MAC Surf Baby Online Now!

Looks like MAC Surf Baby has popped up online: Colour & Face.   It’s not officially up, so you can also go through the product types (e.g. eyeshadow) to see the products.   Keep in mind that if something you had your eye on sold out, just watch out for when it launches on other retailers’ websites, such as Dillard’s.  Not sure what the free shipping code is at the moment, but you could try something like SURF.  There is the code SANDRA, but it may have expired already.  Macy’s has free shipping for orders over $50.

Butter London Dosh Nail Lacquer

Butter London Dosh Nail Lacquer ($14.00 for 0.4 fl. oz.) is described as “a molten apple green shot through with metallic gold.”  Dosh is British slang for money, according to the description over at beauty.com.  It’s  a granny smith apple green–chartreuse yet greener.  It has flecks of gold and green shimmer in a finish that almost looks like glass to me.

I compared this shade against other greens in the swatch gallery, but it’s really not like anything I have (not to say there may not be a dupe out there, but I don’t know one!).  It is a deeper green than Illamasqua Radium, but the way the chunky shimmer looks makes the end result differ significantly.

This had nice color pay off and only required two coats for an opaque result.  Most of my experience as of late with Butter London has been with cream finishes, and I’m pleased to report that the shimmer ones apply just as nicely as I remembered–really even flow, smooth application, and drying time isn’t long at all.  I typically get a week of wear with Butter London’s formula with a proper base and top coat.

theBalm Risque Renee Eyeshadow ($16.00 for 0.12 oz.) is described as a “dark navy blue sheen.” It reads a little more like indigo to me–it has this really rich, deep dark navy blue twisted with a blackened violet. It’s all mixed with blue and violet and almost teal-ish shimmer and finished with a soft sheen. The sheen came through more when I applied it wet, but when dry, it has a slightly more matte finish.

my thoughts on the formula: theBalm’s eyeshadows are soft, silky smooth, and packed with pigment. They apply evenly, blend out beautifully, and aren’t powdery at all (sometimes a side effect of really soft eyeshadows). I find they are so easy to use, because they apply without fall out and blend with other shadows effortlessly. Worth noting, too, is individual eyeshadows come with 0.12 oz., which is just over double the average eyeshdaow–and at a rather affordable price tag.
