NARS Fall 2011: Train Bleu Velvet Matte Lip Pencil

NARS Train Bleu Velvet Matte Lip Pencil ($24.00 for 0.08 oz.) is described as a “deep aubergine.” Velvet Matte Lip Pencils deliver rich pigment with a “velvet matte finish.” It’s supposed to be creamy and long-wearing without being drying. This shade is new and now part of NARS’ permanent range.

If this looks familiar to you that means 1) you’re a regular Temptalia reader and 2) you have an excellent eye. It looks nearly identical to MAC Smoked Purple. Train Bleu is a vampy purpled-burgundy with a near-matte finish. It has a subtle hint of sheen when you look at it close-up, but it is fairly matte when viewed at a normal distance.

Train Bleu wears a solid six hours on me, but my lips start to feel the need for added moisture by the fourth hour. The pencil formula makes it easier to apply, because you can easily edge around the lips, but you will lose product when you go to sharpen it. The color coverage is opaque and lush–much better than Smoked Purple–and the texture is creamier and has a lot less tug and drag in comparison. Of course, the price is nearly double.

bareMinerals Ready Eyeshadow Duos: The Perfect Storm

bareMinerals The Perfect Storm Eyeshadow Duo ($20.00 for 0.10 oz.) contains two shades: Cumulus and Tempest. This duo launches in October, and it’s touted as a solid eyeshadow with SeaNutritive Mineral Complex that is “creamy, silky smooth” with “seamless blendability” and “stay-true color” that is long-wearing when worn alone without creasing or budging. When worn alone, I was able to wear several of the new duos for 10 hours without an eyeshadow primer. For more details on packaging, please read my original review.

Cumulus is a subtly, cool-toned white with a soft, frosted shimmer finish. It’s very opaque, and the texture is dense and buttery. It ends up a bit like Inglot #351 but whiter. Inglot #373 is closer but cooler.

Tempest is a gray-casted taupe with a near-matte finish. It’s that mix of gray and brown that creates taupe, but it leans more on the gray side. The matte texture is really workable here–it’s soft, smooth, and nicely pigmented. The softness makes it easy to blend when applied. The shade is reminiscent of Chanel Prelude without the shimmer. It’s very similar but slightly grayer compared to Burberry Taupe Brown.

Deborah Lippmann Get This Party Started Collection

Deborah Lippmann Get This Party Started Collection

Deborah Lippmann Get This Party Started Collection

Nothing says ‘Party’ like the magnetic sparkle of glitter. So for the biggest party season of the year, I’ve created shades that truly dazzle. Get This Party Started, a set of three glitters, was inspired by the overwhelming demand for my best selling Happy Birthday, a glittery party in a bottle. The set includes Happy Birthday, along with two new variations of the sparkling shade: Forget You and Candy Shop. They’re both packed with the same unique hexagon-shaped glitter that gives Happy Birthday its magnificent glint, only Forget You has a sheer black base and Candy Shop a bubblegum pink.

I love how festive all three look and feel, whether wrapped a round a champagne glass or peeping out of a glamorous pump. But what I truly love the most: how a few coats of any shade instantly transform you into the life of the party. — Deborah Lippmann

  • Happy Birthday Party in a bottle (Glitter)
  • Forget You Party all night (Glitter)
  • Candy Shop Bubblegum pink (Glitter)

availability: Now available at lippmanncollection.com and Nordstrom.com, $42 for the set

Deborah Lippmann Fall 2011 Collection

Billionaire, Brickhouse

Deborah Lippmann Fall 2011 Collection

I have worked directly with some of the world’s top fashion designers on everything from ad campaigns to fashion shows. When I set out to select nail looks for the fall 2011 collections, I noticed a common theme among all of my collaborators: warmth. The clothes featured vivid, lush earth tones—think lush greens, rich reds and intense golds.

I wanted to capture a similar heat and earthiness in the accompanying polishes, but with an added punch. BILLIONAIRE, a moody hunter green, BRICK HOUSE, a shimmering rust, and SINGLE LADIES, a flirtatious red, all have warm undertones, which give them a beautiful intensity, but also have a jewel-like quality so they really make nails pop.

Usually Narciso requests a nude nail to complement his minimalist designs, but for fall 2011 around he wanted something bolder—a color with strength and edge to offset both his collection and the softness of the hair and makeup. For the perfect custom finish, I mixed (and mixed) a new shade by hand in just 24 hours. The final product: an edgy granite that emanated power and intensity. The models who walked the show (and who rarely, if ever, comment on the nail color) gushed over the shade. And so STORMY WEATHER was born an edgy granite (crème) for a strong fall statement. — Deborah Lippmann
