NARS Flair Sheer Lipstick
NARS Flair Sheer Lipstick

NARS Flair Sheer Lipstick ($26.00 for 0.12 oz.) is described as a “sheer burnished berry.” It’s a medium-dark, berry-red with neutral-to-cool undertones. (On me, those generally translate slightly warmer.) Too Faced Pink Chocolate (P, $21.00) is creamier, warmer. Laura Mercier Cozy (P, $24.00) is warmer. MAC Candy Apple (LE, $17.00) is slightly pinker/cooler-toned. Chanel Ce Soir (P, $34.00) is more muted, lighter. See comparison swatches. (You can see it on The Dupe List here!)

The Sheer Lipstick formula is supposed to have “sheer, long lasting color pigments” with “sophisticated shine.” Flair lasted five hours on me, and it was lightly hydrating and comfortable to wear. It looks almost like a stain, because of the level of pigment, slight glossiness, and darker coloring. It does settle into lip lines slightly, but I didn’t have any issues with the color feathering over time. Though described as sheer, it’s more like semi-sheer to semi-opaque–which is something I’ve seen with the majority of NARS’ Sheer Lipstick range. I didn’t notice any scent or taste.

  1. OMG I love this shade. I have a NARS counter about 2 hours away from me, I may have to go and hope they have it!

  2. Looks much prettier, especially on you, than I thought it would look from the description!

I know it’ s not even on the same spectrum but how do you think this is in texture/formula and coloring versus NAR’S scarlet empress? I’m a big fan of SE but it’s so drying. This looks like a fall version of SE, whereas SE would be more suitable for winter time? Thoughts Christine?

    • Scarlet Empress seems more like it is truly cool-toned, so there’s that. The texture will definitely be more emollient (and as a result, a little shiny/glossy, but it’s not super glossy) with Flair, but it’s only lightly hydrating. I know some people find all of NARS’ lipsticks on the drying side, too (including the Sheer formula), so I don’t know if for sure it’ll fix the drying issue for you!

  4. Oooh it looks so much lighter than I thought it would be! And to be clear, that’s a good thing :-) I really like it.

  5. I have a huge soft spot for sheer lipsticks that are so effortless looking! This one looks so natural on you :-)

  8. Wow this shade looks gorgeous on the lips! I actually think this looks like a just bitten type of look but very natural and could be worn everyday! I wish it wasn’t so expensive or I would love to give it a try!

  9. NARS’ sheer lipsticks are one of my favorite formulas out there, but this shade isn’t for me. I hope more colors get added in the sheer formula in the future, because I truly love it to death.

    • Do you find them sheer-sheer or more pigmented, Audrey?

      • I actually find them quite pigmented. They’re not fully opaque like the pink Kat Von D pink color you just reviewed, but I do get a lot of color out of them and have to take it easy on a few. I actually was just looking at your swatches of the shade Damage, and I was shocked how sheer your swatches looked. I’m wondering if you got a dud because mine packs a much greater punch. Damage is my favorite out of the line (I am obsessed with sheer, grapey colors), and I love Flamenco as well.

(Also, they could just show up on me a lot more because I’m a lot fairer skinned than you, lol.)

        • Good to hear it – that is what I have found, too – that in general they are not at all sheer! Your natural lip color might be lighter/darker/brighter than mine and making it appear more pigmented as well!

This is so pretty I had to order it yesterday from Sephora…along with a few other things. Thanks for the enabling:)

Your skin looks flawless here Chrstine! Are you using foundation here and if so, which one? I can’t seem to see the ‘Makeup Look’ section that I usually find in your posts! =( (Sometimes this happens to me – not sure why – I’ve even tried refreshing a few times!)

    • Hi Josie!

It’s not always in every post, so that’s probably why!

  12. i really like this type of formula on days when i can’t always go into a bathroom or use any mirror to reapply lip products.
