NARS Spring 2010: D. Gorgeous Eyeshadow

NARS D. Gorgeous Eyeshadow ($23.00 for 0.07 oz.) is a new single eyeshadow from NARS’ Spring Collection. It’s a light lilac with a matte finish, and it really looks absolutely stunning in its pan–it’s this lovely pale color against matte black packaging, but the product doesn’t come through on quality.

D. Gorgeous is a chalky matte with very sheer, light color. It’s an almost gray-lilac when swatched, but it has this dusty, chalky look to it that’s not very flattering. It’s also incredible sheer and powdery–the minute I dipped my brush in it, it was like, poof! The only good thing I can say about the texture is at least it isn’t a hard-to-swatch matte that just looks like it drags. D. Gorgeous is smooth and soft to the touch, it’s just much chalkier than other NARS’ eyeshadows.

By the way, NARS also raised the price on their single eyeshadows (from $22 to $23). You’re always better off purchasing a NARS eyeshadow duo over a single, because the price per ounce in singles makes it more expensive than MAC, Smashbox, and Make Up For Ever.

It’s really too bad that this went so powdery on me, because it seemed like such a nice shade for spring. It’s not the worst matte I’ve tried, but with the dustiness and lack of pigmentation, it’s not the best, either. Considering its NARS, I expect pigmentation to never be a problem!

That is quite disappointing. By the way, I gave in and bought Kuala Lumpur in the end, someone was selling it on eBay, so it was a bit cheaper anyway. :)

  2. Citrine says:

This is like a chalky/matte version of the left side of the Tokyo duo…

  3. Michelle says:

This is so disappointing! I wish it was a better texture. I saw a gorgeous pic of Rhianna sporting this exact color and was so excited to try it out — hmmm, any colors you know of that are similar??

  4. tracey says:

i’m very disappointed to hear that.

  5. Steph says:

That swatch is awful! Thanks for the review!

  6. Michelle says:

It reminds me of, MAC all races which on me, was equally dissapointing. I think maybe this kind of shade is better for darker skintones?

  7. Evelyn says:

wow that looks dreadful! But those other one sure look pretty! :)

  8. Lorna says:

i like the color but the lilac from the Violetta duo is probably a good enough dupe for that. I have the lilac from the Violetta duo in the pleasures of paris palette and it is such a good deal in comparison at $55 0r $65 for six colors rather than $23 for a single shade.

    • Andreea says:

yeah, have the Paris Palette too, but I confess the matte e/s are bareyl touched. They look good only if used over a smoother base, otherwise they are too chalky. Might work though on younger, fresher skin than mine ;-)

  9. Melissa says:

That’s horrid! I can’t see that color looking flattering on any skintone on a person or even any creature. Thank you for the swatch, Christine!

  10. aradhana says:

ummmm…..what are the other two shades?

  11. What eyeshadow (if it is an eyeshadow) is it to the left?

  12. Dini says:

Oooooh… That really is chalky. Thanks for the swatch and review!

  13. Casey says:

    The color of death! Eww

  14. Mariah says:

It’s odd that it got a C rating! I feel like with Nars, sometimes it’s hit or miss! I LOVE my Habanera duo and Strada shadows, but omg, I got the Holiday palette a few years ago (it had a few of the “Night” colors and some neutrals and purples) and all of that was pretty much crap! They swatched worse than a Mac Lustre finish! No color and a ton of flakes that fell all over the place. It’s so strange. I guess with Nars, it something you just HAVE to test in the store before you buy.

  15. nicci says:

this might look good mixed with something else but not by itself!

  16. Alexis says:

SO disappointed but I’ll still swatch it in person just for my love of NARS!

  17. Carey says:

I saw a pretty good swatch on another site and picked one up the following weekend. Yes it’s chalky but I still love the color, so I just put a base of NYX Jumbo Pencil in Milk on first and all is well. Love the color.

    • aida says:

I got mine recently and I kind of like it. It is not so chalky with a good base and mix with my purples it is a nice colour to use.

  18. Annamaria says:

It looks a little like mac’s lighfalls
