Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Relaxing Balm ($15.95) is a lightweight balm to help smooth stray hairs and strands that is humidity resistant. It is meant to work in conjuction with your blow dryer, so be sure to apply this to towel-dried hair (e.g. damp hair), and then blow dry to finish smoothing. The scent of the Super Skinny Relaxing Balm is a subtle green apple, which ends up drying down virtually scentless (that’s probably a good thing!). This is very much a uni-tasking product, and since my hair is low maintenance, I don’t personally have a need that this product fills. However, I do get stray flyaways from time to time, and this does reduce the amount I get, so that is helpful!

Biore Mandarin Blossom Nose Strips ($6.99 for 8) is a twist on their traditional deep cleansing nose strips, because they are now lightly scented with a citrusy scent of mandarin blossom (this is a limited edition offering). These strips bond with dirt and help remove build-up after wearing the strip for ten to fifteen minutes. It is recommended that these strips are used once a week to help remove weekly build-up from deep within the skin (which means those eight strips will last you two months, not bad for the price!). It is really important that you follow directions (cleanse thoroughly, dampen the nose, and wait!) to maximize the results. Just a helpful FYI based on experience, HA! I find these work well enough to merit the weekly usage, and they are perfect for my weekly pamper-me-day. The scent of mandarin blossom is really light and reminds me a bit of taking a jaunt the spa – not at all a heady or overwhelming scent at all.

SCENARIO: My hair is fried and brittle! I think it is just beyond damaged, and I have no idea where to start on repairing it. Should I be doing leave-in conditioners? I blow dry my hair every day, and then flat iron it every other day. It is just a hot mess!

I recently had the pleasure of spending the weekend at Pacific Palms Resort & Spa (and my mother tagged along), which is a recently renovated property that is turning itself into a destination resort within the Los Angeles area. Instead of driving several hours and spending most of it in traffic to go to Palm Springs, Pacific Palms offers local residents a chance to “get away from it all” without that hoopla (and as someone who used to live in SoCal, less traffic is always better).
The Pacific Palms Spa menu includes four categories of luxurious delights: Touch (massages), Classic Glow (facials), Polish (body treatments), and Shine Treatments (manicures/pedicures). When I visited the spa, I had a fifty minute traditional Swedish massage ($115), which was thoroughly enjoyable and relaxing. I think next time I will have to be sure to complement the massage with a facial to top off my relaxation!
