Who knew NARS could do opaque lipgloss?

NARS Strawberry Fields Lip Gloss ($24.00 for 0.28 oz.) is a richly pigmented, near-opaque shade of deep strawberry pink (but I almost want to call it raspberry–the product name makes me want to stay on track, though). It’s the most pigmented lip gloss I’ve ever tried by NARS–and I’m really quite (pleasantly) surprised by it.

Of course, not every lip gloss needs to be opaque, and there is certainly a time and place for even the sheerest glosses. I’ve just come to accept that NARS glosses are generally sheer and that’s that. Strawberry Fields is a dominating shade in comparison to the NARS range. It’s bold and bright without being too much; it will give your lips definition and zero in the focus to them, but it’s not a traffic-stopping shade.

I got about three hours of wear this shade, and then a slight stain that wore on for another hour or two. It was scent- and taste-free (not even a hint of waxiness/plastic!). I do like NARS glosses for their moisturizing properties, too. Though $24 may seem steep for a lip gloss, NARS delivers much more than the average lip gloss does–0.28 oz.–which makes them as expensive (by the ounce) as MAC lipglasses.

  • Product: 30/30
  • Value: 9/10
  • Ease of Use: 4/5
  • Packaging: 4/5

RECOMMENDATION: NARS is really stepping it up with their fall collection from the select pieces I’ve tried so far. If you dig opaque lip glosses and have been looking for something in a deep pink shade, Strawberry Fields may be something to check out.

this is so so SO beautiful! I’m not sure which to get dior serum de rouge in ruby or raspberry (i need to swatch in person) or this! either will be a treat so both isn’t an option. I hope if i try this it looks as good on me!

  2. lameka says:

    I love this!!!

  3. Arantzazu says:

    Fabulous colour!! Really beautiful!
I have one question… In the photo, which pencil/eyeliner (green olive) are you wearing on the waterline?
    Thanks!

  4. Steph says:

Wow, that’s super pretty. Now I’m interested and I love me some Nars.

  5. Virginie says:

    i like it !!!

  6. Kelli says:

Ooo, I love this color! Do you think it would show up as bright on more pigmented lips?

  7. Hilana says:

How pretty do you look with that green liner! Lovely, Christine!
This however, is not a gloss I would get for myself. I either talk too much or drink/eat too much, because a gloss usually last me about 20 minutes before it’s all gone! :)

  8. livnzoe says:

    looks great on you christine!

  9. Siledhel says:

    Lovely shade
And I’m very interested on that shade under your eyes… looks preety

Christine, when are you planning on starting the fall season series???
I’m looking forward for it =D

  10. Keener says:

I’m in love… will definitely try it out. I was looking at Nars lipglosses yesterday and didn’t feel compelled to pick anything up. I think it was because I was comparing each of them to the awesomeness of Greek Holiday. I just started wearing it after getting it last year and it’s very pretty, especially when the sunlight hits my lips.

  11. Desirée says:

    I love this color!

  12. Jennifer says:

I’d definitely call that one a raspberry! Lovely shade either way, though.

    • Andy says:

Yeah, but Strawberry Fields sounds better than Raspberry Fields, super pretty Christine! Reminds me of Strawberry Fields Forever by the Beatles. :)

Great shade – I will likely check it out! : )

This lip gloss looks amazing on you! Keep up the good work.

  16. Anna says:

I’m gonna agree, it def looks more raspberry! but ah, it’s fruit colored, close enough

  17. Rebecca says:

this is interesting and makes me want to go to sephora and swatch NARS lipglosses! The lipgloss in the container looks so dark, but on your lips it looks really vibrant. Love it!

  26. Margie says:

Gorgeous! Especially with that light green eyeliner, Christine:)

  27. Deb says:

The color is gorgeous! There’s so much pink in the berry that it would probably work on paler skin, too!

  28. ace says:

that’s such a pretty color on you!! i love red/strawberry/raspberry lip glosses, so i might have a look (and knowing me, end up buying it…

  29. KellyK. says:

wow, that is so pretty on you!

  30. Erin says:

I’m gonna get my hands on that gloss. Any opaque gloss with no shimmer/shine is a-okay with me!!!

  31. Leenie says:

Pretty lip gloss, I’m still trying to get to the mac store for that purple lipstick that came out in the groove collection

  32. nicci says:

wow, this almost looks kind of red. I will have to see at the counter to see what it looks like on myself…

  33. Mia says:

this is definitely more raspberry than strawberry lol

  34. Becky says:

Oh wow! This color looks great on you! I love it!!

  35. lia says:

is this going to be LE?

  36. Lisa says:

Reminds me of Illamasqua Petulant lipgloss… love the shade. Funny how it looks so dark in the tube but applies so brightly.

  37. Darrien says:

This is super pretty, I am for sure going to pick this one up. It looks more raspberry which I love.

  38. Melissa says:

    Whoa… *gets out her wallet*

I need this right now. Wonderful color!

  39. Tiffany says:

wow, it looks like a completely different color in the tube!

  40. Diligent Shopper says:

dolce vita is also one of my fav nars lip glosses because it’s so opaque. I must try this new one too. :)

  41. Natalie says:

Gorgeous shade. I think I’m moving on from my Orgasm lipgloss to something new!

  42. Suzy R says:

I love it! I want it! Gotta have it! What a great color! And I love NARS! :)

  43. Shanda says:

this color is Beautiful! Will definitely have to get!

  44. Marie says:

I really like this gloss, because it seems so pigmented and it would compliment my skin tone well. I have a preference for highly pigmented lipglosses from Nars, like Dolce Vita or Bloodwork.

This shade looks really good on you, Christine. :)

    • Christine says:

Thank you, Marie! I will have to check out Dolce Vita & Bloodwork!

      • Marie says:

        You’re welcome! :)

I can totally understand why some people can be disappointed in the brand. Unless you swatch the products (or check temptalia for swatches :p), you can’t know if one product is sheer or pigmented. They should specify it in their products’ description.

Maybe you can also try the lip stain glosses (more like liquid lipstick actually). But it’s a hit or miss. It stays put on me; it just doesn’t on my sister. :p I have Sayonara btw.

        Wow, I’m chatty. ^^

  45. inaya says:

am i pushing my luck when i ask for a MAC dupe?

  46. serene says:

A winning colour! *notes down on shopping list*

  47. Kat says:

    That’s a pretty pink colour!

  48. Helena says:

It’s beautiful. Really does bring fruit to mind. Would definitely consider it if I had more money and it were cheaper, ha ha.

  49. ChickAdvisor says:

I just tried Strawberry Fields on today and it’s incredibly pigmented! It’s such a pretty colour and applied lightly, works great as a stain too! The lipgloss looks so good on you! :)

  50. Madison says:

do you have any plans on trying the douceur blush?

  51. Nessa says:

ooohhh!! I like!!! b/c it leaves a stain.. and it’s a plus that it’s name is the same as the Beatles’ song which is on my top 10 favorite songs..

  52. Natalie says:

Hmmm I have Illamasqua Petulant gloss, which might be similar to this? Probably Petulant is more pink?

  53. Brittany says:

Omg!! That is so pretty on you! I absolutely love it. I think you have convinced me to get it, and i don’t even like gloss!!! It reminds me of like a fruit punch color. Love it!

  54. Erica says:

Hi Christine! I was wondering what color lip liner you used, if any? I had a very small issue was bleeding.

    Thanks so much!

  55. margo says:

VERY VERY PRETTY- ORDERED IT—LOOKS DARKER IN TUBE-

  56. Little Miss Sunshine says:

This is so freaking gorgeous! It’s seriously one of the most beautiful shades I have ever worn on my lips. Too bad it’s limited edition. I purchased four tubes because somehow I can’t stand the thougt that I might run out of it one day. Thank you so much for making a review of this one, Christine! :)

  57. Dollymix8 says:

It looks so pretty! I looked at this lipgloss when I was in London but I didn’t have that much time and the lipgloss is a bit pricey but oh my I feel stupid for not looking a little longer because this colour looks so beautiful!

  58. MissMercurial says:

Oooh, damn, now I feel a lemming coming on for both this and Bougainville…
Why must I always fall for the LEs? *sigh*

Out of curiosity, do you think the two NARS glosses Strawberry Fields and Bouganville are to the Clinique Superbalm shades Currant and Raspberry (respectively) are similar enough to kill that lemming? Obviously the opacity would be considerably greater in the case of the NARS glosses, but I’d like to know if the hues are even somewhat close.

  59. suri says:

is there any dupes for this lipgloss?
