Chanel Extrait de Gloss (Part 1)

Chanel Extrait de Gloss

Chanel Extrait de Gloss ($32.00 for 0.28 fl. oz.) is designed to be a color-rich, high shine, gel-based that wears “for hours.” The line includes nine shades that range from soft pink to nude to brown. All but Confidence (to be reviewed) are permanent.

It has a new wedge-shaped applicator–almost like someone took a nibble out of a doe-foot gloss on both sides. I found the applicator rather springy, and though application was easy for me, I do prefer the Rouge Allure Laque applicator, which has one side that’s rather curved, almost designed to fit your lip into that curve. The opening of the gloss itself seems to make it so not much product gets on each swipe, so you may find yourself going back for a second helping to get a more opaque look.

It’s not a sticky or tacky gloss, but I wouldn’t describe it as non-sticky; there’s a little tack to it. The texture of the gloss is on the thicker side, very jelly-like, which is fitting, since it is a gel-based formula. It is smooth, and it applies evenly without settling into lip lines. They do have a lovely glossy finish, though, and they feel like a gloss–they are not a liquid lipstick like the Rouge Allure Laques. There’s an incredibly faint floral scent, but I can barely detect it long enough to accurately describe it, so it’s certainly nothing heavy. I found myself getting about three to four hours of wear with these, even the lighter shades, and it made it so-so through a full venti cup of coffee. I wouldn’t call it a long-wearing gloss, though. It wears well, but it doesn’t go on for hours. The Extrait de Glosses last a little longer than the average gloss but not much longer.

All in all, they’re a nice gloss. Not exactly groundbreaking, but for those looking for a little more color than the Glossimers and Aqualumieres have to offer, Extrait de Gloss fills that void. These also remind me of Guerlain’s Kiss Kiss Gloss Serum–which also debuted this fall.

Illamasqua Hermetic Intense Lipgloss

Illamasqua Hermetic Intense Lipgloss

If you’ve been reading Temptalia for a few months, you probably know I have an obsession with Illamasqua’s Intense Lipglosses (see reviews of ten other shades here). They’re ultra pigmented with a high glossy shine in bold, bright colors. They last awhile and never feel uncomfortable on lips.

Hermetic is a bold burgundy brown with lighter burgundy shimmer. It’s very deep and takes very little color to get opaque results. It feels very holiday to me, which I think owes to the slight metallic-ness of the finish. It’s holiday without being a full-on red. I see subtle red-brown undertones, but it’s definitely not your typical holiday red. It seems a little on the cooler side to me, though it worked well on my warmer skin tone, so don’t let that dissuade you from checking it out.

MAC Venomous Villains: Discussion #2

MAC Venomous Villains: It’s Here

According to MAC LiveChat (which I did both at 9AM PST and noon PST), Venomous Villains will launch TODAY online at 6PM EST (that’s 3PM PST, 5PM CST) NOW UP 🙂  The consistency in which this is being said gives me hope that it is true, and I’ll be sure to keep you updated with links as they go live.

  • Edited @ 3:17PM PST — Readers are reporting that they’re being told (via MAC reps, either phone or online): “tomorrow morning,” “tonight,” and “midnight.”   I did a LiveChat myself, and they’re now reporting “sometime tonight” and saying “it’s scheduled to launch online tonight.”
  • Edited @ 3:19PM PST — “The collection was actually scheduled to launch Tues (tomorrow), but we are doing an earlier launch tonight due to the demand. I wish I had a better time frame for you, but at this time we can’t make any promises. I just know it will be tonight.”
  • Edited @ 4:01PM PST — COLLECTION IS UP MY LOVES! <3  Direct links below or else search by product name.
  • Edited @ 12:41PM PST (9/28):  Macy’s has Venomous Villains up! 🙂  You can search or go to Beauty > MAC > Venomous Villains.
  • Edited @ 4:05AM PST (9/29): Nordstrom’s has Venomous Villains up!  (The link will take you straight to the collection page.)

Tips & Tricks

  • Make sure you have your log-in information/personal profile up-to-date.  Have your payment method handy or else already on-file.
  • Have your list ready in advance, that way you can add everything quickly.  Just because it’s in your cart doesn’t mean it’s yours.
  • Make two orders — order everything you must have or items you think are going to sell out quickest the first time, and then make your second order more leisurely or for items you want to think about for a bit.
  • IT IS JUST MAKEUP.  I know, I get it, part of the fun is the chase, but it is just makeup, so let the chase be fun, not heartbreaking.
  • If something sells out or you’re not able to get to the website right when it launches, the collection will also be available through retailers like Dillard’s, Macy’s, and Nordstrom.  I asked @nordstrom this morning, and they are reporting in-store and online launch for the 30th.

Free shipping codes:  Looks like the free shipping code VILLAINS is active and working, but you can also use CS106LIVECHAT (which any can get by doing a LiveChat).
