Philosophy Trick or Treat Set: Pumpkin Spice Muffin & Caramel Apple

Philosophy Trick or Treat

Philosophy Trick or Treat Set ($20.00) contains 8 oz. Shower Gels in Pumpkin Spice Muffin and Caramel Apple. I’m not one for tricks, so for Halloween, I treated myself to this little kit. I reviewed Pumpkin Spice Muffin when it originally debuted last year–I absolutely LOVED it. For the record, I still do. (Writing this post also reminds me that I should stock up!)

Caramel Apple has that crisp scent of ripened apples with the sweetness of caramel wrapping it all up. Philosophy really nailed both of these autumn scents for me, and both make me feel so cozy when I’m lathering up in the shower.

Philosophy’s Shower Gels are absolutely excellent as a body wash, as they lather up quickly, scent up the shower, and don’t dry out the skin. I don’t find the scent lingers post-shower, which is to be expected, as it’s not on you for long. (I personally only want my perfume or a scented body moisturizer to linger.) They also make nice bubble baths, and decent shampoos, though I imagine if you have anything but normal hair, you may want to stick with your normal shampoo unless you’re in a pinch. It’s just a rather basic shampoo that cleanses.

Really wish Philosophy’s shower gels sets were actually value-driven. Normally, full-sized shower gels retail for $16 for 16 oz., and while you’re getting 16 oz. in total here, you’re paying $20 for the opportunity to try two.

Guerlain Giny Rouge G Lipstick

Guerlain Giny Rouge G Lipstick

When you swatch Gillian and Giny ($46.00 for 0.12 oz.) side-by-side, they look incredibly similar, but they are quite distinct when worn (at least on my lips!). While Gillian is a soft rose-nude, Giny is a peach-nude. They both have ultra fine white shimmer and a glossy sheen–a higher shine than the typical Rouge G, actually. As expected, it is also opaque and provides beautiful coverage while still feeling lightweight.

Guerlain’s Rouge G Lipsticks have a strong fruit-floral scent but no taste–I do consider Guerlain’s scented lipsticks to be some of the heavier scented kinds, so do be careful if you are sensitive to scents.  I typically get four to six hours of wear, with four hours on lighter shades like Giny.

RECOMMENDATION: It would be particularly lovely on cooler skin tones but still an easy to wear, everyday kind of shade for all skin tones.

Clarins Bronze Instant Sun Light Highlighter

Clarins Bronze Instant Sun Light Highlighter

Clarins Bronze Instant Sun Light Highlighter ($32.00 for 0.28 oz.) is a creamy–almost gel-like in consistency and texture–golden bronze with soft flecks of gold shimmer that glides onto skin and gives a warmer, luminous look. Though rather deep bronze in the compact, it applies rather sheerly and much lighter on the skin. On both paler and deeper skin tones, this is more of a highlighter than a contouring shade–on the palest of skin, I could see this working as a subtle bronzer. I like this best as a natural highlighter on medium to deep skin tones.

I do wish this product lasted longer on the skin, though; it seems to slide off within three to four hours, even on my normal skin, so I would imagine even shorter wear time on oilier skin types. It doesn’t dry down to a powdery finish, which is good news for those with drier skin types, because it won’t emphasize any dryness or flaking skin. I definitely recommend using a translucent setting powder to help this stay in place longer.

RECOMMENDATION: I think those of light-medium to medium skin tones will find this most flattering, because it will add some warmth as well as sheen. It’s not ultra long wearing, though.
