NARS Miss Liberty Highlighting Blush

For the holidays, NARS Miss Liberty Highlighting Blush ($27.00 for 0.16 oz.) is designed to create “instant radiance” with a “soft, shimmering peach.” It’s new with the holiday collection but will become part of the permanent range. Miss Liberty is a sheer, peach-toned beige brown–it’s soft, light, but it’s not as pale as peach (like Benefit Georgia, which is very pale). It has silvery-white shimmer and sparkle, so the finish has a shimmer-sheen but there are larger flecks of sparkle, too.

On the skin, it gives the appearance of shimmering water, which may or may not be a look you want on your cheeks/face. I’m undecided on it; I think it’s too much on my skin type, which is certainly a personal preference. The larger sparkle does have a tendency to look too obvious on the skin and more like its just lying on top of it, whereas the shimmer-sheen is more natural and luminous. The way it looks almost wet is very interesting; it’s not something I’ve seen really and especially not in a powder product.

It’s a very sheer product, so I would not expect it to add much color to most skin tones but on lighter complexions, you may notice subtle warmth. On deeper complexions, I would expect shimmer and sheen but the underlying base color will keep it from turning ashy or looking powdery/chalky as some pale highlighters can appear. I was able to wear this for about seven hours before it started to fade; by eight hours, there was smidgen of luminosity lingering, but for the most part, it had worn away.

NARS Joyous Red Lipstick

NARS Joyous Red Lipstick

NARS Holiday 2011: Joyous Red Lipstick

Described as an “amber red,” NARS Joyous Red Lipstick ($24.00 for 0.12 oz.) is an opaque, orange-red; it’s almost more of a coral-orange than it is a genuine take on red. MAC Drive Me Wild has a more apparent golden sheen, as does Lancome Groupie.

The finish has a very subtle shimmer and sheen, but it’s barely noticeable–but it is there, very fine gold micro-shimmer that catches light beautifully. Joyous Red has a creamy consistency that glides on easily and deposits rich, even color in a single pass. NARS lipsticks are scent- and taste-free, and Joyous Red wore for five hours on me before it started to fade (and needed reapplication after six hours, including a meal).

NARS Campo de’ Fiori and St. Marks Place Larger Than Life Eyeliner

NARS Larger Than Life Long-Wear Eyeliner in Campo de’ Fiori and St. Marks Place

NARS Holiday 2011: Campo de’ Fiori & St. Marks Place

For the holidays, there are two new shades of NARS Larger Than Life Long-Wear Eyeliner ($23.00 for 0.02 oz.), which are Campo de’ Fiori (antique brass) and St. Marks Place (bright violet). I reviewed this formula here originally.

  • Campo de’ Fiori is a brassy gold with a metallic shimmer and sheen. It’s mostly opaque in one pass, but it was drier than I expected. The consistency was not as creamy as previous iterations have been in this formula–there was a fair amount of tugging and pulling when I applied this on my lower lash line. It’s less golden and brassier than Urban Decay Honey. It’s more comparable to Stila Koi. (See gold eyeliner comparisons.)
  • St. Marks Place is a vibrant violet purple with semi-opaque color in a single pass. It’s creamier than Campo de’ Fiorio, but there is still a little pulling on the lash line that I wasn’t expecting. It’s closer to NARS Manon, but it’s not as blue-based as a lot of violet eyeliners.

On the upside, the drier consistenty helped these wear better; I had no problems at the eight hour mark when I used both of these shades on the lower lash line. There was no budging, smudging, or fading during that period. After twelve hours, both looked thinner and less vibrant than when they were originally applied. I didn’t apply these to my lower waterline, because the general dryness of the formula would have made it painful and difficult to achieve even, opaque color (and I’m not sure if these are safe for waterline usage). These are smaller than traditional pencil eyeliners but larger than the typical mechnical or twist-up pencil.
