Tarina Tarantino Eyelicity Glitter Eyeliner

Tarina Tarantino Eyelicity Glitter Eyeliner
Tarina Tarantino Eyelicity Glitter Eyelines

Tarina Tarantino Eyelicity Glitter Eyeliner ($16.00 for 0.17 oz.) is supposed to deliver “smooth color payoff and excellent coverage” that is smudge-proof. It comes in three shades: Glitter Mist (micro iridescent pearl glitter), Magic Mirror (micro silver glitter), and Black Diamond (black liner with iridescent glitter).

  • Glitter Mist is a mix of iridescent pink, white, and silver glitter that’s more sheer than opaque. There’s lots of shimmer, but it doesn’t deliver a solid line of color. The glitter almost looks like flakies.
  • Magic Mirror is a gray and silver mix of glitter; it’s surprisingly not metallic–it’s a much darker gray/silver than your typical foil-like silver.
  • Black Diamond is a black liquid eyeliner with multi-colored glitter–I saw mostly green, blue, and silver.

The first two are more layering shades than ones to wear individually, though Magic Mirror could be worn alone, it doesn’t have quite the same oomph as Black Diamond does when worn alone. Black Diamond definitely has enough of a color base to be used alone, but it’s not as opaque as most black liquid eyeliners. I’ve been liking these more layered over my favorite eyeliners for added sparkle. You can also apply it over mascara, if you should so desire!

The applicator is thin, but the eyeliner can be a little thick, so I prefer to use a separate eyeliner brush (like the 208), especially since I applied it to the lower lash line.  Those with more experience with thin, liquid eyeliner brushes should find this suitable; it feels and looks much like the multitude of others do.  It’s not too long or floppy, and it’s very thin, so precision is possible.

It has a longer drying time (but still under a minute), which is more a minus than it is a plus. Once it dries, though, it didn’t budge. It will peel off if you pick at it (say you swatched it on your arm), but it’s not going anywhere with water (or tears!) or through regular day wear. I didn’t find glitter all over my cheeks or anything like that after wearing it for twelve hours.

Guerlain Voilette de Madame (101) Rouge Automatique Lipstick

Guerlain Voilette de Madame (101) Rouge Automatique Lipstick ($35.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a rosy pink with a neutral vibe. It delivers mostly opaque color coverage (my lip freckle is just barely peeking out). This is a soft, everyday kind of shade–it will instantly wake up your face, because it’s natural with enough pinkness to add a little extra color to your pout (unless you have more naturally pigmented lips, in which case, this may not do much for you!). It has a natural shine, and the texture is very creamy and soft. Chanel Jersey Rose is several shades lighter. Shiseido PK 327 is pinker and lighter, as is Cle de Peau #124. The color reminded me more of Guerlain Gentiane without the shimmer.

Rouge Automatique is very comparable to the Rouge G formula, and the differences are minute, though they are there. This is an excellent formula regardless of that comparison, though, because it’s creamy enough to glide on but not so creamy that the color slips around, comfortable to wear, and keeps lips feeling hydrated, too. For more packaging photos, please see this post. My lips are always happy when a Rouge Automatique is on the swatching docket! The wear on these ranges from four to eight hours, with darker shades leaning more towards six to eight; a shade like Voilette de Madame wears for four to five hours.

Estee Lauder Cyber Silver Pure Color Gelee Powder Eyeshadow

Estee Lauder Cyber Silver Pure Color Gelee Powder Eyeshadow ($24.00 for 0.03 oz.) is a dark silver-shimmered gray. It looks a bit darker, less silver (and certainly less metallic) when applied dry compared to when it is applied wet, where the metallic sheen and therefore silver nature of the hue comes through much more. Either way, though, the color payoff is tops. The shade reminded me of Dior Smoking Blue, but this is more metallic. It’s a little lighter compared to Bobbi Brown Silver and Urban Decay S&M.

Of the three I tried, I thought Cyber Silver had the most depth, and it applied really smoothly both wet and dry. It wears for around six hours without a base when applied dry but reaches eight hours when applied dry; there were no wear issues if used with an eyeshadow base. The texture feels almost like a baked eyeshadow but with a much smoother feel and the product holds together infinitely better.

Holiday Gift Guide: Brazil Edition

Here in Brazil, our Christmas is spent among beaches, swimming, and most importantly, among the people we love. Exchanging gifts is a sign of affection with everyone.  I’m happy to share with you some of the most interesting and beautiful holiday kits from my favorite Brazilian brands this season.

The Contém 1 grama released several kits with sets ranging from small travel bags to makeup palettes with shadows, blushes, applicators. Christmas, for me, is a solemn moment, so I suggest the Kit Glam (R$ 88,00), which is has appropriate colors for night use and, beyond the shadows, also includes a great black mascara. The value of the kit is good–it’s better to buy the set than the products separately.

To stay smelling nice, O Boticário launched kits for men, women, children and teens, with one prettier than the last!  For the most value, I really enjoyed the Portinari Kit (R$148,00) for men, which comes with deo cologne, soap and nail care instruments. The Lily Essence Kit (R$ 199,00) contains my favorite Brazilian eau de parfum for women.  For that person we want to gift, but we cannot spend too much, there are some beautiful bath sets that are good, with several fragrances that start at R$ 13,90.

Finally, a brand in southern Brazil, which is a network of pharmacies, the Panvel. It has fragrant and moisturizing creams, makeup, and soft brushes all with very good prices! It is impossible to resist. Whenever I go to Panvel, I can’t get out of there without something. It has a travel brush kit (R$ 19,90) generously sized, as well as a pretty-in-pink (and super soft) kabuki for only R$ 19,00.

Do you have any favorite Brazilian gifts to give this year?

Dior Spring 2012: Garden Party Collection

“After women, flowers are the most heavenly creation.” — Christian Dior

Christian Dior grew up in Granville, on the cliffs of Normandy, in a house buffeted by strong winds, and seemingly unsuited to the creation of a garden. However, the young man’s creative strength and relentless hard work defied nature, and today one can still admire the garden in bloom and in particular, the fantastic rose garden planted with his own hands.

Christian Dior also loved the excitement of parties, and often hosted the aptly named “Grand Balls of the Century” with enchanted beauties from the Normandy coast and Paris alike. The theme of the festive garden is still alive today throughout many Dior creations. The Dior spring color collection is inspired by Dior’s fantastic garden.
