MAC COSMETIC’S PLUSHLASH MASCARA ($11.00)

A mascara formulated to instantly plump up lashes for extreme voluptuous effect. Works fast. Builds volume smoothly and evenly from root to tip. Delivers a silky, flexible, full fan of lashes. Fluid formula lightly coats lashes one layer at a time without smearing, smudging or clumping. Goes on via an innovative, specially patented wand with a v-shaped groove that prunes the bristles on one side while leaving the other side full and lush. The short bristles coax the lashes upward to an extraordinarily sophisticated yet flirtatious curl, while the other side separates and combs the lashes root-to-tip creating a long, well-defined glamour lash. Volumizing, lengthening, curling, lifting. This mascara features everything you want, with all the top mascara no’s: no clumping, spiking, smudging or flaking.

  • Applicator: Medium-sized length, but fairly thick and dense brush.
  • Clumping: No real clumping even after three full coats – just a touch, but nothing unexpected after going for the gusto with coats.
  • Curl: It actually provides a minimal, natural curl — the curl shown here is courtesy of a lash curler, but the mascara lends a touch of curl for lazy days.
  • Ease: Compared to a lot of mascaras I’ve tested, not nearly as easy. It does take some getting used to, because one side of the brush is sort of flat, while the other one isn’t. After a few applications, you should be able to get the hang of it, though!
  • Length: Lovely length; long, luscious lashes that looked glorious!
  • Thickening: Thicker is definitely better, and this mascara gets a thumbs up for giving me gorgeous, thick lashes.
  • Volume: Oh, can you believe it? Length, thickening, and volume! Yes, it’s true; Plushlash surely pumps up the density, giving me a great full set of lashes.
  • Best: I really love Plushlash because I feel like it delivers on all the points it says it should. I get amazing length, ultra thick, voluminous lashes. It holds a curl, and it never flakes. What’s even better? It’s only $11! I know some drugstore mascaras retail for $8 or so. I also love that you can keep piling on the coats without worrying too much about clumping.
  • Worst: None, honest. The brush might require some practice to get the right results you want, but I swear it isn’t so complicated that you won’t get it.

Check out one more shot of the LENGTHENING POWER! that is Plushlash!

I LOVE Plushlash. I use a coat of MAC lash primer and a coat or two of the Plushlash and my lashes look fantastic. (NOTE: My lashes are naturally NOT fantastic at all!) Yay MAC!

  2. Tekoa

Goodness, that’s some length! I love these mascara reviews you do. Mascara is one product that you can’t totally trust the product discription. How exactly does one use the Plushlash brush?

    • Quite so! It’s one of my favorite mascaras I’ve tried. Could you believe DiorShow flaked on me? :(

I honestly just wiggle it around and coat my lashes, and it seems to do the trick, lol.

OMG. Your lashes look wonderful! I am definetly going to buy this mascara. The price is definetly right. I can’t wait to try it out.

  4. Vera

This is probably going to be a silly question, but what counts as one coat of mascara? Plushlash looks to be one of the better mascaras you’ve tried. I love the length and thickness. =D

    • I usually wiggle the brush around a bit, try to get all the lashes, and then I go to the other eye. That would be one coat. Then after doing the other eye, I go back to the original eye, do it again… another coat.

  5. This has most likely become my HG mascara! I’m pretty much always buying mascaras (drugstore & highend) in hopes of finding the perfect mascara. I truly love Benefit’s Badgal Lash, but after using Plushlash (for $8 less!), I’ve found it provides equally if not more beautiful lashes than Badgal… in EVERY area I need it – volume, length, thickness, curl, NO clumping or flaking. I’ve even bought TWO backups just to have at home (I know this is a perm item, but I tend to run out of my essentials quite often without realizing I don’t have any back stock). So yes, love love LOVE this mascara. Its the only MAC mascara I’ve squealed about EVER, that’s for damn sure! And I must say, based on these photos, it definitely does wonders for YOUR lashes as well :)

    • Wow! I’m so happy to hear others are lovin’ Plushlash, too! Now, I’m not so keen on Brownette, but I adore Plushblack.

I liked Zoom Lash a bit, too :)

  6. I just picked a tube up last night! I absolutely love it. I didn’t think I would because I haven’t heard that much about MAC’s mascaras, but I was practically floored when I saw this on my friend’s lashes. And it has a softer, non-crunchy texture, unlike my previous mascara, which was CG’s VolumeExact. But I need to get the hang of the application. It looks gorgeous on you!

    • Awesome, Stefanie! I’m glad you’re finding good results, too! This is an amazing MAC mascara. I always liked ZoomLash, but Plushlash out does itself.

i honestly used to hate mac mascaras. and to think most of mac products are fantastic, their mascaras were horrible. plushlash is sooo wonderful. i loooove it. once i tried it, the first thing on my mind was,’oh you finally got it MAC’. the price IS great compared to benefit’s a i love the badgal lash, it’s just a bit too pricey for a mascara. i heard the CG’s mascara in the orange tube is as good as plushlash but i’m a mac girl.

    • A lot of people seem to have hated them, but Plushlash is awesome. I also liked ZoomLash, in the past, as well!

Haven’t tried Lash Blast (couldn’t find it) myself.

Wow out of all the mascara reviews the after pic of this has the most stunning results! I’ve been really curious bout MAC’s mascaras but was a little hesitant to buy coz a MAC MA mentioned to me before that he personally doesn’t like MAC’s line of mascaras. But this is a new product and looks great on the pic….maybe this could be the mascara I’ve been searching for a long time lol.

    • I know, right? I adore MAC as much as any addict does, but I was really impressed with this mascara!!

Plushlash is a way for all MAC-mascara-haters to come around. I liked ZoomLash, though, before Plushlash came out – didn’t find it particularly awful or anything.

I am so sad. I reaaaly wanted this to work on me. I had the MA try it on me and after she curled my lashes and put it on, my lashes just lost its curl. =( I’m glad I had her try it on me before I bought it. She actually recommended a non mac brand to me, ha ha. If you’d ever like to do a review on it, it is Maybelline Volum’ Express Turbo Boost® Waterproof =) I love your reviews.

    • Really? It holds a curl on me no problem!

I just tried it – not waterproof, but normal – and I don’t get so great results. Less length, and it did flake a touch on me. :( (Full review is forthcoming!)

  10. Holy moly! Your lashes look amazing! Gotta go check it out this weekend :)

  11. Tanya

wow plushlash does truly look amazing on you. So I bought it a few weeks ago and tried it, my problem was that I couldnt get it to seperate my lashes and I ended up with some serious uni-lashes…even with a make-up lash brush thingy I couldnt get them to seperate. So I returned it :( Which really bummed me out because the alternative doesn’t make my lashes look all that full or lush. Any idea or suggestion for what might have been the issue?

    • That is so odd! I can’t imagine what the issue was unless perhaps you had too much mascara stuck in the bristles (on occasion I’ll gently remove some of it with a makeup remover, if I feel it’s getting clumpy on the wand). It sucks it didn’t work out for you :(

Do you use a metal lash comb? I find those work way better than plastic ones, too. Lots of wigglign with the wand when applying kept mine pretty separated.

      • Tanya

I have a plastic comb, I will look into getting a metal one…though I don’t think I have ever seen one before…not that I was looking. Thanks for the suggestions I might give it another try when I run out of Longlash.

try fiberwig. i got it from sephora. its my daytime go to.

nighttime i do like 2 coats of diorshow <33

  13. Jaine

Thanks for the review. :) I’ve been considering getting this mascara but usually I go for waterproof formulas. I know that this isn’t advertised as waterproof but how do you think it holds up against water in general? Sorry for the random question, haha.

I tried this mascara yesterday and it didn’t hold the curl. :(
    I’m so sad

This made me feel better about purchasing it :)
