Vermeer

Anastasia Vermeer Eyeshadow ($12.00 for 0.06 oz.) is a light, peachy beige with warm undertones and a smooth, frosted sheen. It was richly pigmented with a very smooth, finely-milled consistency that applied beautifully to the lid as it adhered evenly. This eyeshadow appears in the Modern Renaissance palette and is quite similar, but the single had a better texture–less powdery–and wasn’t messy to use. On me, it wore well for eight hours before fading noticeably.

The new single eyeshadows will be available at online retailers on June 13th and in stores on June 23rd but are available through Anastasia now.

Moon Jelly

Anastasia Moon Jelly Lip Gloss ($16.00 for 0.16 fl. oz.) has a translucent base–possibly gold-tinted–with iridescent blue and lavender sparkle. It looked like a sheer gloss with “semi-sheer” sparkle. It had somewhat even dispersion of the sparkle, but it could have been more evenly spread across the lips. The texture was smooth, slightly thinner than their more opaque glosses, but still on the tacky side. It wore well for four and a half hours and was hydrating. The pigmentation was the reason for the rating on this shade, as the formula is described as opaque and there was nothing that indicated this was different (at least not on the brand’s website).

The formula is described as “an opaque, high-shine lip color” that has “intense pigment” and a “precision” applicator. The pigmentation of Anastasia’s Lip Gloss formula has been what distinguishes it from a lot of ther gloss ranges, because many shades have been opaque, but two of the new shades released for summer are decidedly sheerer. It would not surprise me if this was intentional–they both have “reflect” in the description (more shimmery than most shades within the core line-up) but none were described as sheer.

Thanks for Silvia for today's question!

What are you not looking for in a foundation?

While I don’t mind sheerer coverage and see the need for it to exist, it’s usually not what I’m personally looking for (I’m more likely to go bare). I don’t like really dewy or luminous finishes on my skin. I prefer foundations to be fragrance-free so heavily scented foundations aren’t my favorites. I don’t need my foundation to do a lot of extra stuff re: skincare (like anti-aging).

Ciate Baby Doll Glow-To Illuminating Blush ($26.00 for 0.14 oz.) is a muted, medium-dark pink with subtle, cooler undertones paired with warmer, golden shimmer. It had a luminous sheen that was pronounced on the skin but stopped just short of emphasizing my skin’s natural texture. It had buildable color payoff from medium to opaque that applied easily to bare skin and blended out almost effortlessly. The texture was smooth, finely-milled, and not at all powdery or dusty in the pan but very easy to pickup with a brush. It wore well for nine hours on me before fading slightly.

The formula is supposed to have buildable pigmentation from “barely-there” color to “intense color” with long-wear. It had a smooth consistency with a firmer press, but it was not stiff or difficult to pickup color. From the four shades I purchased, the pigmentation varied from medium to semi-opaque, and they were certainly buildable to full coverage, though the formula itself was forgiving enough that the color could be sheered out as desired (and the powder was conducive to simply picking up less product as well). The swirled nature of the highlighter-and-blush concept did make the color vary a bit, and sometimes it appeared more shimmery than others (though the brand noted that each compact contains 50% of each).
