Bobbi Brown Black Chocolate Sheer Lipgloss

Bobbi Brown Black Chocolate Lipgloss

Last but not least, we have Bobbi Brown Black Chocolate Sheer Lipgloss ($20.00 for .14 fl. oz.) from Bobbi’s Black Velvet Collection. It seems like it’s different from Bobbi Brown’s typical lipgloss, as it’s specifically designed to be sheer. It’s also limited edition. I saw some reviews from 2009 left by customers, so the formula seems reserved for seasonal color collections (but don’t quote me on that).

In all honesty, this is about as sheer as it gets without being absolutely, positively colorless. On my lips, it gives my lips a glossy look and darkens them just a tad. There’s no shimmer, so it’s really just adding that wet shine to your lips–which is fine–but I don’t know if I’d run out and buy a limited edition shade just for that purpose! It looks so sexy in the tube, but the color gets lost on my lips.

It’s a slightly tacky formula with some thickness, but it’s not gluey. I detected a slightly sweetened scent to it, but it was subtle and I couldn’t really place it specifically–other than it was sweet. Even though there’s not much color, the gloss wears well, as other Bobbi Brown glosses have for me in the past; I get around three hours of wear all by itself. So this just might be a review where I bring your attention to her other lip glosses, which don’t tend to be overly opaque, but do impart more color than this particular shade.

butter LONDON All Hail McQueen, Bumster, Marrow, Victoriana

For fall, Butter London gives us four new shades of their 3-Free Lacquers ($14.00 for 0.4 fl. oz.): All Hail McQueen,
Bumster, Marrow (mixed for Vena Cava), and Victoriana (reminiscent of the Victorian era). The first two were inspired by the late Alexander McQueen.

Butter London’s formula was on the thicker side, but it was very easy to apply and never felt goopy. It spread out easily to give nearly full-color coverage in a single stroke, though I found two coats were the perfect number for all four shades. I’d say that All Hail McQueen was the sheerer shade, but I still managed to do just two on it and get nice results. Bumster is a rather unique shade, and it’s one of those “ugly” shades that some will find pretty, and others, well… think it’s ugly.

I like the bottles, which have a removable black cap that reveals the actual cap with the brush attached to it (so it’s not as awkward in the hand as a rectangular handle!). They’re very space-saving for me, as they line up so well together!

Chanel SoHo Collection

To celebrate the reopening of the CHANEL Boutique in SoHo, CHANEL Global Creative Director of Makeup Peter Philips has created a limited edition collection that echoes the spirit of SoHo. “For me, SoHo is a place where Bohemian ideals meet the toughness of the city… I love the tension and energy this creates.” says Peter Philips.

NOW AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE ONLINE AT CHANEL.COM.  BUY NOW OR FACE EBAY PRICES!

The SOHO STORY Collection is a study in extreme contrasts, partnering feminine pinks and roses with strong, industrial metallics. From pretty cheekbones to anthracite nails, tender creams and flashes of metal simultaneously reflect and contradict each other. “I had a specific girl in mind who is both hard and soft. A girl who discovers a new city, a new life.” adds Peter Philips. “This is a very special kind of New York woman. She is innocent, but she has a steely determination that fuels the city.”

The collection’s SOHO DE CHANEL Exclusive Creation reflects a Pop Art influence. Stamped with the four letters of SoHo, this silky powder comes in a delicate palette of shades and, when dusted across the face, creates a subtle, natural glow.

Stupendous, Steel, Strong, Stunning, Stunt, Star: strong names that reflect the candance, the musical rhythm, the heartbeat of SoHo.

  • SoHo de Chanel ($65.00)
  • Stupendous Quadra Eye Shadow ($56.00)

Le Metier de Beaute Now @ Nordstrom

Le Metier de Beaute Now @ Nordstrom

Yep! That’s right — Le Metier de Beaute is now available at Nordstrom (online only, as far as I know).  If you’re unfamiliar with the brand, your wallet may be happy, but it is a top-notch luxury brand that’s been hard-to-find–especially in-store–and usually purchased online.  I love myself some Nordstrom, because I do love their customer service and return policy.  When it comes to buying makeup sight unseen, a generous return policy is always a must for me!

Bobbi Brown Black Velvet Collection: Eyeshadows

Bobbi Brown Black Velvet Eyeshadows

Bobbi Brown’s Black Velvet Collection includes three new Metallic Eyeshadows ($20 for 0.10 oz.), two new Eyeshadows ($20.00 for 0.08 oz.), and two new (and limited edition!) shades of Sparkle Eye Shadow ($24.00 for 0.13 oz.). I have four of the seven to review for you!

P.S. — I also realized something I hadn’t before, which was that Bobbi Brown’s eyeshadows are not all the same weight! They just look the same size, so it never occurred to me that they may not actually be that way.

RECOMMENDATION: Black Velvet is my favorite out of the bunch–it’s the one that feels the most original to me as well. If you love the way glitter looks but hate the mess it often makes, Bobbi Brown’s Sparkle Eyeshadows do a good job of giving you that fun, sparkly effect with minimal fall out.
