Ladies, let me tell you, YSL has truly created a remarkable spring collection (debuting February 2008). I had the opportunity to play and test out the Palette Pop, a face and cheek powder; Rouge Pure Shine lipstick in Pink Sorbet; and Pop Stick Blush (N2) in Strawberry/Raspberry. What did I love? Oh, what didn’t I love! Here are some swatches – top horizontal one is of Palette Pop, the bottom left is Pink Sorbet, and the bottom right is the Pop Stick Blush! (Psst, myfavorite is the Pop Stick Blush, I am swooning over it!)
Now, let us give you a detailed review of the three products we tried… Continue reading →
Chanel is often a brand that inspires jealousy, because the price point is just high enough that it is out of reach (or justification) for so many makeup addicts. I include myself in this group, because I tend not to be able to justify a purchase at Chanel, no matter how pretty everything looks to the eye. I recently tried four Chanel glossimers: Galaxy, Glaze, Spark (above), and Unity. I thought I would review them for those who have only admired, but never put down the money for them before.
What they are: Glossimers are thick glosses that come in a variety of colors, opacities, and shimmer amounts. Some, like Glaze, are buttery and have nearly no shimmer and go on sheerly; while others, like Galaxy, are opaque and with plenty of sparkles. Like most lipglosses, opacity depends on the gloss itself, so it’s always a good idea to test when you are able to; sheerer glosses will enhance or add shimmer and a tint of color to your natural lip color. In general, I prefer my glosses to be opaque in color, because if I wanted my natural lip color, I’d go with a clear gloss.
What I liked: I did like the amount of shimmer found in the glosses, and I felt like they reflected and shimmered in just the right way. They have a full range of glosses to choose from, which means you’re bound to find a few that suit your tastes and style. In general, they’re smooth, gel-like and don’t have too much stickiness (some say none at all, I felt there was a bit, here and there). These would look amazing over lipsticks, though.
What I didn’t like: I just have trouble succumbing to the cult of Chanel glossimers, because I don’t feel like they out-do any other lipgloss by leaps and bounds. I felt like this gloss didn’t settle as nicely into my lips as I’d like. Despite using a mirror and meticulously applying the gloss, I just couldn’t get it to look even. At $25.00 a pop, I doubt I’ll become an avid collector of the product. I might splurge here and there on a spectacular shade, but I’m quite satisfied with my lipglass.
What do you think of Chanel glossimers? Love them, hate them? Favorite shades?

Estee Lauder’s Take It Away Makeup Remover Towelettes ($17.50)
Fast, effective and incredibly convenient. Portable, pre-moistened towelettes quickly remove makeup and freshen skin without water. Advanced cleansing emulsion hydrates, softens skin. Ophthalmologist-tested. Do your skin a favor: never go to bed with makeup on. Clean skin is healthy skin. Sweep over entire face. Firmly reseal package.
What makes it worth it: I am not one to fall prey to high-end brands with makeup removing sheets when I can purchase them for much less at my local drugstore. However, Estee Lauder’s take on the makeup remover towelette has me reconsidering my position. These feel luxe, soft, and delightfully gentle against my skin when I use them to remove my makeup. Unlike my drugstore finds, Take It Away makes removal effortless and a feel-good remedy for my skin on lazy days or when I need a quick remover. The scent that lingers behind is a subtle, clean aroma. I also feel like my skin doesn’t need instant rehydrating after using these, which I do notice is an issue when I use drugstore versions. I do like that they give you an actual package that is resealable, whereas many drugstore versions are tougher to reseal and may end up drying out the top one or two sheets (yes, you can get a container or ones that are meant to reseal, but those often are $7-10!).
Why you might pass on it: Budget. This is really the only reason to skip these, because they’re effective, luxurious, and effortless to use. If you’re looking to skimp somewhere, opt for drugstore makeup remover wipes and pick up Estee Lauder’s DayWear Plus (what, I love it! I must proclaim my new found love all the time!) instead.
