MAC Surf Baby: Lipsticks

MAC Surf Baby Lipstick ($15.50 for 0.10 oz.) includes four shades: Bust Out! (dirty mid-tone violet), Hibiscus (bright orange coral), Mocha (peachy yellow-brown), and Naturally Eccentric (creamy white nude). Mocha is permanent and Naturally Eccentric (Naturally Eccentric, ’05) is a repromote.

  • Bust Out! is a semi-sheer to semi-opaque pinked purple with a lustre finish. It’s darker and less glossy compared to Playtime (Quite Cute, ’11). It’s darker, purpler, less fuchsia in comparison to Style Curve (Stylishly Yours, ’10). It seems a little pinker than Up the Amp (permanent).
  • Hibiscus is a brightened, medium-dark red-coral with soft gold shimmer. It has a cremesheen finish.  It’s like a richer, deep version of Viva Glam Cyndi.  It’s a little redder than Coral Polyp (Dame Edna, ’08). It’s a touch less bright than Toxic Tale, and the finish makes it appear a little different, too.
  • Mocha is a warm, medium-dark brown with yellow undertones. It has a satin finish, so the coverage is really opaque and the finisy very creamy.
  • Naturally Eccentric is a semi-opaque, really light nude which leans a little pink on me. It has a lustre finish. It’s a little less pink than Hue. I think the lustre finish gives it a slightly uneven look that’s less than lovely.

MAC lipsticks are vanilla scented but taste-free. Lustre finishes, like Bust Out! and Naturally Eccentric, are designed to be sheer with a slightly glossy finish, so the pigmentation on both is as expected. Mocha, as a satin finish, is creamy and opaque, as it should be. I typically get two to three hours of wear out of lustre finishes, with four to five hours of wear out of satin finishes.

MAC Surf Baby Nail Lacquers

MAC Surf Baby:  Nail Lacquers

MAC Surf Baby is right around the corner–the full collection hits stores on May 26th (PRO stores should put it out a week earlier) and should start popping up online as early as the 23rd. There are two Nail Lacquers ($13.50 for 0.4 fl. oz.) coming out: Hangin’ Loose (dirty pink nude) and Ocean Dip (mid-tone creamy aqua).

  • Hangin’ Loose is a pale, peachy nude with soft white shimmer. It looks more peach, less nude in natural light than it does in brighter light. I used three coats and was able to achieve opaque color, but two coats does get close to opaque. Formula flowed easily over the nail and applied well.
  • Ocean Dip is a creamy bluish teal. I used two coats to get opaque color coverage. Even after I rolled it a few times, the formula was on the watery side.

my thoughts on the formula: MAC polishes always wear a full week for me, with no chipping, and minor tip wear.  The formula isn’t as consistent as I’d like, though, as some shades are thin, some thick, and a couple of them are watery.  Though recently I’ve had some issues with splayed applicators, both were perfect in these two bottles.

bareMinerals Purely Nourishing Cream for Dry Skin Review & Photos

Bare Minerals Purely Nourishing Cream
BareMinerals Purely Nourishing Cream

Bare Escentuals Bare Minerals Purely Nourishing Cream

Bare Escentuals Purely Nourishing Cream for Dry Skin ($28.00 for 1.7 oz.) worked so well with my normal-to-dry skin in the spring. I used it as my evening cream for about two months (which I finished at that point), though I definitely doubled up on usage a few times and used this as my morning moisturizer on days when I knew I was staying home.

It’s thick and creamy, feels rich without being heavy, but absorbs quickly and doesn’t leave any greasy feel behind.  My skin felt hydrated and lush; like it had a little extra spring in it because it was fully moisturized.  Like the rest of the new skincare range, it has a very subtle herbal-ish scent; a little lavender, a little earthiness.  It’s not a fragrance, though; it seems like the ingredients coming through but nothing added.   It’s always interesting when you try out a product, finish it, switch to something else, and that is when you realize just how much it had done for your skin.

I’m seriously this close to buying another jar, because the combination of products I’m using right now isn’t cutting it with California’s wacky weather and my skin is dying for some real hydration.  I’m rotating in their Purely Nourishing Lotion with SPF 15 in this week, so I’m hoping for good results from that since I’ve been suitably impressed with the line so far.  The price is right, quantity is good, and the product itself is excellent.  Sure, I’d love an airless pump, but otherwise, there’s nothing I don’t like about it.

Temptalia Swatch Gallery – Beta Release

Temptalia Swatch Gallery – Beta Release

Late last night, we officially launched a beta of our swatch gallery!  The idea around the gallery is inspired by something I’ve personally longed for:  a way to easily find dupes for you!  Some kind of archive or catalog that I can easily reference and look through for comparable colors when new releases come out.

With that in mind, the gallery actually allows you to drag and move the photos around, so you can make your own side-by-side comparisons.  If you’re interested in more photos of the product or want to see the review, simply click on the image and you’ll be taken to the original post the image appeared in.

Right now, we only have swatches for comparison of nail polishes, but we will steadily be adding additional product categories, such as lips, eyes, and cheeks.  There are still a couple of features and things to add, too.  I hope this will help you as much as I know it will help me!
