Lancome Coral Crush Eyeshadow Palette

Lancome Coral Crush Eyeshadow Palette ($48.00 for 0.141 oz.) is warm, neutral palette with only a hint of coral but mostly variations on brown.

The all-over base shade is a soft pinked champagne beige with soft gold micro-shimmer. Next, the lid shade is a soft coral-orange with faint gold micro-shimmer–this is the only coral shade of the five but love how it doesn’t lean too orange. The crease shade is a red-based, warm medium-dark chocolate brown with very subtle bronze micro-shimmer. Though I can’t imagine anyone highlighting their brow with it, the highlighter shade is a smoky brown taupe with gray tones and a metallic finish. The liner shade is a dark, smoldering brown with bronze flecks of shimmer that works well wet or dry; when used wet, the color is richer and the shade has more of a metallic finish.

my thoughts on the formula: The texture of Lancome’s eyeshadows are very smooth–soft, silky–and all of these shades were excellent in terms of pigmentation. The rich colors, blendable texture, and mix of textures gave this palette a cohesive feel.

I’m disappointed in the quantity provided in the palette, though. Lancome’s Color Design Quads come in at 0.16 oz. and their Color Design Eyeshadow singles at 0.0458 oz., which works out to be $263/oz. and $371/oz. respectively. This palette is $340/oz., which makes it more expensive ($48 vs. $42) with less product (0.141 oz. vs. 0.16 oz) than the Color Design Quads.

5 Brands Worth Tracking Down

5 Brands Worth Tracking Down

These brands are impossible to find, and with so many brands online, it’s easier than ever to find niche beauty brands. These are five brands that you just won’t find in stores all over the place but are worth buying sight unseen.

Le Metier de Beaute is a beautifully done line with really nuanced colors, well-thought out formulas, and full range of products. I fell in love with the brand a couple of years ago after stopping by one of a handful of counters in New York City. Their distribution has increased tremendously in the past year, but they are still harder to find in stores. My favorite products are their blushes and Lip Cremes.

Burberry created a line with a surprising amount of success–it does not feel like they rested on their brand name to carry them forward. They created a color range that worked with the brand’s image–simple, elegant, timeless. The textures equally in line with their image; silky, smooth, never too shimmery or too much. My favorite products are their eyeshadows, blushes, and lipsticks. Burberry Trench is my go-to highlighter.

Rescue Beauty Lounge is a brand that is so relatable. The creator, Ji, interacts with fans and customers so well and thoroughly that you feel like you are following her on her journey of creating new shades. There is truly something special about the way Rescue Beauty Lounge listens to their customers and finds ways to give them yet one more reason to love the brand. Many of the polishes have subtlties that make a shade unique–on top of an excellent, long-wearing, beautifully-applying formula.

Paul & Joe Beaute has such darling packaging but the products inside are equally, if not more so, deserving of praise and attention. There is a certain softness to their range, with some playfulness, and always enough creativity to keep the brand elevated from same ol’, same ol’. My favorite product is their eyeshadows!

Nubar is a brand I know I would have never heard of had i not been a beauty blogger or thoroughly immersed in the online beauty community. It is a brand that does nail polish exceptionally well. I always feel like Nubar does their own thing; you never quite know what to expect from them–sometimes it seems fitting to the season, other times they create shades you may not think you’d wear.

MAC Fabby Lipstick

MAC Fabby Lipstick ($14.50 for 0.10 oz.) is a muted light-medium pink with subtle mauve leanings and a tender pale gold shimmer-sheen. It has a frost finish, and the lightness of the color itself seems to emphasize it. Fabby is nearly opaque on lips.  I think that golden sheen makes it more than your typical pink!

my thoughts on the formula: MAC Lipsticks are vanilla-scented but taste-free. I typically get four hours of wear, but some of the lighter lustre and glaze finishes tend to disappear by hour three. Amplified cremes and amplified finishes, however, tend to go beyond four. I find the formula comfortable to wear and not drying (but not moisturizing–a couple of the matte shades can be drying).

Philosophy Orchid Blossom Shower Gel Review, Photo

Spring Florals with Orchid Blossom

Philosophy Orchid Blossom 3-in-1 Shower Gel ($16.00 for 16 fl. oz.) is soft, sweet floral that bursts with fragrance as soon as it lathers up but doesn’t linger on the skin.  The overall scent seems lighter and subtler than many other Philosophy scents, particularly their food-based scents, though still seemingly less fragrant than ones like Unconditional Love.

Philosophy describes the scent as:

inspired by the delicate essence of orchid blossoms, this shampoo, shower gel & bubble bath embraces classic beauty and elegance. the extra rich and creamy formula provides a moisturizing lather that caresses your body as it gently cleanses and softens skin and hair. the delicate, whispering scent of orchid blossoms inspires a compassionate, beautiful experience that is meant to be cherished.

my thoughts on the formula: They lather up well and leave skin feeling clean without any tightness or dryness. If you prefer your body wash to leave behind a long-lasting scent, these won’t be for you, but if you like to enjoy the scent while you shower but don’t want it to linger heavily beyond, then these are perfect. (I belong to the latter category!) I don’t find them to lather quite as well in the hair, and they work in a pinch to clean hair, but I prefer many other shampoos over this one. It does, however, work well as a bubble bath, too–a little goes a long way.

final thoughts: It’s a pleasant floral scent, and out of the four spring offerings from Philosophy, I think this is probably the best – it has enough strength to make for an enjoyable shower.
