Get Sunkissed Without the Risk: Try Clinique
Clinique Sun SPF 30 Face Cream 9$17.50 for 1.7 oz.) is a newly launched product by Clinique as part of their suncare line. It uses “SolarSmart” technology, which is meant to stabilize high-level protection against aging and burning effects from both UVA and UVB rays. There are solar-activated antioxidants to help prevent visible damage to the skin.
Okay, so sounds like there are some fancy schmancy ingredients in this product, right? I can’t really tell you about preventing aging or skin damage (how am I going to know? it’s usually on such a micro-level, you can’t see any visible damage for years!), but I do want to tell you about how it feels, applies, and works as a facial sunscreen, because that’s really why I wanted to try it! It’s a fairly thick cream, but you actually don’t use very much when you go to apply it. I do find that on normal to dry skin, you may want to use your normal moisturizer in conjunction, rather than instead of. With oilier skin, you may find that just this is perfect.
With SPF 30, this face cream is a good choice for everyday wear. You get good coverage for both UVA and UVB. It’s a blend of avobenzone (broad spectrum UVA), ethylhexylsalicylate and homosalate (UVB abosrbers), oxybenzone (broad spectrum UVA & UVB), and octrocrylene (UVB and short UVA). It is always a good idea to look for a sunscreen with ingredients that protect you from both the UVA and the UVB spectrums. (Check out our Sunscreen 101 post, so you know which ingredients do what!)
The packaging is sleek and fun–the yellow is perfect for summer–and the tube technology means less exposure to light and dirty fingers. The product itself feels lightweight when applied, and it doesn’t have any greasy or oily feel either (very important!). It takes makeup well, and it doesn’t leave a whitish cast when it’s dry. It didn’t cause me to breakout, and I seemed pretty sweat-resistant, too. I like the price tag, because I feel a tube should last me at least a month of daily wear, perhaps even a little longer.
Anyone else try out Clinique’s new Suncare line?
LUSH Goes Vanilla
LUSH Fresh Handmade Cosmetics introduces a new intoxicatingly attractive fragrance range with the smooth, velvety and delicious base of vanilla, blended with tonka bean and jasmine. Vanilla is a clever little aroma; it evokes comfort and a sense of calm for some while creating the feeling of confidence for others. Whatever its effect may be, there is no denying that you’re going to eat this fragrance line up… or at least wish you could.
Vanilla Fountain Bath Bomb ($5.95)
This was the first of the vanilla and cinder toffee scented products that inspired this whole new range. It became an almost instant best seller, with a mouth-watering scent of vanilla, tonka and jasmine. Jasmine can be calming to the nerves and warming to the emotions, helping produce feelings of confidence. It’s also a highly effective balm and tonic for dry and sensitive skin. Blended with the vanilla and tonka beans, the scent is reminiscent of burnt caramel and it’s topped off with a vanilla pod … absolutely delicious!
Vanilla Mountain Big Bath Bomb ($17.95)
Think Vanilla Fountain only much, much bigger. If Vanilla Fountain left you yearning for more then Vanilla Mountain is the one for you.
Heavenilly Massage Bar ($9.95)
Once you’ve tackled the Vanilla Mountain a heavenly massage will be in order. Heavenilly is a sweet and delicious massage bar, with tonka bean, jasmine and masses of vanilla absolute stirred into a natural, melty butter bar for a heavenly massage.
Vanilla Delite Body Lotion ($24.95)
A light, all over body cream with the same scrumptious vanilla, tonka and jasmine absolute mix. Highly nutritious fresh kiwi fruit is added for its nourishing and cleansing properties; its high Vitamin C content is especially good for rejuvenating tired skin because of its anti-oxidant action. Light yet deeply moisturizing oils such as Hawaiian tamanu and extra virgin coconut oil are used in this lotion to soften your skin and leave it smelling good enough to eat.
Vanilla Puff Dusting Powder ($10.95)
Keep your skin smooth, scented beautifully and feeling fresh all over with this delectable dusting powder. Shake the Vanilla Puff pot and cover yourself with jasmine, tonka and vanilla scented powder. Jasmine is a renowned aphrodisiac, so a dusting with this powder could add some va va voom to any date.
Vanillary Solid Perfume ($11.95)

A scent reminiscent of toffee, this gorgeous fragrance will have you wanting to lick your wrists … or those of the person you smell it on! Best Powder Foundation? What product wins this category?
This look is from last week — March 30th, to be exact — so still pretty much prior to getting hit with the nasty cold bug. I did a look this morning, and would you believe that it’s a similar look to this? I was like, “Geez, I finally put on makeup while I’m sick, and I end up doing the same thing!!” It was a little frustrating My wiggle-worm (aka Mellan) keeps wiggling onto my lap insisting I stop posting and get to feeding him, LOL. Hope your Saturday is filled with as much laughter as mine has started off with!
P.S. – If my face seems lighter than my body, it’s likely more an issue of SPF and reflection with flash photography (which is why I always advocate skipping SPF for any special occasion photography!).
You will need the following…
- Eyes: Soft Ochre paint pot (neutral beige base), Rose Blanc eyeshadow (soft white-gold), Going Bananas eyeshadow (bright yellow), Texture eyeshadow (medium red-brown), Urban Decay Lucky 24/7 Liner (copper penny), Plushlash mascara (black)
- Cheeks: Refined mineralize skinfinish (peach-nude), Dior Coral Riviera blush (soft coral)
- Lips: Sci-fi Delity lipstick (raspberry), Chanel Candy Glow Aqualumiere Gloss (shimmery pink)
- Brushes: 266 (firm, angled brush), 226 (fluffy crease brush), 214 (smudge brush), 249 (flat, firm brush), 239 (fluffy shadow brush), 129 (dense blush brush)
- Substitutes: Rose Blanc = Nylon; Going Bananas = Bright Sunshine; Sci-fi Delity = New York Apple
Directions: Define brows using a coordinating powder shadow applied with the 266 brush. Apply Soft Ochre paint pot all over the lid as the base. On the inner lid, apply Rose Blanc eyeshadow using the 239. Apply Going Bananas eyeshadow to the middle of the lid. Darken the outer lid using Texture eyeshadow using the 239. Darken crease with Texture eyeshadow using the 226. Sweep Rose Blanc eyeshadow underneath the brow bone to highlight. Finish with Urban Decay Lucky Liner on lower lash line, and Plushlash mascara on lashes. Sweep apples of cheeks with Refined mineralize skinfinish using the 129, then highlight with Dior Coral Riviera blush with the 188. Apply Sci fi Delity lipstick to lips, and then top with Chanel Candy Glow Aqualumiere Gloss for color and shine.
