NARS Luster Blush
NARS Luster Blush

Add New Luster to Your Blush Routine

NARS Luster Blush ($28.00 for 0.21 oz.) is described as a “sheer golden apricot.” It’s a tangerine orange with golden orange sheen. MAC Solar Ray is lighter. MAC Center of the Universe is similar but has less of a golden sheen. MAC Paradise has more red in it.

The texture feels soft like silk, and it’s one of the denser, creamier blushes I’ve come by from NARS (and this seems consistent with their eyeshadows–the more shimmery ones tend to have the same buttery texture).  The color payoff can be sheer if you like, but it can be built up to more true-to-pan color, which makes it something that both paler and deeper complexions can use.  The sheen is noticeable but is just that, a sheen, rather than heavily shimmered.  It did not emphasize my pores or natural imperfections on my skin.  Luster lasted just over seven hours on my skin before I saw noticeable fading.

The Glossover

If you love glowy, tangerine-tinted cheeks, you'll like Luster. It's exactly as you'd expect: it adds a luster, glow, and warmth to cheeks. It doesn't have strong red undertones, so it may also work well on anyone who likes peach blushes.

Do all of their blushes have sex-related names? Orgasm, Deep throat etc.. It’s hard to tell people you’re wearing Deep Throat on your face

  2. I absolutely adore this blush. I’ve had it for about 6 weeks and usually find some way to work it into my makeup routine. I have a very dark skin tone so this blush gives me more of a glow that I can’t get enough of.

  3. Ria

Omg going to Sephora tomorrow and testing / buying this. I hope they have it there…

At 32, this is the first blush I’ve ever hit the pan on.

A NARS artist used it on me with a bold red lip, and I’ve been sold ever since. It’s my daily go-to and with my skin tone (medium? tan? beige?) it gives the ideal, subtle glow.

Tried it on my blush-averse, pink-tinged bff for a wedding this weekend and the look of panic in her eyes vanished completely as it settled in.

    Can’t recommend it enough!

  5. fabiola

Mac margin is a lot like it.

  6. Elizabeth

Just bought this! It’s so ‘sheeny’, and works great with bronzer for a summer look. It looks really pretty on you Christine!

  7. Melissa

Wow, what a lovely new color! I wonder if this will be a bit like Taj Mahal for us lighter-skinned folk who can’t pull off an orange that bright and intense? What do you think, Christine? I’ve lusted after Taj Mahal for a while but every time I swatch it, it makes me look ridiculous. Is this more like Taj Mahal’s tamer cousin?

    • Kind of! It’s similar, but it has a lot less red in it. I would say if you feel like Taj Mahal is too much, Luster might satisfy that urge for something orange. Luster has a stronger sheen as well.

  8. Lovely shade, but I’m not crazy about the shimmer in it.

  9. katybec

That looks gorgeous on you! It really looks great with your whole look today :)

  10. M

It looks lovely on you, Christine!
How similar is it to MAC’s Margin? Because I already have (and love) it.

  11. Wow, just beautiful. I wish I had splurged and gotten the Nordstrom Joie de Vivre palette!

  12. Ami

Sorry to so blatantly suck up, but I HAVE to say, that is just gorgeous on you. Wow.

I often forget about this blush and then, when I put it on, it’s like “Why don’t I wear this more often?” On my NC 25-30 olive skin, it almost gives a subtle highlighter effect unless I REALLY build it up. (And, thankfully, it doesn’t show up as orange on me.) I like that ease of use but it’s probably why I sometimes forget about Luster. If I just use 2 brush strokes, the sheen isn’t obvious at all, even when I use a full blush brush as opposed to a stippling brush, so it kinda just gives me a natural glow. Like, “my skin but better.” The first time I wore it, my sister asked me what foundation I was using because my skin looked really good. LOL.

  14. I cannot wear tangerine, but recently grabbed NARS Madly which translates a little bit like this on my skin without being too orange for me.

  15. Farida

This looks gorgeous on you! I have this and I love it too.

  16. Helen

If I can only wear on blush for the rest of live, this would be it! It looks pinker on me than it was on yours though, Christine.

  17. Pretty on you, but (as always) too shimmery for me :/

  18. Marlin

What I want to know is, what’s on your eyes and lips! I love the whole look, I have similar coloring to you and love it :)

    • On eyes: Giorgio Armani #24 Eyes to Kill Intense Eyeshadow, Burberry Golden Trench Eyeshadow, Burberry Trench Eyeshadow, Urban Decay Baked Eyeliner. On lips: Dior Charnelle.

  19. Cicely

How similar is this to MAC Springsheen?

  20. t_zwiggy

One of my favorite NARS blushes! I often reach for this when I want a really natural blush, but need something that’s a bit on the warmer side.

Luster was my third NARS blush. I had to get this one after I saw MakeupByRenRen wear it in a YT video. I actually passed on it in store because I thought it looked kinda blah/nothing special; I just didn’t think it looked like something that would be flattering on me. I came across MBRR’s vid a few weeks after I looked at it in store; the moment her vid started, I needed to know what blush she was wearing because it just looked so warm and glowy. This is definitely a top favorite blush for me – I can’t get enough of the sheen! It’s interesting how orange your swatch of this looks because I never think it looks this orange when I swatch or wear it, lol. I think this shade is pretty dimensional because I can see peach/tangerine, golden/bronze/brown/burnt, and the tiniest hint of pink/red in certain lights. It’s a very autumnal shade to me. LOVE this blush – It’s definitely one of NARS’ better blushes.

  22. You’ve sold me that I need this blush! It’s pretty on you.

  23. JC

Ohhh, Luster. I love all NARS cheek products. =)

  24. I love these sort of tones… I guess I’m always drawn to the gold/bronze/orange family. I think it could be so pretty as an eyeshadow too. It looks beautiful on you!

  25. This is so pretty, but still looks natural! I might have to pick this up!

  26. blueraccoon

I got this in the Joie de Vivre palette from Nordstrom’s – I love it, and I can’t usually wear oranges but this looks good on me, somehow. Well, it did when I swatched it but I haven’t tried to wear it out yet! On me I feel like it pulls a bit more brown, less orange.

  27. Pamela

This doesn’t look like it would show on NC42 skin…or would it?

  28. Me and my pasty self will probably give this a try. I’ve been searching for the perfect mini splurge.

Oh my, this is lovely. I alway feel more attracted by pink blushes however I find that orange-y blushes suit me better. I love how it looks on you but I would never look at it twice if I saw it on display.

  31. Alisa

I love this blush, its one I have had my eye on for a while now I think I just may have to take the plunge and get it because it looks stunning on you Christine :)

  32. Megan

Your eyes look ridiculously pretty here, and that blush really suits you well.

  33. Lily Kelley

Just go it today thanks to your review. LOVE it!

  34. I just bought this based on your review. I love peachy / apricot blushes, I actually think they look more natural than pink ones

  35. Melissa

ohhh just when i had convinced myself that i already had too many blushes, you come out with these gorgeous swatches!!!! haha must pick up now

  36. Alisha

Love luster I have dark skin and it suits me very well. Amazing to use with smoky eyes.

  37. Brjsmom

Omg….I have this color from the nordstrom anniversary pallatte and never thought of putting it on, until I read your review. Christine, you are a genious. I’ve been struggling to find a blush that doesn’t bring out the red in my skin. I’m a nw30 with VERY red skin. When I saw this color in the pallatte it looked blah but at your suggestion that it would work well with not bringing out the red in skin I gave it a try. Can’t believe it’s been sitting here for 2 months and I never tried it. My new favorite blush!!!!!

  38. Clare

How would you say it compares to Mac Warm Soul Minerlize blush? And which one do you prefer? xxx

  39. Mila

Love your reviews! I have one question though: How similar is this blush to Nars Gina? Thanks!

  40. Leonie

How similar is this to MAC Trace Gold? I like Lustre really much but I don’t know if I need it if I have Trace Gold?

  41. Kristine C.

Hi! I don’t own any NARS blushes, but I’m planning on buying myself Albatross+another blush for my birthday soon. I’ve been looking at Luster, Orgasm, or Sin… I have almost the exact same skintone as you, maybe a touch darker, and I’m buying the blush as an everyday kind of thing for school. What would you suggest? Btw you are soooo pretty! And I’m obsessed with temptalia. I seriously don’t buy like, anything without checking out your review on here first. Thanks! :)
