It pains me beyond belief to say this but I don’t like 85% of this. *sob* The only thing that really draws my attention is the silver highlighter but that depends on the review and how it would look on my olive skin. The silver nail varnish looks fabulous *but* it also looks a hell of a lot like my NARS’ Space Odyssey silver. To the extent that it’s not, it’s still a dupeable colour. The pink one, Candy Darling, looks interesting but, again, potentially dupeable. And plus, Schiap may be prettier on my skin tone. So, almost all of those come down to the reviews and swatches. The rest, especially those eye palettes, no. I’m really disappointed.

:((( I know how much you were looking forward to this collection, too. That’s got to be so disappointing, to not like the offerings. I’m not seeing much in here I like, either, with the exception of the Kiss gift set in the other post, and I’m not sure I want to buy it.

I’m not feeling these palettes where there are no dividers between the colors and they’re simply meant to look pretty with their pictures. Too much of two of those palettes are made of of just black eye shadow anyway. Nothing new or exciting about black eye shadow.

I’m also not into having to buy these as sets.

This collection is such a “No!”.

  3. Kim-Mary

I’m quite disappointed in these. I had such high hopes. I may still purchase something since I like to collect makeup, but… hoping Mac’s Marilyn Monroe collection will be way better. Plus, Nars is so f’ing expensive.

  4. Stephanie

I adore the work of Warhol, and I’m particularly feeling that eyeshadow duo, just a bit bummed though that it appears that it won’t have his name on the front of the packaging

  5. Judy

I’m only interested in the self portrait shadow. The one with the periwinkle in it. The other stuff is just bleh to me. Was hoping for more lippies & blushes.

  6. I hate to say this, but seriously this collection is soooo mediocre. I have voiced my opinions before on palettes with multiple colours without dividers. I can’t buy one and use it..just can’t. But that’s my own issue. However, it isn’t just that. The actual colour combos are routine and *cough* boring!!! Even the trio is boring. I’m not feeling this collection it at all.

I want the edie set. I’m relieved that there is nothing else I really want (unless the shadows trio gets a good review)

  8. Bobbie

Seemslike most of the comments are negative…. but I think this looks awesome! I love Andy Warhol – would be awesome to see his face in the morning in my makeup!

  9. Megan

    That trio looks awesome!!

  10. Quinctia

The concept of those portrait palettes is cool, the piece is nice to look at, but I doubt anyone has any practical use for an eyeshadow palette that’s like 60% black.

(Granted, I have a hard time finding a use for black eyeshadow at all. Dark or blackened colors tend to be more useful for me.)

I wanted to try the Silver Factory Multiple but it seems like it’s only available in the big set, which has too many other things I don’t need. I keep looking through the collection but nothing’s really grabbing me. NARS has done way more interesting holiday items in the past.

  12. Alison

Umm..I would really like to like this as I love this kind of fun palette but unfortunately I don’t wear black or dark brown eyeshadow so all of the self-portrait trio eyeshadows would be somewhat wasted on me! I’m not really too keen on any of the sets either. I’ll be giving this collection a miss and hoping that something in some of the other upcoming NARS collections will tickle my fancy instead.

  13. I love Self Portraits but I keep thinking the quality of the product might fail because they need to make the pressed pigment harder in texture to create the shade.

    • Stippled

I am confused as to why having a pigment in a harder pressed texture would assist in shading? In my experience the more suede-like, supple and concentrated a pigment with the least binding agent necessary to allow it to stick to itself, the better any pigment is at blending. Hardness has nothing to do with it, outside of being a detriment to blending.

  14. Katie

I am the only one surprised that the NARS “Nico” blush wasn’t incorporated into any of this?

  15. Audrey

I want the silver factory gift set, but oh my god, expensive… haha

The only thing that interested me about these collections was the Deep Throat/Amour blush duo, but I found something interesting that it would be nice to compare with others. I was debating whether to buy the full-size Amour so I swatched it on my skin. It looked very different from the Amour in the duo so I swatched that next to it. Quite different! The duo version was a lot pinker than the full size, which was a very coral shade. I liked the duo, but didn’t like the full size. Was this specific to the samples at this counter or is it a known issue/new version? I’m in Japan and the staff just acknowledged the difference without being able to offer an explanation. Any other experiences of this?
