

Colada

Tarte Colada Rainforest of the Sea Color Splash Lipstick ($21.00 for 0.12 oz.) is muted, medium peachy brown with warm undertones and a cream finish. It had good pigmentation, though it was shy of being full coverage, that went on evenly and smoothly. The lipstick was slightly more emollient than others in the range, and I had a touch of color that pulled into my lip lines as a result, though I did not feel it was noticeable from a normal viewing distance (only in the close-up photos). This shade wore nicely for five and a half hours and was hydrating while worn.

The formula is supposed to be “long-wearing,” “full coverage,” and hydrating. The consistency has an incredibly smooth, creamy feel to it and has enough substance and thickness to it that it adheres well to the lips and usually doesn’t pull into lip lines. I felt like the formula felt slightly more emollient initially and “dried” a bit to more of a satin-to-cream finish after a few minutes (but not a true dry down, as it wasn’t transfer-resistant!). The majority of shades were very pigmented, easy to apply, comfortable to wear with light to moderate hydration over time, and lasted between four and seven hours on me. A few of the lightest and darkest shades weren’t as pigmented or were less flattering on the lips compared to more of the medium shades. There did not seem to be any added fragrance to it (smelled slightly waxy), and I didn’t notice any taste.

Deep Teal

Christian Louboutin Deep Teal Velvet Eye Definer ($40.00 for 0.056 oz.) is a muted, deep bluish teal with a mostly matte finish. It had nearly opaque pigmentation in a single stroke, though it was certainly buildable to full coverage with just a touch more (not even a full second layer). The consistency was smooth, creamy enough not to tug on the skin but didn’t slide around as it was drying down. It was smudgeable for the first 15-25 seconds but then set and stayed in place for the next eight and a half hours.

The formula is supposed to be “pigment-rich” with “all day” wear. Each pencil comes with a sharpener (which worked well), and the pencil contained a little more than average (for eye pencils that sharpen). I only tried two of the five shades available, but both performed well: they were pigmented, long-wearing, and creamy enough to glide on without tugging on my lower lash line or water line.

Spite

MAC Spite Lipglass ($17.00 for 0.10 fl. oz.) is a muted, medium taupe brown with rosy undertones and fine pearl. It had nearly opaque color coverage that applied evnely with just a smidgen of color that was visible in my deeper lip lines. The consistency was almost so smooth that it was creamy, but it was slightly thicker than your average gloss and moderately tacky. It wore well for five and a half hours on me and was lightly hydrating.

The Lipglass formula is supposed to be “pigmented, very shiny and can impart subtle or dramatic color” that can be worn “on its own, over lip pencil or lipstick” and will “condition lips.” MAC could use an update on the description as some shades are more pigmented than others but several are sheerer and likely intended to be that way. The formula has a very glossy, high-shine finish with a light-medium weight and moderate tackiness. I find that newer Lipglasses (over the last couple of years) are smoother and not quite as tacky as the formula was many years ago. They wear from three to six hours on me and are usually lightly hydrating. MAC recently updated the shade range and packaging for the range (though the formula was said to be unchanged), so worth noting is that with that packaging change came a reduction in quantity to 0.10 fl. oz. (was 0.17 fl. oz.), which may matter for some but not everyone.
