NYX Rose Lipstick
NYX Rose Lipstick

NYX Rose Lipstick

NYX Rose Round Lipstick ($4.00 for 0.14 oz.) is an ultra frosted rosy pink with lighter rose shimmer. This is one of the frostiest lipsticks I can remember trying. MAC Whirls & Twirls has a similar frost level, but it’s sheerer (and the colors do not compare). Revlon Carnation is pinker, darker. Rimmel Dizzy is pinker, less frosted. MAC Hot Gossip is warmer, lighter.

The color coverage is mostly opaque, but because of the high level of frost present in the formula, it is very dry and difficult to apply. It does not want to slide on, so the color deposits unevenly and the shimmer tends to look chunky. I found this particular shade to be drying when worn as well, which is a huge downside. It was hard to wear for the full four hours that it clung to lips, and afterward, I really had to race for the lip balm to rehydrate my lips!

D+
The formula of this shade needs help--if you apply balm underneath or have a hydrating gloss on top, it's workable, but it's not a pleasant shade to wear on its own.

  1. I actually quite like frosty lipstick and this color is very pretty.

    Too bad it’s drying.

  2. Kristen

That’s unfortunate. The color looks extremely pretty on you, and I normally cannot stand frosty lip sticks.

This is the newly reformulated Rose from Nyx. The previous one was a lovely red pink shade that was my go to lipstick for years.

Just in case I wasn’t clear. The previous version of Rose was more of a cream finish. I was so sad when I ordered another one only to find this gritty frosty un-hot mess.

Even your D+ swatches look nice!

  6. ugh, I hate this lipstick, I bought it based on NYX’s online swatch and it feels horrible and looks horrible… it hugs every wrinkle and bit of dry skin on my lips :(

    it’s beautiful in the tube!

  8. Too bad the formula sucks, it is a gorgeous colour otherwise.

It is too bad that the formula is very drying – the rose color is really pretty. I’d love to know what blush you’re wearing with it.

Such a shame. It looks so pretty in the tube!

A decent drugstore dupe would probably be Verve from Covergirl’s Lip Perfection collection, but it’s definitely a shade or two lighter than this. More comfortable, though.

  11. Wow. In the closeup swatch, you can really see sheer patches and settling into lines on your upper lip.

The lipstick has such a cool marble-like pattern! That’s awesome. Color is also pretty! I love how cheap their lipsticks are :D

  13. Aw, man. That’s too bad – it looks beautiful. But that’s why Temptalia is so great – you’re doing the test work so we can keep those extra four dollars in our pockets. Thanks Christine!!!

Such a shame since it’s such a gorgeous color.

  15. This color is really pretty, it has a kind of 60’s sci-fi look to it! Too bad about the drying formula… That would NOT work for me!

The EXACT same thing happened with Vitamin NYX lipstick. Too frosty to even work with. Mac’s frosts are wearable, but that one was not. Seriously, do not purchase that lipstick (Vitamin).

  17. It looks great from a distance….upclose not so much. Disappointing.

did anyone hear about the FDA..THIS past week reporting LEAD IN lipsticks and they have all the brands listed..that have way over the amounts of lead in them…REVLON, LOREAL’,MAYBELINE…ARE THE MAIN ONES BUT THEIRS MORE…..i dont buy or test those brands…so…heads up!

  19. It looks so beautiful in the tube. All swirly and frosty.
