Remember when I told you about HauteLook’s Stila sale? Well, I finally had a chance to swatch the products I bought from them. The four products you see above cost me $30, plus shipping, which isn’t a bad deal at all! I did a look using the trio here, too. The circular designed product is Mazatlan eyeshadow. The other three products came as a set (along with a bronzer, which isn’t pictured, because I gave it away), the “Glow Bronzing Set.” It came with Stila’s Bronze Smudgepot, Gold Glow trio eyeshadow, Brown Sugar Lip Glaze (I think…), and then the bronzer.  Pretty good deal :)

My favorite out of the four products was the Lip Glaze, but I’m glad I got it on sale. I don’t see myself paying the $22 retail price for them otherwise!  It’s very glossy and smooth, great color, and it wears well throughout the day.  The two shadow trios I got were decent, but I’m not a huge fan of mineral (or mineral-like) eyeshadows… if it’s baked, I probably won’t fall in love.

Purple, Pink, Delightful, Mermaid, Blue, Teal

Reader Edda recently started selling her own cosmetics line, EO Cosmetics, on Etsy, and she asked me to review some of the mineral eyeshadows. I told her to send me colors she thought she liked, and she excelled at that! The five sample colors she sent are all bold and vibrant, and they’re definitely colors I’d use in a look. My favorite was Mermaid, which is a pastel-ish like teal with a slightly golden shimmer. Mineral eyeshadows work best wet, in my experience, because otherwise they just fall out everywhere since they’re loose. I pretty much treat them like MAC pigments, though EO’s are very finely milled, so they almost feel wet when you use them. Each color I tried was incredibly pigmented, which is a huge plus.  Pink is a shade I’ve always wanted, but I haven’t found this shade as pigmented as EO’s.

How do you feel about mineral eyeshadows? Do you use them? Have you ever tried them?

Saturday, September 13th, 2008

I’m going to my sister’s piano recital later on this evening, so I wanted to do something special for that :) What are you doing this weekend?

You will need the following…

  • Eyes: Copperbeam pigment (dark gold-brown), Brash eyeshadow (copper), Woodwinked eyeshadow (antique brown), Bronze eyeshadow (dark brown), Spiced Chocolate eyeshadow (matte dark brown), Ricepaper eyeshadow (soft highlighter), Urban Decay Zero 24/7 Liner (black), Plushlash mascara (black)
  • Cheeks: Fleurry blush (soft peachy coral)
  • Lips: Sci-Fi-Delity lipstick (frosty raspberry), Cult of Cherry lipglass (red)
  • Brushes: 266 (firm, angled brush), 249 (flat, firm brush), 239 (fluffy shadow brush), 129 (dense blush brush)
  • Substitutes: Copperbeam = Tan; Brash = Amber Lights; Spiced Chocolate = Swiss Chocolate; Fleurry = Peachykeen; Sci Fi Delity = Captive; Cult of Cherry = Russian Red

Directions: Define brows using a coordinating powder shadow applied with the 266 brush. Apply Copperbeam pigment all over the lid as the base with the 249. On inner lid, apply Brash eyeshadow with the 239 brush. Apply Woodwinked eyeshadow to the middle of the lid. Darken the outer lid using Bronze eyeshadow and drag into crease using the 239. Add depth to crease by applying Spiced Chocolate eyeshadow with the 239 brush. Sweep Ricepaper eyeshadow underneath the brow bone to highlight. Finish with Urban Decay Zero 24/7 Liner on lower lash line, and Plushlash mascara on lashes. Sweep apples of cheeks with Fleurry blush using the 129. Apply Sci-Fi-Delity lipstick to lips, and then top with Cult of Cherry lipglass for color and shine.
