Open Letters: Write Your Own

Open Letters:  Write Your Own

Yesterday’s post asking “How limited edition is TOO limited edition?” really showed how often times our favorite beauty brands do things we may love or may find really frustrating. I think it felt good to talk about it together; to express our thoughts and just know that we’re not alone.

I encourage you to use this post to write an open letter (or two or three) to your favorite beauty brands, whether they’re positive or negative (but in a constructive way, of course!). If you’re not familiar with the concept of an open letter, it’s exactly as it sounds: a letter to a person/company that’s public. They can consist of anything; sometimes it’s merely a thank you, often times it’s more critical, and occasionally, very, very funny.

Open letters can be very cathartic; if it’s a critical letter, it can help you release pent-up frustration, if it’s positive, it can be rewarding to know you’ve made your appreciation known.

I’ve written three…

Philosophy Cookies ‘n Creme Shower Gel Review

Who doesn’t love Cookies ‘n Creme? What, you don’t? Are you serious? Can you make me not like Cookies ‘n Creme, ’cause my waistline would appreciate it? 🙂  I will probably do a regular review write-up for this, though I’ve reviewed so many shower gels before, and this one smells as the name describes, so there’s really nothing to report… but anyway, video!  I can’t believe I spent five minutes talking about shower gel, sigh!

Milani Blue Lagoon Runway Eyeshadow

Milani Runway Eyeshadow

Milani Blue Lagoon Runway Eyeshadow ($5.99 for 0.07 oz.) looks so full of beautiful blue promise, but it really falls flat.  This was the worst shade that I tried out of the six (there are twelve in total, so I don’t know how it compares against the six I haven’t tried)–it’s just so sheer.  It’s even ridiculously sheer when used wet.  The color practically disappears, and instead of a brightened medium blue, you get this sheered navy blue with flashes of lighter blue sheen.  I think the swatches speak for themselves, to be honest!

Check out my original review for my thoughts on the packaging.

Laura Mercier Courtisane Stick Gloss

Laura Mercier Courtisane Lipstick

Stick Gloss is an incredibly moisturizing lipstick that feels lightweight, balm-like, and doesn’t emphasize lip lines. It’s very comfortable to wear, and despite its moisturizing properties, it lasts a solid three to four hours on me. It has a pleasant berry-ish scent that’s not too sweet nor synthetic, and it’s not a scent that lingers after you’ve applied. I really enjoyed this shade, and Sephora carries three others–I would love to see more shades added in the future.

RECOMMENDATION: If you find most lipsticks too drying, I’d encourage you to test out Laura Mercier’s Stick Gloss!
