Urban Decay Honey Deluxe Eyeshadow

Urban Decay Honey Deluxe Eyeshadow ($18.00 for 0.09 oz.) is described as a “glistening gold.” It’s a rich, luxurious yellowed gold with hints of antique gold and a softly frosted finish. NARS Paramaribo is darker, more burnished. Make Up For Ever #11 is cooler-toned, less yellowed. Le Metier de Beaute Chameleon is browner, less golden. Inglot #404 is more coppery. Inglot #430 is brighter but the closest.

It’s part of Urban Decay’s Deluxe Eyeshadow range, which has a denser, softer texture compared to their regular formula, so it feels very buttery. The pigmentation is excellent, and it requires very little product to achieve smooth, even results. When worn alone, it adheres well and lasts for eight hours without creasing or fading. Over a primer, I have no wear issues for as long as twelve hours. Bonus: this is almost double the size of Urban Decay’s regular formula but at almost the same price!  The only downside is I find the packaging of the Deluxe Eyeshadows to be flimsy–the plastic lid tends to pop off the top of the compact easily.

Deborah Lippmann Stormy Weather Nail Lacquer

Deborah Lippmann Stormy Weather Nail Lacquer ($16.00 for 0.50 fl. oz.) is described as an “edgy granite” with a cream finish that was created with Narciso Rodriguez. It’s a dark blue-based gray cream. China Glaze Concrete Catwalk is less blue-based. NARS Galion is similar in tone but darker. Chanel Steel is much darker, almost black. Zoya Kelly is just a smidgen lighter but very, very close.

Stormy Weather applied beautifully–the color was rich in pigment (just two coats for opaque results!) and the consistency was fluid.  The polish flowed across the nail evenly without bubbling or pooling around the edges.  It has a slightly shiny look when it dries, but I’d still use a top coat for a really glossy finish.  Deborah Lippmann’s formula wears well on my nails–there is very minimal tip wear even after a week of wear, and I’ve never experienced chipping.

Beautiful Beginnings with Butter London

Beautiful Beginnings with Butter London

What was the first Butter London product you ever tried?  Did it pave way for a real romance or did it put you off the brand entirely?  What was the first Butter London product you purchased?  Did you love it? Hate it? Still own it?

my answer:  The first time I tried Butter London was during the 2008 holiday season with Chancer, which is a glittery red.  The next time I tested out the brand it was with their Fall 2010 collection, which featured four shades (Marrow and Victoriana pictured above).  I liked their square bottles, and the colors were always impressive.  I really liked the wear that I was able to get out of the formula without chipping and just minor/minimal tip wear.

Share your first time experiences with Butter London in the comments! 🙂
