NYX Nude on Nude Palette

Cheap, Tawdry Nudes

For a mere $11, you can grab NYX’s Nude on Nude Palette, which contains nine neutral eyeshadows, plus two complementing lip colors. It contains these eyeshadows: pale nude beige (semi-matte finish), semi-sheer mushroom taupe with warm undertones (light shimmer), cool-toned dark brown (satin finish), peachy copper (frosty/metallic sheen), muted copper (frosty), semi-sheer dark gray brown (light shimmer), brightened copper (frosty), browned gold (frosty), and warmed medium-dark chocolate brown (light shimmer). It also contains a reddish rose with lots of shimmer and sheer, medium bubblegum pink for lip colors.

Overall, the eyeshadow quality is pretty good; some shades kick-up a noticeable amount of powder, so you may experience some fall out when using the shades. Nearly all of the shades were nicely pigmented and had a soft, smooth texture.  I also like the packaging (except the pull out drawer–feels cheap) — on the outside, it looks sleek and classy.

  1. chicgeek says:

I love the size of this kit, but I’m not a nude kind of gal.

Any chance you’ll get to review the smoky or purple smoky versions?

  2. Hend says:

    very interesting palette
the shades are pretty too !

  3. Michelle says:

Do you think this is comparable to Urban Decay’s Naked palette?

    • Christine says:

I think some shades are similar (like the bronzy ones), but it doesn’t have several of the shades that Naked has (like the burgundy-ish shade, Gunmetal, etc.).

  4. Ash says:

Thanks for the review Christine! These look a lot like some shades from an Urban Decay palette I have, I forget the name…

  5. K7P* says:

I have the pallete that has the purple colors. I was so shocked when i got it in the mail because it’s so tiny. But colors are nice and well pigmented.

    • Melody says:

whats the size of the palette?

      • Alex says:

It’s very small- I was surprised when it arrived. The whole thing easily fits in the palm of my hand and the shadows are about dime sized. The colors are beautiful though. Definitely worth it for such a low price!

  6. Trisha says:

11 bucks is good for that. Plus, I like how they kept the lip stuff in a different section so it doesn’t get all gunked up by the powder. Yep, I want it.

  7. Laura says:

Very nice colors but I might have to leave it. I like palettes but I go back to my individual eyeshadows and forget about my palettes :( Its waste for me.

  8. Brooke says:

love the lip color on the left! I’ve always been intrigued by NYX… I’d love to see more swatches of their items!

  9. Suzanne says:

You seemed to have liked this palette. So why the B+? Does it fade quickly?

    • Christine says:

I compare product quality against all products – this is great for $11, but they’re not the nicest eyeshadows I’ve tried.

NYX eyeshadows are a bit powdery and can sheer out easily if you aren’t careful.

      • CONNIE says:

So in other words, these shadows will probably wear out by the end of the day without a base? Not that i dont wear any base but like using MAC or UD shadows will probably last longer than NYX?

        • Christine says:

With a base, they wear pretty well – minimal fading, but more if you’re looking for flaws than something you’d notice right off the bat. I can’t say I’ve worn these without a base, lol!

  10. Addyction says:

    Nice!!

  11. Cheyenne says:

    WOW!!! I love this!!

  12. Michelle says:

I really love some of these palettes that NYX has been coming out with, for the price you really can’t beat their quality. I just wish they had picked more toned down lip shades to go with these nice neutral eyeshadows.

  13. lo says:

    Hi Christine!

I saw that Karen over at MBB had compared this palette to the constantly sold out Urban Decay Naked palette. Of course, it wasn’t a total dupe, but there were some definite similarities. How close would you say the quality is for someone who hasn’t been able to find Naked in stores or online? Worth holding out for, or would this satisfy the craving??

  14. LustreBonBon says:

I just purchased the Naked palette last week from UD. I need this one too, to leave at work. My local mall and CCO flooded (Nashville) so who knows where i can find it.

  15. Wendy M. says:

The colors sort of remind me of UD’s Naked palette… I’d definitely buy this if they sold NYX close to me. :\

  16. Scientific Housewife says:

I actually prefer the NYX Champagne and Caviar palette for my nudes, it has such great colors!

    • Anne says:

That’s an interesting comparison. I have C&C and like it, but most of the colors are very light. These have more variety of shades, but look alarmingly warm. C&C is cooler-toned.

  17. Lina says:

this looks awesome. i’ll probably pick one up!

  18. Bernice says:

Pretty. I want both (the UD Naked Palette and this) :P
But personally and financially holding out for the Naked palette !

  19. JB says:

I’m confused by the wording ‘cheap, tawdry nudes’. For me, tawdry has a really negative connotation and in conjunction with cheap it doesn’t match with the B+ rating?

  20. Dini says:

This looks great for 11$. I just got my UD Naked palette delivered, but It is a LOT larger in dimensions than I expected, for some reason. This little palette might be easier to travel with when I`m looking for some neutral colors to take along. And that lip color on the left is super pretty!

  21. Kristana says:

    Fun and easy!

  22. Brooke says:

This looks so much like a Givenchy palette!

  23. Marwa says:

    goona buy it :)

  24. Kat says:

I was thinking of purchasing this, but I think I’ll have to pass. The colors just aren’t pigmented enough. I have super dry eyes, and I can’t pile on the shadows. I’m impressed with the swatch of the Nars dark brown shadow you posted however.

  25. Diane says:

Thanks, this looks like a great palette you could just throw in your purse or for travel.

  26. Samantha says:

The palette looks pretty good! But I still think I’m gonna get UD Naked palette!

  27. Carrie says:

I’ve heard so many good things about NYX products and I’d love to try them, but they don’t seem to be sold where I live. This palette looks lovely. However, the shadows are too similar to the MAC ones I already have.

  28. Mary says:

Guys!!!! The NAKED palette is now available at Ulta.com. I just got mines. I’m so happy!

  29. Vivian says:

i guess i wont be buying this. the color scheme and the order of the colors are the exact same as toofaced’s natural eye palette. I’ll be sticking to that one instead (:

  30. oOo The 2nd shade would make a nice crease colour to go with that Burberry nude you have! It would look like you’re hardly wearing anything.
    I want this palette!

  31. AshleyMelissa says:

Not too bad for the price! Hey Christine I was wondering.. If the urban decay naked palette limited edition? Thanks

  32. Ashley says:

    OMG I want it!

  33. ambersmile says:

I have this palette and also the bronze smokey eye and love them both. You really can’t go wrong when it’s only $11.

  34. Pearl says:

Does it seem like more and more cosmetic companies are coming out with their own neutral palettes since Too Faced came out with their Neutral Eye Palette? UD also just recently came out with their Naked palette. By the way, the colors and even the arrangement of the colors in this NYX palette look exactly the same as Too Faced’s.

  35. Leenie says:

I like the look of this palette, the only thing that slows me up on buying their products are I have to buy on line there’s no store around me that sells NYX and I like to see certain things in person so some time I just pass on their stuff, even though I like NYX.

  36. Lilac says:

Thanks a lot for the swatches! Now I know that it´s too bronze/warm coloured for me, because I was not sure about that – especially since they have a separate bronze nude palette, too.. Probably I’ll better get the violet one or this new “Winter In Moscow”, with the silvers.

  37. Hilana says:

Very pretty colours. Lip colours too. Like it! :)

  38. Desirée says:

Looks like a great neutral palette!

  39. Luisafer says:

i´ve always liked nude colors and always will…

  40. Christine says:

How big/small is this palette? (:

  41. catherine says:

i think this is would be a great gift for someone you know who actually likes an only nude palette. i however love my colors and wouldn’t buy this for myself, as i have the Sephora Color Play – 5 in 1 palette

  42. marcela macias says:

is good the pallete is god i mean you are not paing 300 dollars, but you can find a pigmented colors, diferents shades and as the name says nude… i have the bronze pallete wich is good too, but i going to come back for my nude, and i pass the purple cause i think is has 2 colors a the same…

  43. Gao says:

this looks good the first time I saw it, but than
after I looked at this again, I think imma pass it up and
wait for the Naked Palette since it looks more
pigmented and etc. everytime it goes on sale, it gets
sold out instantly -_________- dang it!

  44. Alanna says:

This kind of reminds me of the MAC Smoke and Mirrors palette. I don’t remember what series that came out with, though. I just keep looking at the browns and thinking of it. I would definitely buy this product.

  45. mia says:

how is it different from the NYX Bronze Smokey Look kit?

if i were to get either one, which would you recommend?

  46. Kelsie says:

    How can I purchase it?

  47. sammy says:

i luv it and i want it

  48. Cassidey says:

I was wondering if you thought this would be pigmented enough for my nc40-42 skin…i will definitely be using a primer. Thanks!

  49. Jenny says:

wow I am so glad I came across this because I am considering purchasing a palette from NYX. Though I am stuck in a hard decision because I have been hearing about this huge palette from Coastel Scents. But I am a little weary on purchasing CS because it is extremely cheap. These colors look amazing. And for such a good price not too cheap not too expensive.
