Happy Glow Pearls

Guerlain Happy Glow Pearls Meteorites ($74.00 for 1.0 oz.) is a soft, pink-tinted white base with fine pink, gold, and lavender sparkle over a semi-matte finish. The Meteorites Pearls formula is supposed to “delicately color-correct and illuminate the complexion” with the brand’s typical violet fragrance.

Though I don’t recall it being marketed as a setting powder (always more of a finishing powder), Guerlain’s website says to use it all-over the face to “fix make-up and improve hold” under directions and that it can be used to highlight the face as well. This particular combination of Meteorites did seem to have more substance–more powder in a way–so I could see how it might work as a setting powder. In fact, this season’s Happy Glow Pearls seemed to blur my skin just slightly without making it appear totally matte like some setting powders might, though I would not describe it as illuminating or luminous either. There was less noticeable sheen or luminosity to the powder and more in the way of visible sparkle. The problem I had was that if I really pressed it into the skin like I would a setting powder, it sometimes left a whitish cast against my skin tone. If I applied it more like a finishing powder (more lightly dusted), I didn’t get any cast. It only extended the wear of my foundation by a half hour, which is shorter than most setting powders for me.

I normally like a lot of the Guerlain Meteorite Pearls, but this one just had such minimal impact compared to past versions (including their permanent ones). I think as a setting powder, it falls even shorter.

Burberry Primrose (21) Liquid Lip Velvet ($34.00 for 0.20 fl. oz.) is a brighter, medium peony pink with subtle, warm undertones and a satin finish. It had nearly opaque coverage in one layer, while the consistency was spreadable, velvety, mousse-like, and lightweight on the lips. This shade lasted for five and a half hours on me but some color pulled into lip lines after three and a half hours of wear. I was able to rub my lips together to smooth the color back out, though. The formula was comfortable to wear and non-drying.

The Liquid Lip Velvet formula is described as having “rich pigment, smooth application” and a “velvet finish that lasts up to eight hours” that is “non-drying.” Overall, the formula is fantastic for those who want the fluidity of a liquid product without the drying aspect of more traditional liquid lipsticks while not sacrificing wear time. The formula does not dry down completely, so there will be transfer, but the product is so pigmented that the color lasts awhile. I’ve found the colors to wear between six and eight hours and easily survive a solid meal. The liquid lipstick has a smooth, velvety consistency that is almost weightless (I forget I’m wearing it) that was never drying and always comfortable to wear. A pleasant surprise was that the formula was unscented (with no discernible taste either), which is not the norm with Burberry’s products.

  • Haul: Urban Decay Vice Lipsticks (4 of the 5 I was missing, 1 was out of stock), Ditypque Rosa Mundi candle because I am a sucker for mint green and pink, new Coloured Raine eyeshadows
  • Weekend plans: Write reviews like crazy! I spent so much of this week photographing/swatching and then editing those photos that I did not put out as many reviews as I normally would.
  • Do you or have you kept a journal?: I haven’t in a very, very long time, and the few times I tried, it lasted for a week.

We are still waiting on results from one last test, but Mellan's been diagnosed with chronic active hepatitis and copper storage disease. The last test detects how much copper has accumulated in his liver (and determines dosing/length of treatment). Treatable with lifestyle changes and medicine/supplements for life but not curable, the hope remains that we detected the issues early enough that his longevity will only be minimally impacted. Thank you for all of your support and love ❤️ Edited to add: I'm truly thankful that there are treatment options, but I cannot express to you how much your support of the blog shapes my life and my family's life. It is with your continued support that I have a livelihood that gives me the ability to provide for my baby 🐶 he's the dog that Temptalia has built ☺
